An AI "doctor" video about chronic stress is going viral, but the medical system keeps using "stress" to dismiss real symptoms and ignore sensory load. We need regulation without erasure. Read AJ Locashio's latest deep-dive on holding both truths: 🔗 umb-nd.org/rwe #Stress #ChronicStress
A portrait-oriented graphic on a black background. Near the top is a small multicolored umbrella logo above the white letters “UND.” Large text in the upper half reads, “Both are true:” in green, followed by “Stress impacts the body.” in white, “AND” in yellow, and ““Stress” is often used to dismiss real illness.” in white. In the lower-left corner, an illustrated person with gray hair in a bun, glasses, and a headset holds a gray-and-white dog. A speech bubble extending to the right states that it took nearly a year to diagnose the person’s cancer because their symptoms were dismissed as stress. Stress

From Inside the Body

From the Environment

What is it?

Your nervous system's alarm is stuck in emergency mode.

Your brain is reacting to real pressure in your everyday surroundings.

Why does it happen?

Your brain and body get stuck in a loop of sending stress signals back and forth.

Loud noises, bright lights, trying to hide your natural self to fit in, or dealing with too many demands.

What helps?

Calm-down tools like deep breathing, muscle relaxation, and nervous system support.

Changing your surroundings, lowering noise or lights, taking breaks, and asking for support.Graphic titled “Stress” explaining the overlap between external stressors and internal anxiety, illustrated with a surprised woman and an information panel.

Stress

The Overlap Zone
Both at the same time

• Many people experience both types of stressors together.

• Too much noise or light can make anxiety from inside the body worse.

• At the same time, feeling anxious makes it harder to deal with loud or busy places.

Read article @ umb-nd.org/rweGraphic titled “Rethinking Chronic Stress” with three speech bubbles describing physical stressors, coping tools, and the validity of symptoms.

Rethinking Chronic Stress

Read article @ umb-nd.org/rwe

Listen to the Signal: Sensory overload, masking, and unsustainable demands are real physical stressors—not imaginary worries.

Tools vs. Systems: Breathing exercises soothe an alert in the moment. Changing your environment and removing demands fix the source.

Don't Settle for Dismissal: Your symptoms are real, whether they stem from an anxious nervous system, environmental strain, or an unaddressed physical condition.
