It was not intentionally like the foul Messi committed in the first game. It was an obvious error from the referee to not give yellow for the foul, which probably forced VAR to get involved. I think yellow would have been the right decision

The mistake is that the referee didn’t gave a yellow for the Balogun foul. Now it became a clear and obvious error that he didn’t penalized that foul, so he had to give him a red. It looked bad in slow motion but VAR didn’t interfere in Messi’s foul in the first game.
