Last year I worked on an affirmation wall just for the staff. It was OK. I think staffs lack of participation is really what made it fail in the end? But I also understand that we’re educators and super busy. I’ll think of something else for that later or how it can be improved.

My big initiative at my job this year was to get every single student and staff’s birthday. I put a sign on their door or locker the night before and write them a message. I leave space for other people. There’s also offbrand legos, fidgets, or snacks they can get as a gift!

I’ve been contemplating myself and my life a lot lately. It’s not like I’ve discovered any great answers, but I feel so much more calm and present and I’m actively working on being a better person than I was a year ago. I think that’s the thing about being the best version of yourself.

Really embracing not letting my self-conscious side stop me from being silly & goofy in my classroom. In previous years, I’ve been too scared to let that side out bc of nerves. But I also realized I want to stop doing that. Kids will react to the genuine more than you being ‘normal.’

You’re correct! It’s funny looking back at my journals because I often talk myself in circles, but I start off heated and fired up. Sometimes in the moment my reaction is not how I want to react. 😭 And it takes a few hours or 30 minutes journaling to reach that conclusion.

Honestly, in most circumstances when a student pushes so much, it usually involves like an administrator conversation. I haven’t had to have many though. Most of the time I can just be honest and sit down with them. Or they see me crying and feel bad lol First yr me had it ROUGH lol
