To help support this, Lilly wrote descriptions for each main character, then sourced images online to visualise what she felt the characters would look like. She then created these mood boards for each character.

There’s a lot to do with pre-production for a film, so it’s only right there’s a production office from which to work! Over the summer, the classroom at York Education and Media Hub was turned into a production office for Lilly to work on her film 'Turning 20 is Gross'.

Actors were asked to send a CV, showreel and a self-tape video about themselves, which were then reviewed by Lilly and her support team. Over 1000 people auditioned (!), so there were plenty of documents to read and videos to watch!

The first part of the process is to create a casting call, which is advertised on various platforms. In Lilly’s case, she advertised her casting call on acting websites such as Spotlight and Mandy.

Check out this video from our recent Coffee & Connect all-hands meeting, where our CEO Kate Terroni introduced us to Lloyd the Legend 🏃‍♂️ Lloyd is anathlete and marathon runner with Down syndrome, and is a Guinness World Record holder as the youngest person in his category to complete a marathon!

When I began planning out ideas for a short film, a key characteristic kept cropping up – childishness. I wanted to tell a story about a childish main character, with the message being to always hold your inner child close to you and never let them go’.
