finally found an actual use case for the slop image generator: turning my kid's drawings and blocks into photorealistic pictures! he's so excited, this is the platonic ideal of a five year old's imaginative playtime

then today Saylor finally mentioned the meltdown and I honestly could not believe what he said. instead of his usual bullshit about """diamond hands""" and HODL he suddenly sounded like an Enron executive circa 2002. "we will continue to execute with transparency "????? lolllll dude's cooked

as expected, now that the scammers have left crypto and moved into AI, the price has flatlined and Saylor has had to continually dilute MSTR to pay dividends... but even THAT part has begun to wobble. his STRC is pegged at $100 and 10% yield, but investors aren't willing to spend even $75 for it now
100
ian @union.io · 27/06/2026
anyway a couple years ago, at the very peak of the crypto bubble, he restructured MSTR into a bunch of "financial products", including like six new public stocks, that all promise huge dividends, funded by MSTR diluting its stock regularly. this makes sense if and only if bitcoin goes up forever.
100
ian @union.io · 27/06/2026
in case you were unaware, MSTR is cryptomaniac Michael Saylor's company that converted from middling tech stock to "bitcoin treasury" a few years back. he's been doubling down on it ever since with all the classic twitter memes that you'd expect from that kind of person.

this hit me pretty hard this morning. executing a long-running, MCP-calling LLM task via the lowest-tier VSCode Copilot took up like, idk, 1% of the monthly alotment? running a similar task directly via the OpenAI API cost like $0.75. and I'm not even confident the OpenAI API is running below cost!
The other AI bubble: What happens when we have to pay what AI actually** costs?

OpenAI, Google, et al are in a race for marketshare and are pricing AI input tokens well below the cost of production. It’s the standard VC tactic. The one we saw with rideshare apps.

But, as with Uber and Lyft, at some point these companies will be forced to try to turn a profit on this stuff.

When they are, what happens to all of the corporate customers that are injecting LLM queries into every dang part of their businesses?

I know this is very Old Man Yells at Cloud but can anyone tell me what the fuck's happening with Dodger ticket prices this year?? this is for a midweek early start game against the REDS. in previous seasons you'd only see $500 nosebleeds if there was a Hello Kitty bobblehead giveaway or whatever
screenshot of dodger stadium on stubhub. ticket prices outrageous, etc etc

hulk hogan's restaurant's racist dress code, essentially thirteen rules that just describe someone who's culturally non-white

absolutely in awe of the story of the first camel to reach australia
The first camel arrived in Australia in 1840, ordered from the Canary Islands by the Phillips brothers of Adelaide.[4] The Apolline, under Captain William Deane, docked at Port Adelaide in South Australia on 12 October 1840, but all but one of the camels died on the voyage. The surviving camel was named Harry.[5] This camel, Harry, was used for inland exploration by pastoralist and explorer John Ainsworth Horrocks on his ill-fated 1846 expedition into the arid South Australian interior near Lake Torrens, in searching for new agricultural land. He became known as the 'man who was shot by his own camel'. On 1 September Horrocks was preparing to shoot a bird on the shores of Lake Dutton. His kneeling camel moved while Horrocks was reloading his gun, causing the gun to fire and injuring the middle fingers of his right hand and a row of teeth.[6] Horrocks died of his wounds on 23 September in Penwortham after requesting that the camel be shot.[7]

there's a famously freaky/unattractive bodybuilder named Branch Warren and maybe 10 years ago someone on a bodybuilding board photoshopped this pic of him. each time I calmed down from laughing I would notice something else about it and double back over. almost died that day.
