"We can't study in school buildings but, in the basement, we don't hear the explosions." Thousands of children in Ukraine are forced to go to school in underground shelters due to the war. Every child deserves a safe place to learn, play and grow up.

“Children at risk today need more than our words alone.” Speaking in New York last week, Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced €96 million will be provided through UNICEF, World Health Organisation and Concern to combat child malnutrition in Africa. We thank the Irish Government for their support.

Seven children are killed or injured every day in Lebanon on average. Since March: at least 261 children killed, and more than 1,000 injured. Those who survive go to bed hungry and miss out on healthcare and school. Children must be protected. Their rights must be upheld.

After three long, painful years, more than 500,000 Palestinian children in Gaza are finally going back to formal, in-person class! Rahaf, 10, is one of them. "I want to make new friends. I love learning at school," she says. Every child in Gaza deserves to be back in class.

Afghanistan remains the only country in the world where secondary and higher education is effectively closed to women and girls. UNICEF calls on the de facto authorities to lift the restrictions and allow all girls and women to return to schools and universities immediately.

For Sewar, there is no ceasefire in Gaza. She was shot in the thigh walking home from her grandfather's house. Now she watches her friends play without her. "What did this child do to deserve this?" her mum asks. UNICEF is in Gaza now helping children like Sewar - thanks to our supporters.

UNICEF is deeply concerned by the deadly fire that claimed the lives of at least 26 children and injured 25 others in Democratic Republic of Congo. The injured children are currently receiving medical care. But many more need mental health support. UNICEF is working to help them now.

In Palestine, Sudan, Ukraine and too many more places to name, education is under attack. Schools should be safe havens. Instead, they are being bombed and destroyed - with children inside. On this International Day to Protect Education from Attack, let's keep children safe as they learn.

Panchito the parrot has an important job: he's nine-year-old Derwimar's closest friend and one of the few pieces of her home that survived the earthquake in Venezuela. Thanks to UNICEF supporters, we are still in Venezuela helping children like Derwimar and the companions who help them through. 🦜

Around 20 million children have experienced tech-facilitated sexual exploitation and abuse, a UNICEF report has found. More than half of abuse occurred on mainstream social media platforms - like this one. We cannot look away. Digital platforms must be safer.

Around 17,000 children in Nepal need protection after the devastating flood. Many have been separated from their families. 13-year-old Sonika almost became one of them. She ran through the jungle carrying her 3-year-old brother. Her family survived. But thousands of others are still searching.

At least 17,000 children have been impacted by devastating flash floods that tore through Nepal. Too many lost their lives and loved ones. Children who have survived the floods now face heightened risks. UNICEF is on the ground, but we urgently need more resources to reach every child in need.

"My dream is to have my own shop with 30 sewing machines, where I can teach youth." This International Youth Day, meet Antini, 17. A grant from a UNICEF supported programme bought her first sewing machine. "My sewing machine changed my life. I can make clothes and provide for my family," she says.

Girls are barred from secondary school in Afghanistan. So Shafiqa, 16, enrolled in an art course. When art closed to girls, she took a computer course. When that closed too, she started studying at home. Whenever a door closes, she finds another way in. UNICEF stands with her. 📚

At least 300 children have been reportedly killed in Gaza in the 300 days since a ceasefire was announced. That's an average of one child every day. Across Gaza, children continue to face acute malnutrition, disease and unsafe water. UNICEF is on the ground now, standing with children.

"Being able to breastfeed my baby despite everything I experienced is my personal victory over this war." Reda's first son died in her arms in Gaza. The trauma meant she struggled to breastfeed her son Qusay. But through UNICEF support, her milk supply returned. Qusay is now a bright, happy baby.

A UNICEF-contracted warehouse in Ukraine was severely damaged in attacks by Russian Armed Forces, destroying supplies meant for children. June recorded the highest monthly child casualties in Ukraine since 2022: 7 children killed, 116 injured. Children in Ukraine need a lasting peace.

23.4 million children could fall into poverty this year as the war in the Middle East drives up food and energy prices worldwide. Children are paying the price for a conflict they had no part in. Governments must act: protecting aid funding and scaling support for families before it's too late.

The media's attention may have moved on from the horror in Gaza. 3-month-old Misk can't. She and her mum live in a tent surrounded by rats. Misk is malnourished and covered in insect bites. Babies like her in Gaza need urgent nutrition and hygiene support. UNICEF will not abandon them.

He's a cool kid - and a healthy one too. 😎 This little baby was vaccinated at a hospital in Conakry, the capital of Guinea - one of the health centres UNICEF supports with medical equipment, health worker training, and therapeutic foods. Because every child deserves to be a cool (and healthy) kid.
