Rain continues to pour upon the waterside as Masek attempts to get Minnow, a Waterwoman of the sea in a freshwater zone, to help him get back to the island where his family is waiting. He hands over some Beadman's biscuits and she opens it up to dig into the snackrifice of delicious crispy dryfoods. Can't take em underwater! "If the guard aren't returning we won't be resupplied. What-- what will my family DO if the stormfolk don't stop?" he pleads with her. The weather is caused by the senet beasts having a fit over... something.

"Mm, you worry about getting Nanna well Rivergod Minnow will figure something out if that dead wright isn't going to help." She chews it over while she chews on some snacks. "Maybe helping those soldiers-- awh, Masek, these aren't fish shaped! You KNOW I like fish best!"

"I-it's all the same flavor! Only the shapes change!" the mid-aged Inak pleads with her like a parent with a child but she taps on the cute cuddlefish shape insistently.

"FISH SHAPE TASTES BEST! It is my sacred law! Are you a spiderpaw? Must I WRITE IT DOWN?" she teases him.

A large view of Sharteshane City. the capital of the country. A muggy, rainy day where most of the visible people walking also do not appear to have shoes as they walk through dirty or unpaved roads. The most colorful part of the scene is the Crescian carriage that is passing through. This is what everyone feels the latest stage of capitalism would be, and it is! But you still have to deal with a shiftless king that is addicted to pymary powered board games. It's no wonder that everyone is trying their hardest to hustle and has no time for feeling like anyone else deserves a handout. To make it here is to step on several other, often younger, hands and heads. It's hard to tell if the overcast is just the weather or the massive smog castoff from the buildings of the industrialist Beadman, who seems to monopolize everything like a slimier Acme Co. A blue-garbed Crescian guard watches vigilantly from the back of the carriage for any parasites attaching, staff in hand.

Having gotten got by Bastion, Darkest Paul declares loudly at the top of a small balcony with poor OSHA safety: "By the smoking lines I DESTEST Bastion Winalils!" If you got sassed by a man who teleports completely nude, you'd probably be just as mad. Most of the adults and children busy at work below don't even turn their heads.

"No luck? We MUST have Delicieu's map of the soul from him! Roger Foi-Hellick's soul hangs vivisected around us, but with no map it will take YEARS to find what we need." Hanging from the walls were massive pages of paper, most the width of man and of even taller height. The proclaimed 'soul' in paper form of a man cursed to be hated. The lines don't all go across and have a fine print, which makes the reading alone a task, let alone finding. In the center of the room is a large, dark metal machine with several tubes and pipes, but what stands out the most is the silver table connected to it with several straps with what to hold someone down...

Sette waltzes in on Jivi and Matty, chuffed. "Y'see that? SCADS of dosh only for sellin' the SAME BOOKS a THIRD TIME! How puddin'-brained can one crowda suckers be? Alla them sweatin' t'touch me feet s'what it is."
Disgusted, Jivi answers: "They're NOT the same books again, thiefbaby. They're ALL NEW. That's why it's been such a ZOO around here gettin' 'em done!"
Sette's gorge rises. "Wha? We ain't sellin' the same books over again, over again?"
"Ya gotta give 'em the next part of the story!" Jivi replies before he's cut off by Sette's arm around his throat and her fingers up his nose.
"What d'we do when we run outta STORY?" she fumes, "None want endings! Nor a DESTINATION! They wanna ruminate in circles 'til the BOAT SINKS! You're bankruptin' this enterprise, REGIVI!"
Regivi swings her around by the tail, and sputters: "BABY-EATIN' CAPITALIST VAMPIRE!"
Matty the Wise swivels his hat backwards. We can see he's expertly written "THANK YOU" across it.

Shanked by a villain, Duane lay on the rocks in the Khert, comforted by squishes, who use their little tentacles to help him get his goopy back where it belongs. It's certainly not blood as images is Sette sitting glumly and of his daughter reflect in the large drops. One in the middle calls out to him. "Duane!" And he jolts upright.

"Coming!" he calls back in acknowledgement, his hands gripping tightly to his chest to aid the squishes in getting that all back in there. Drips of the khert and the ghosts drift in and out of the panels in an incredibly tweening of the frames and borders.

