literally, if there's a flat surface in our home then there's a stack of books on it. not even counting the nooks, crannies, and secret cabinets holding books. i figure we have about 6 yrs before we hafta toss out dishes & put books in the cupboards. then in the microwave. then atop/in the fridge.

the black experience in america: realizing racists are on the way to cause you great bodily harm and yet you still gon grab a handful of butterscotch candies out the candy jar as you start fleeing for your life.

altho there's a long tradition of black folk with fish atop their heads, my doodle was actually inspired by the man with a small child atop his.

*❤️ me & old faithful, back together again for the next 7 months ❤️* if there's a photo of me online over the past decade then there's a 70% chance im wearing this hoodie. i posted a doodle on IG in 2016 and a friend in louisville had it made into a bunch of shirts. been inseparable ever since. 😊

BAS-RELIEF 6

let me condemn heaven
to hold you & tho im not one
to unusually risk eternal hell
i beg for no guarantee:
gift me whatever’s frivolous
or most infinitesimal
that i may win you and not waste ruin,
left abandoned under lamplight
trading rhymes with the eternal.
let us softly render bodies
until all of us is less than marrow
then ply our mortal gels with
roaring lyric until we sleep,
prying fires from the flux.

#twopageplustuesday The Witch’s Titty Has A Cold Nipple (& Still I Choose To Suckle) Blues
The Witch’s Titty Has A Cold Nipple (& Still I Choose To Suckle) Blues

ornithology filled the moon
on the night that i was born
said Charlie Parker was my God
on the night Mama spat me out
- i’m an innercity
auspex reading half-eaten
chicken wings in the gutters of a curb.
said: i was an astrological concierge
catchin’ trains and jumpin tracks
where a Nigga’s soul is dark alluvium
at the bottom of his words
i was raised on Witch’s Titty
and i suckled all the sauces, swallowed
African Sorcery’s every ounce

said: i said some fancy magic shit,
skippin’ stars like stones
across your senses; reckless eyes a’rollin’
your 2 tongues just a-click-clackin’

listen,
i was raised high on salience
lips braised (until bruised) on The Holy Breasts
of Mother Ma’at; Joseph’s Mary rolled me in her womb,
until Jesus, jealous, spat into my bourbon & yelled
it’s time i met my maker
— HA!
but on death-threats i slept.

said: my somnifacience
oscillates like owl-shit on a shoulder-blade,
what a beauty mark to behold
but i’m not the kind of blue
to suppress hexes out of hue
and like any Shining Black X, it isnt
something to make me lose confidence
in what i’m doing. you see,
Auset is such a songstress
her teeth crusted in diamonds and kohl,
she’s been my waitress many years;
keeps her stockings full of switchblade,
has my back where i am blind.
i’m grand sommelier of all the shadows
& my Wadjet always watches.
said: croon me and i surface;
huff and puff and i appear.
Brother Khepra keeps all my secrets;
Albert Ayler tracks the score.

this looks similar to the proposed designsfor a mixed-use collection of buildings proposed in louisville back in the 90s before we turned chickenshit & more conservative. it was to be "chair-like" with 4 separate buildings as "legs" & a vertical "seat" connecting them that wouldve housed a MoMA +
“De Rotterdam” (2009-13) Mixed Use Towers in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, designed by Rem Koolhaas, Reinier de Graaf and Ellen van Loon (Office for Metropolitan Architecture).

the photo is of 4 or so office towers that kind of resemble larger rectangles placed vicariously atop other smaller rectangles.

Daniel Naawenkangua Abukuri I Want Diane Seuss to Teach Me How to Become a Man congratulations: Daniel's collection, Son in a Wild God’s Arms, has been picked up by University Press of Kentucky.
I Want Diane Seuss to Teach Me How to Become a Man

after Diane Seuss’s “Romantic Poet”

by Daniel Naawenkangua Abukuri

I cherish the boys who cry in parking lots, who lean against dented Hondas
holding their faces. I love the boys who apologize to stray cats after scaring
them away. The ones who carry flowers badly, stems bent in their sweating
fists. But mostly, let’s be honest, I like Diane Seuss for the way she makes
ruin sit down beside beauty without either one pretending. Ostensibly,
becoming a man is less about hardening and more about surviving softness.
Don’t laugh. I grew up believing manhood was a locked jaw, a fist through
drywall, a silence thick as wet cement. But Diane Seuss writes men like
weathered barns still standing after years of snow and bad harvest. She
lets them ache openly. Lets them fail magnificently. Lets them drink
coffee at midnight while admitting they are lonely. And inside my own
body, under the borrowed swagger, under the deep voice I practice on
buses, there is a small frightened animal wanting permission to stay gentle.

