Also this is going to be an extremely long and slow manual process as these things are definitely not parseable by any AI tool for the level of detail I want here (sentiment analysis, detailed subject matter, ID of bad drawings of people I have known etc), so def don't suggest that

Logging back into Bluesky to ask: Do I know anyone who's an expert in metadata/tagging? I am finally embarking on the VAST project of tagging my (4000+) visual diary illustrations for potential data analysis purposes, and I wanna make sure I'm doing it RIGHT

I saw @seanmorl.com's show BACKCHANNEL last week and it was v good, he is v fun, recommend if u are going to Edinburgh. Anyway it reminded me of the time we did a live stream/live-draw (?!?!) together w @gfsc.community — I still think it was... pretty fun/funny?! gfsc.community/you-are-the-...

I am sorry that I did not get to see you in order to provide you with some of the hottest data gathered at EMF camp (EMF ouchies and boo boos, and the EMF job title survey) (PS I hope you are sleeping a long and restorative sleep right now or imminently)

I keep having to try and explain what @emfcamp.bsky.social is to people who have never heard of it, and it occurred to me that this fake-EMF-talk generator (created by 'the hat village') kind of effortlessly captures the vibe/energy hat-village.codeberg.page/schedule/

If you follow V, you might *occasionally* get Emma feet pics. (If that alone were not motivation enough she's also very good in general)

Omg can I buy one of these direct somehow?! What a beautiful thing and *extremely* relevant to Emma’s interests

(Sadly, though I did discover this year that I have it in me to write some reasonably competent novel-length sexy fanfic about Japanese gangsters, I probably do not have it in me to write competent YA)

…I’d write loads of plot points with pivotal scenes that happen in real world London transit locations. Make it so that everyone wants to get their picture taken in that grimy Waterloo underpass or some shit. Loads of queer train merch.

I think often about how one of London’s largest rail hubs has ben partially turned into a shrine to the works of a transphobe. And I think about how I wish I had it in me to write a series of extremely queer YA fantasy novels set entirely on trains and train stations…

Sat next to a woman on the train who’s using a modded version of chat gpt that talks to her like a sassy friend. “Hey girl” etc. I hate it

Pointed out to my partner that when we retire, old people's homes will have Mario Kart and serve tacos and bibimbap, and now we're both typed for residential care. Roll on retirement.

Most of this kind of nonsense I just babble to my partner about, but every time I even mention Figma they just say 'Figma balls' and laugh to themselves for a few minutes

Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 02/05/2025
The thing I ACTUALLY came here to say is that even though I hate learning new software, last night I spent like two hours making a scrolling carousel of images with rollover effects in Figma. It was hard!! But I figured it out!! And while I can't show it to you for proof, I CAN boast about it

I haven't been a very good blueskyer, oh dear. Turns out I really DON'T have anything to say? No thoughts, brain empty. Anyway that's not entirely true, actually I've just been out having fun IRL. Here's my monthly blog all about that emmacharleston.blogspot.com/2025/04/apri...

Yeah I got the neilmed one but I absolutely loathe the sensation — I have an abnormally small nose/narrow nostrils and cleaning never got me that far but this decongestant makes me feel like my nose GOT BIGGER 🤯

Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
This is what my doctor tells me to do, but no: hard dislike 😂

Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
this is what other people have said to me, so I will make sure I save them for a special ‘treat’ (like: my flight tomorrow) — I figured there had to be a catch somewhere!
000
Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
No drowsiness for me… yet… (though tbh on a flight just a lil drowsiness might be nice to take the edge off my anxiety…)

I just did my first ever spritz and I swear I can breathe better now through this cold than I can on a normal day 🤯
100
Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
So here’s my question to you: do YOU take decongestants when you have a cold?! Has everyone else been doing this apart from me?! How has this passed me by?!
200
Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
I only found out today because I’ve got a bit of a cold and have to fly tomorrow (I will be masked and drugged up and it is not covid) and a friend was like ‘you should take a decongestant to stop your ears popping’, so I went to the pharmacy to ask what they meant

I feel like this is comparable with only finding out about painkillers in your 30s. I’ve just been suffering over here this entire time not knowing there was an incredibly easy, effective, fast and safe fix for this issue?!!???!

Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 22/03/2025
I am 36 years old and have suffered from congestion and colds frequently my entire life and yet NOT ONE OF YOU* EVER TOLD ME about the entire class of drugs known as ‘decongestants’?!!??! (Friends, family, partners, MULTIPLE doctors)

Of course, we’ll never know. But the fact that she did do it and now has stopped makes me wish I knew more of what was going on in that big soft head of hers. (Even if much of the time it seems like the answer is ‘very little’)

Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 15/03/2025
She seems to have totally stopped doing it now — we haven’t had one in months. We initially wondered if she was having nightmares, or perhaps that she was waking up and not knowing where she was and feeling frightened. We also wondered if she was pining for her old owner…

I sometimes wonder whether Jessie has a ‘rich inner life’ or whether she’s just no thoughts brain empty most of the time. I was just thinking about how, for the first few months we got her, every few nights, at some point in the wee small hours she would let out a single guttural, hoarse howl…

(Oh okay FINE "Although sometimes colloquially, but erroneously, known as a "monorail", the transit vehicles are carried on rubber tyres running on a concrete track..." — regardless, it's still extremely cute and fun)

Gotta book a hotel near Gatwick for an early flight next weekend and was annoyed that the cheaper ones are all near North terminal when I fly from South, but then realised this is actually just a golden opportunity for ✨4AM MONORAIL✨ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatwick...

I generally consider myself a mild-mannered person but have (somehow?!) twice ended up in face-to-face confrontations with Piers Corbyn (Jeremy's shit pro-car brother) over his stance on ULEZ. So this report that came out today is music to my ears (and air to my lungs!) www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

So sad to hear about the passing of Mark Pawson — I can think of few more iconic figures in the UK zine/small publishing world. I very much hope that his astonishing collections of both his own and others work will live on somewhere safe. Every time I saw his work it made me want to make something!

They almost exclusively are from people who *didn't book holidays with them*, saying 'They wouldn't tell me where I was going before booking! Who wants that!' — it must really suck to offer a service where people so entirely miss the point that they leave you one star reviews over it, huh
100
Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 03/03/2025
I was curious about whether they are, on the whole, showing people a good time, so took a look at their reviews. They have a 4.8 star average on Trustpilot, so clearly are doing great. But what are the one star reviews saying? (Yes, I know, never read the one star reviews)...

Towards the end of this month I am going on a holiday with Journee (the provider whose whole thing is that you don't know where you're going until you get to the airport). I did another trip with them in 2023 and it was GREAT...

The other day when I was hanging out with V she also told me that apparently the innards of Kitkats are made from crushed Kitkat, and we reflected on whether this means that the vegan Kitkats must contain a homeopathically small quantity of non-vegan Kitkat in order to even exist
000
Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 02/03/2025
Is this the kitkat I left in your house? If yes I am annoyed that you won the 'jackpot' (like a minor version of gifting a friend a willing lottery ticket)

Enjoyed this article title a lot more when I realised I needed to say 'Garage' in my terrible attempt at an American accent for the pun to make sense

Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 01/03/2025
And if you are not a friend/someone I know, I would still be happy to do this at my very reasonable hourly consultation rate (no really it is far too reasonable and everyone keeps telling me I should put it up)

Emma Charleston @undividual.bsky.social · 01/03/2025
In all seriousness though, if you are a friend thinking of dabbling in design software, (indesign or affinity, but dear god not canva) please feel free to drop me a line for advice bc I’d be more than happy to hop on a call and give you ten actual good pieces of advice