Trying to teach Matty to read in the hopes that he might be able to cast, the girls arrange themselves as letters and have him sound it out. "Ss-eh-tuh-yee?" Matty hums as he puts Chitz, his sight assisting plush, onto his hat brim. Jivi comments in humor that it's kind of a couch as Matty hums.

"It might be a two-toe!" 'It's two syllables! Ugh hurry, my arms are tired." "it rhymes with ready" "and spermaceti" chime the girls and Ruffles. "And asshole!" chimes in Quigley who is horrible with children.

Sette knows what it says and it's not how her damn name is spelled. "Iiiit's--" she pounces on Matty and tugs his ears, making Chitz fly off his hat as he yelps. "SETTE!" she yells. "SSS! EHH! TEE! SETTE!" That wasn't how her name was spelled either.

Quigley hefts his son onto his right knee to carry the boy up the stairs. When did he become too old to carry in his arms? A pink inak holds a spear up despite her friendly face. "Litrya Shrine? Yessir! But you'll know it as your own GORY TOMB!" It's not entirely clear if she means by the stormies or hunger if not the pointy bit. Jivi is more taken in by the shrine than the spear wielder. At either side of the entry way are two of the twin gods, the ladies. One of the shrine's girls, Sara, tries to boss around Sette, who couldn't care less and sticks her tongue out to show it. Another girl, Siya, stands at the top of the stairs and holds her sketchbook up like she's half-hiding behind it, not having expected the guests. The skulls that adorn the halls all are framed by softi flowers, blue long-petaled flowers with long yellow stamen, the symbol of Tirna, the reckless younger goddess.

"--they are making a report for you!" reminds Ruckmearhkha, speaking of the tests scientists were running on the plod they had captured. Queen Sonorie squeezes her eyes shut and purses her lips in want of dignity and control. "But Queen, I have come to you today fat with GRATITUDE." However, that makes her open her eyes wide with anger, her brows and frown furrowing her face as the efheby pats her upon the head like a child. Her! Who had 8 children and ran the country! Somehow she holds her tongue still.

"Thank you for finding my long sleeping place and calling me back to the world. I could have missed these... New Times."
A thought of the root wrapped form of the beast as she came upon it in that cave with two of her men comes back to the Queen. Never did she think that the golden twisted 'sleeping statue' was in fact alive, let alone that it did favors that provided burdens. A most cursed of mysterious benefactors, who claimed he loved her. But that would be hard for most audience to believe.

Matty, having asked a rude question about the sacrificial nature of twins in Cresce, gets an answer that Siya seems to have practiced over and over. "We're very special here. When we're 22 my sister will become a priestess and I'll go to the city. They'll sing: SIYA! SIYA! Everyone will know me. They'll be GRATEFUL for me! Then I'll drink a magic flower potion, and go live with the gods for all the rest of time. THAT is how you say it." As she receits the fate that awaits her she closes her eyes and imagines it, a crowd of people praying behind her as she walks through a field of Softi flowers, a plant that shares its symbolism with Tirna, the twin goddess. However Tirna used the plant to attempt to stop the creation of humans, and was banished to the mortal world of Yerta's belly because of it.

"Sorry, miss girl..." Matty honestly says as he follows with Jivi.

"S'all right, what's an aldish boy know about kept twins?" Says Sara rather than Siya, accepting it for her passively, "I can't BELIEEEEVE mistress Lori let you in!" Siya simply clutches her sketchbook tightly to her chest like she's made fragile peace with it.

As he prepares to give surgery Bastion is questioned by his patient. "If-- If you know how to fix my hear, Winalis, why don't you share it with EVERY wright? Isn't th-that how you black tongues work? Free knowledge for all?"

"This technique is no fix," he corrects him. "And it is no secret." He starts again with 'but the state doctor told me--" but Bastion just cuts Elan off as he dirties his fingertips with blood. "In your moneyless utopia, how do you value each other? By what you HAVE or what you DO? What have you done fro Cresce, Elan Aled?" He pulls the needle through again, a shadow accenting his jet black eyes. "What should it, in your need, do for you?" While the Aldish are very caste driven, they recognize the game of organizing the people in Cresce by value of worth. As every country looks at value a different way.
