Esta solicitud de propuestas pone en el centro la relevancia de los desarrollos de la IA en la ética animal, partiendo de que puede favorecer al incremento o a la reducción del sufrimiento de animales en la naturaleza o cautividad.

SOLICITUD DE PROPUESTAS

En las sociedades contemporáneas existe un debate acerca de si las fronteras de la consideración moral deben extenderse para cubrir únicamente a los seres humanos o han de incluir también a los demás animales dotados de sintiencia, que pueden ser sujetos de un bienestar o malestar. Este es el objeto de la ética animal. Los actuales desarrollos en IA son muy relevantes en este ámbito, pues pueden favorecer que en el futuro los animales (salvajes o en cautividad) sufran daños que pueden ser muy notables, o bien contribuir a que estos se reduzcan.

Junto a esto, en años recientes ha aumentado el interés sobre la cuestión de si algunos sistemas de IA podrían cumplir los requisitos para su consideración moral. Una de las formas en la que esto se ha sometido a debate es planteando que tal vez podrían en algún momento poseer estados mentales (como cabe sostener desde teorías de la consciencia como el funcionalismo computacional).
