Been wondering exactly how much my white cat understands me--not just movement/body language/tone of voice, but actual words. I work at home & don't go out a lot. Got a text wanting to let me know what my polling place is for the Dem primary in TX this coming week. The text did say I should verify the info, and guess what? it WAS WRONG. I was a little skeptical anyway (it's not a location I've ever seen as a polling place)--good thing I checked, right? 🤷‍♀️

Sittin' right here, right here in my own damn swamp... Austin's had one decent cool snap so far, but humidity is 98% today w/ temps headed into the 70s-80s by the weekend. I console myself by listening to Carolyn--& remembering Mar-a-Lardo is a LOT closer to sea level than Austin.

Just received The Library of Lost Maps, by James Cheshire... The book is lovely--fascinating maps and their stories, illustrated and bound beautifully. I'm smitten! 📖🫶 Some of the maps do require a good magnifying glass to see all of the detail with which they were printed... not that I mind...

Just found this 1944 New Yorker cover! Loved reading it when I was a kid (my dad had a subscription for decades) but this issue came out almost 20 years before Dad subscribed. I've never seen it before: D-Day retold as if in a new Bayeux tapestry -- but in reverse... also: OG Antifa lol

The bottom panel shows tanks in pursuit of the bad guys, who are fleeing. Along the top of this panel, it says, "BAYEUX * JUNE VII / SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS!"

The resemblance to the Bayeux tapestry is pronounced; although it's clearly a reference to what happened on D-Day (the boats bringing an invasion force, which then attacks the German army which has captured France. It also appears to be a bit of a joke at France's expense: the Allied troops having to invade Normandy to save the French (instead of vice versa) -- and fighting the Nazis at Bayeux, as noted in the bottom panel.
