What took place at LCOY Mexico 2025
To avoid a climate catastrophe, the world must transition to clean energy and progressively phase out fossil fuels. However, this transition will only be fair if it includes communities historically dependent on oil and guarantees sustainable alternatives for their economies, jobs, and energy security. In this context, Brenda Rodríguez Orea and Julián Martínez (NRGI) co-led the Just Transitions track at LCOY and facilitated a workshop to analyze how the oil legacy shapes the current and future challenges of producing regions, placing the voices of youth from these territories at the center. Rep. Ami Bera on Health Security | CommonHealth Live!
In this episode of the CommonHealth Live! series, J. Stephen Morrison will sit down with Representative Ami Bera (CA-06) to discuss the future of U.S. global health security strategy in an era of redefined alliances, geopolitical competition, and the rise of transformative but disruptive technologies such as AI. Please join the CSIS Bipartisan Alliance for Global Health Security on June 26 from 12:00-12:45 pm ET for the broadcast conversation. What is the future of global health assistance under the new structure created by the U.S. Health Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs)? How is this model reshaping the role of the State Department and the CDC in global health, and how is it playing out in the context of the unfolding Ebola outbreak? How durable is this compact model, and does it align with long-term strategies Congress is pursuing in other foreign assistance domains, including for critical minerals under the DOMINANCE Act? As the United States pursues a more robust industrial policy in the name of stronger national security, how can it maintain reasonable channels for cooperation with China in the highly interdependent bioeconomy? This event is made possible by the generous support of the Gates Foundation.  --------------------------------------------- A nonpartisan institution, CSIS is the top national security think tank in the world. Trump Officials Still Delaying Funds
For the second year in a row, Trump administration officials are delaying the distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars in health-related grant funding as political appointees seek to ensure the funding adheres to the administration’s priorities — despite promises to Congress that the money would be spent as directed. Meanwhile, four years after the Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion, nearly half the states have banned or substantially restricted the procedure. But while most voters say they support abortion rights — and majorities in several states have approved ballot measures to enshrine them — that sentiment has not translated into major gains for Democrats running for office. This week’s panelists are Julie Rovner of KFF Health News, Maya Goldman of Axios, Joanne Kenen of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Politico Magazine, and Rachana Pradhan of KFF Health News. 00:55 – HHS Grant Freeze Federal health grants delayed, OMB political review, and Congress vs. Trump administration over spending power. 06:50 – DEI Research Ban OMB’s proposed rules, AI flagging of “woke” terms, and the impact on diversity, equity, and inclusion research funding. 09:37 – Post-Roe Abortion Dobbs fallout, mail‑order abortion pills, misoprostol-only protocols, and why abortion politics aren’t matching election outcomes. 15:17 – Vaccine Trust Crisis CDC study suppression, peer-reviewed COVID vaccine data, “medical freedom,” and collapsing public trust in health agencies and mandates. 22:02 – Hospital Price Controls Indiana’s Medicare-linked hospital price caps, state-level drug import plans, and drug and obesity-treatment controversies. 31:52 - Extra Credit

Europe's China shock 2.0
In this episode of The Sound of Economics, Yuyun Zhan and Alicia García-Herrero invite Philippe Le Corre to examine the growing tensions at the heart of European Union-China relations. With China reporting a record $1.2 trillion trade surplus last year, European industries face intensifying competition across a far wider range of sectors than before, from chemicals and green tech to pharmaceuticals and, most visibly, the auto industry. They explore whether the EU's new trade instruments are up to the task, why member state fragmentation may be a bigger obstacle than Beijing itself and how the risk of Chinese retaliation constrains every move Brussels makes.
ENGLISH - Day 2 - APRM Youth Symposium: Youth in Governance: From Promise to Prosperity
The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), an institution of the African Union, is proud to convene the African Youth Symposium under the theme "Youth in Governance: From Promise to Prosperity." This symposium is a direct response to the urgent need to move beyond tokenistic inclusion and foster a culture of substantive agency. It is a call to action for every young African to embrace their role not as passive beneficiaries, but as active architects of the continent's governance landscape – across political, economic, and corporate spheres.

AI, demographics and China
In this episode of The Sound of Economics, host Rebecca Christie looks into the future with Bruegel’s emerging talents Maria Catarina Louro, Tillman Schenk and Théo Storella. Demographic change is coming for the world, as fewer new workers grow up to replace earlier generations of workers. China is at a crossroads of not only population decline but also industrial dominance, putting its economy in renewed competition with the United States and Europe. And artificial intelligence will change the workforce, the manufacturing base and the productivity outlook all over the world. How should current policymakers and thinkers shape the world that lasts beyond their lifetimes? How can the field of economics contribute?
