Yeah for sure. And China has all the drone manufacturing they could ever want, which doesn’t seem great. Still, far from a capability that can invade and occupy an entire country. More of a deterrent against it than anything, as we see in IR and UKR.

Larger navy, but very few ships with a range greater than 1,000 miles. That matters a lot. Aircraft carriers project power. China has no capability to patrol the waterways the way the USA does. Not even close. I don’t think every other navy on the planet combined has the power of the USA navy.

I think they would if they could. They’re in a terminal demographic tailspin and the only way to slow it down is to “acquire” more population. Which is the same thing Russia is trying. But China doesn’t really have the ability to project power.

China is very dependent on the USA. They import over 70% of their food and energy and need buyers for their exports to stay alive. A couple destroyers in the strait of Malacca would effectively starve them within weeks. The USA is self-sufficient for the most part and has unassailable geography.

In great news, last week council approved funding to establish a public park at Mātai Moana/Mt Crawford on the Miramar Peninsula. A couple of bureaucratic hurdles still to be jumped, but we’re on our way to building on the community’s work to rid the area of pests and creating a second Zealandia!

They’re exempt from VAT (~50% the cost of a car), free parking, no tolls, free charging, and they’re allowed to drive in bus lanes. All made possible by Norway’s massive ~$2T sovereign wealth fund, which is basically just oil money. It’s interesting, but it’s an outlier and nothing to emulate.

The world wars became world wars rather than regional conflicts due to robust alliances on both sides, and we don’t have that today. NATO is strong, but Russia doesn’t have any real allies. They’re maxed out in UKR, and the last thing China needs is global unrest. They rely way too much on EU/USA.
