I'm doing fine, Kevin, thanks. Hope you are too! I hope when I die someone writes as thoughtful and warm an obit about me as you wrote about your friend.

The reality of Manzanar was harsh and horrible, but a spectacular lineup of SABR authors' retelling of its tales is truly a labor of love and hope. The new website and book offer powerful glimpses into the way things were. Now more than ever, we must remain vigilant so they're never that way again.

And she was great in "The Wizard of Oz" too. In all seriousness, Margaret Hamilton the scientist was an early leader in the field of computer sciences. She headed up the software engineering lab at MIT and played an integral role in NASA moon missions that put US cybertechnology on the map. RIP

You give him full measure of your own writing talents in the obituary you wrote for him, Kevin. Condolences on the loss of your friend and supporter.

Or for someone who has to be near, but doesn't want to be, a person who stinks of too many improperly digested Big Macs combined with the stench of rotten impacted feces clinging crustily to his buttcrack

There's something so genuine and charming about Zohran Mamdani, and then he goes ahead and actually fulfills campaign promises to boot! He's truly a People's Mayor with the spine to both stand up to Trump AND romance him, and his quick wit has endeared him to New Yorkers in just a few short months.

Hi Kurt. The first book of yours I read was "Heyday;" you signed a copy for me at the home of Judy Tobias Davis many years ago. I met your author wife Anne Kreamer at the same gathering, and it was her book about going grey that convinced me to ditch the red hair dye I'd been using and go natural!

Those bros are "influencers"? Who in their right mind would allow themselves to be "influenced" by either of them? I think the title of "influencer" should be eliminated from the lexicon. EVERYONE is an influencer; some are just more influential than others. These dudes? No thank you.

This is a meaningless game with no impact on the standings, so if the game is called before it's complete, which should be in just a few more minutes, it won't be replayed or continued because it's a season-ender and cannot be rescheduled immediately as the rules demand. So it COULD end in a tie?

Perry Barber @umpireplb.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Depends on the scenario, Michael, and I was trained in a different era when the rules were different, so here's a copy-and-paste of the relevant section of the Official Baseball Rules that pertains to your question, Maybe after you finish reading it you can tell ME what will happen!
Rule 7.02 of the Official Basebal rules, which pertains to suspended games, rainouts, games suspended before they're "official" or "complete," games that are suspended with the score tied, and so on.Rule 7.02 of the Official Baseball Rules, which pertains to suspended games, rain outs, games that are tied when they're suspended, etc.

An interesting possible scenario developing because of the threat of rain: will the game be called before it's "complete" so Lindor's 300th home run won't count? (It's in only the top of the fourth - late start, slow game) Keep the game going, Jen; it's your call!

Only a deeply diseased idiot would describe anything as "final" or "once and for all." Democracy is never a finished product; it requires constant vigilance, defending, and re-booting. But to Trump, everything is dominance to exert power and destruction to prove superiority. (They do neither.)

Farewell to Moe Resner, who enjoyed a stand-up career as Jackie Mason's opening act and became an adult men's baseball lifer until he was in his mid-eighties and couldn't run so well anymore. He made this doc about the NYGiants' final game at the Polo Grounds in 1957: youtu.be/xNIFwY5nb64?...

New York is going down the drain under our muslim sharia-loving commie homo lefty pinko mayor. Kids reading books at age 2! Getting fed nutritious meals at school! Potholes being filled, Second Avenue completely re-paved. DoorDash workers being repaid money they were cheated out of. We are doomed.

She's at first base in todays' (Saturday's) game in DC I'd love to see her work the plate tomorrow, and if the rotation follows the usual pattern, she will - unless Mother Nature has something to say about it. Mom always gets in the last word.

Perry Barber @umpireplb.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
It will be interesting to see #1. if the game in DC even gets played today; #2. how that will affect the rotation for tomorrow's game(s;) and #3. which base Jen will wind up working today (should be first base, but we'll see;) and #4. how a postponement today will affect the rotation(s) for tomorrow

Not necessarily, Michael Jen is in a somewhat peculiar position as a vacation umpire; she's been used rather sparingly, and several times has NOT rotated clockwise from one position to the next (i.e., home, third, second, first) but has been inserted wherever MLB deems useful to different crews

Oh no, our socialist commie muslim mayor is up to no good again, forcing a company to settle a workers' law suit because DoorDash CHEATED a quarter of a million hardworking people out of money they earned but were stiffed for by DD. REAL leadership would have been keeping the money for himself!

Curtis Pride is an outstanding human being; he played for the Nashua Pride of the Atlantic League in 1999 when I umpired there. He continues to show his love for baseball, particularly women's baseball, and his wife Lisa is an announcer for a minor league team in Florida. A real baseball lifers duo!

The Kraft Family ethic in a nutshell That was 32 years ago! A lifetime. Yet the Krafts are apparently even more mired in, rather than liberated by, their vast wealth than they were decades ago, imprisoned by their unreasonable, petty prejudices. How pathetic is that, and how badass are you, Lisa.

Took my friend since 2nd grade Liz Chanler to a Tom Rush concert at the lovely Opera House in Camden, Maine. He played "No Regrets," "Urge for Going," and a stirring "St. James Infirmary Blues" as I was transported back a half century when I taught myself to play guitar listening to Tom Rush albums.
P Lee with teenage dream Tom Rush, who DIDN'T remember having met me fifty-two years ago, but I told him my feelings weren't hurt... seeing him perform after a half century was a very nostalgic and moving experience for me. His singing and playing was as stripped-down and authentic as it gets, just him, his accompanist Brendan Cleary, and his guitar(s) which included a couple of gorgeous old Martins and a twelve-string that just rang out with sweetness as he played staples of his repertoire since the 1960s: "No Regrets," Joni Mitchell's "Urge For Going," and a bangin' version of "St. James Infirmary Blues," among others. It was a wonderful, nostalgic way to kick off the fall as summer fades into September and baseball amps up into playoffs, and the music never dies.My childhood friend Lizzie Chanler with my teenage dream Tom Rush
