Congratulations to Norway’s new King Haakon VIII. We will always remember him as a true friend who celebrated South Sudan's independence with us in 2011. Wishing him & the Crown Princess of Norway the absolute best as they take on their new duties for the Norwegian people. Long may he reign.

It is a sad day for the Norwegian people and friends due to the passing of His Majesty King Harald V. He and his predecessor His Majesty King Olav V were dear friends to the people of South Sudan. We will never forget what they & the Norwegian People's Aid did for us. Rest well your Majesty 🕊️.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ambassador Linken emphasized Norway’s historical relations with the people of South Sudan and a shared struggle for freedom and democracy.

“For more than 50 years, Norway has had the honour of working closely with the people of South Sudan. A special bond of friendship exists between our two nations. We know your struggles; we have been with you through difficult times and will continue to support your efforts to restore peace and stability.”
“South Sudan is now at a crossroads and is in a critical phase of nation-building”, said Ambassador Linken.