ive heard of killing joke but couldnt name a member... im a little more familiar now:
When asked about his perspective on the United States in a May 2013 interview, Coleman explained:

"It's different from 30 years ago. There's no rebellion left. Everyone is just a passive zombie. Food supply has something to do with it – it's dumbed down everyone to obese, lethargic corpses ... People are worn down ... It's a fragmented society. People have access now to amazing amounts of information, but their attention spans are getting shorter, their focus is gone. Instant gratification. Instant knowledge orgasm! I think that a lot of the great thinkers couldn't achieve what they did through a computer."

amit majmudar VOCATIVE
VOCATIVE

English is my native anguish.
I was born here, read here, teased and torn here,

Vocative, ablative,
locative, alive: English was a dislocation navigating oceans, Wherever it arrived,
it broke and brokered words.

its little bits of Britain pilfered, bartered, written, looted, hoarded, heard.

Papa swapped a world for shiny colored beads, for dandelion seeds. We are subject verbs.

The root word of my name hooks a foreign land, long-since-shifted sand books cannot reclaim.

Graft of tongue, gift of dust, mother and stranger, sing the kedgeree, the everything at once you've made of us.

roger robinson DAY MOON
DAY MOON For Black Men's Walking group who walk the Yorkshire Dales

It beckons, this spirit-filled mist ike some earthly firmament; this quilted sage and moss expanse can blank out a racist boss: its trails will heal our trials and rage
We hear the cadence of our breaths and squelched percussion of our boots, walking beneath these branches bent into regal arches; talking till we soothe our too-full minds, we walk for miles
Next week we'll see the heathers bloom Like us, some may forget they thrive until, watched by this full-day moon, ike ancient rocks lying where they please, we're couched by this soft earth and these dry weeds

upfromsumdirt’s TALES TO ADMONISH — weekend edition

as if écriture féminine or else
écriture from a black legume
this morsel of word a metaphor for personal meaning
without the season of deciduous white befalling
allow me to appall ourselves — self-befelled / a cauling / a compelling:
the tongue overblackened with bounteous life
ah́ọn - yoruba
lam - wolof
íré - igbo
uliki - swahili

ah́ọnology?
ah́ọníré?
(ahọ́n + íré… but that’s “tongue tongue” & that’s silly)

allow me to write a biangular reapproach —

andika - again, swahili
or kuandika?

the corpse reaching back, poaches its own ghost
but what’s the african american mouth
if not already an amalgam of africa?

transatlantic blvkc triangular:
kuandah́ọníré?
kuandahọ́níré | kwand-ahūn-ē-ray | noun
in black fractal surrealism, to write the double tongue
see: codespeak
see: self-interiority, self-divine; a liberation
that licenses itself
see: what the black mama sees without the weight of mama
see: stay your lane; mind your business
see: négritude for post-panafricanism
black theory devoid of interloping white weariness
each Handbook… every Manifesto… made Goal/Mine

Ọlọrun allows us here for this exact thesis.

charles wright
ARCHAEOLOGY

The older we get, the deeper we dig into our childhoods, Hoping to find the radiant cell
That washed us, and caused our lives to glow in the dark like clock hands
Endlessly turning toward the future,
Tomorrow, day after tomorrow, the day after that, all golden, all in good time.

Hiwassee Dam, North Carolina

Still 1942,
Still campfire smoke in both our eyes, my brother and I
Gaze far out at the lake in sunflame
Expecting our father at any moment, like Charon, to appear
Back out of the light from the other side,
low-gunwaled and loaded down with our slippery dreams.

Other incidents flicker like foxfire in the black
Isolate distance of memory,
cross-eyed,
horizon-haired.

Which one, is it one, is it any one that cleans us, clears us,
That relimbs our lives to a shining?

One month without rain, two months third month of the new year, Afternoon breeze-rustle dry in the dry needles of hemlock and pine.
I can't get down deep enough.
Sunlight flaps its enormous wings and lifts off from the back yard,
The wind rattles its raw throat, but I still can't go deep enough.
