I don’t believe the past was better, but neither do I believe progress can be taken for granted. It cannot mean what it increasingly seems to mean: rising inequality, persistent poverty, and a growing and dangerous disillusionment with politics

Clearly the Labour candidate in the Holborn and St. Pancras by-election Sagal Abdi-Wali is on message nor does she want to damage her future prospects in the party.

Whatever, her stance might have been, David Cameron bowed to pressure from the right of his party and held a referendum on the EU that he thought he could win. His mistake, holding a referendum with such major constitutional implications on a simple majority. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-poli...

Kemi Badenoch wowing the Conservatives core voters with her conference speech which it would be fair to say, that conference was all clapped out by the end of it.

Kemi Badenoch's world, a world where Britain is free of government interference* and is like some giant Freeport. * except when government bailouts are required, bailing out the bankers and bailing out everyone as happened during the Covid-19 pandemic

Kemi Badenoch not making the Liz Truss mistake of unfunded tax cuts for well off but instead will fund them off the backs of the poor.

You could never accuse the Tories of original thinking when it comes to their policy platform. Tax cuts on inherited, unearned income affecting 5% of the population, but costing £6bn and paid for by welfare cuts and reduced public spending. #tories #badenoch www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/poli...

Fiscal headroom aka dancing on the head of a pin. A small number in relation to government spending. What is not justified are fiscal measures to ease the cost of living pressures being for everyone.

Bond markets like interest rates greater than inflation but don't like unfunded tax cuts. The later was painfully discovered by former Conservative prime minister Liz Truss.

Blue remembered hills: Kemi Badenoch's conference speech reminded me of Margaret Thathcher. Getting government out of people's hair, low taxes and deregulation. Though this time I don't think there are the state assests to sell off or a new North Sea bonanza to pay for her ambitions.

The Conservatives: Tough on defence, the Britannia Dome Tough on law and order, 50,000 new prison places Tough on welfare, the two child benefit limit Tough on the climate, drill, baby, drill The Tories the tough talking party.

Inheritance Tax (IHT): Kemi Badenoch makes an appeal to the 1 in 19 of voters who would be impacted by a change in IHT rules. The sad thing is how many of the 19 out of 20 who would not be effected will vote for tax cutting Tories not realising that the tax cuts are for the wealthy not the many.

Now is not the time to dwell on the past but look forward to a future of growth under the right leader, Kemi Badenoch to lead us to a promised land of low taxes and min. regulation. Getting government out of people's way except when bailing out the bankers or providing support during Covid?

19 out 20 estates will be unaffected by the Conservatives changes on Inheritance Tax(IHT). Only those least in need of support receiving the benefit of the IHT changes. Good news for some beneficaries, some tax free unearned income.
