The first use of AI to support a neurosurgeon in real time during live surgery has protected the sight of a man having a brain tumour removed. The operation was carried out as part of a clinical trial using AI technology developed at @uclqsion.bsky.social. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Welcome Library fans to our new display at Queen Square Library and Archives (QSLA), celebrating #UCL200, #ION75, and QSLA’s 138-year history, its people, connections and collections, from basement obscurity to flagship status. More info available at www.queensquare.org.uk/archives/interesting
Some of the items for the display covering the years 1888-1949 - a floorplan of the National Hospital's new wing in 1938, the Medical Library in the 1940s, sandbags outside of the Library during the Second World War, and the Medical Committee meeting minutes, where it all began. 

The suggestion of creating a Medical Library, and the following endorsement, occurred at the Medical Committee meeting in February 1888. Gowers, a Pitman’s shorthand devotee, used it for his medical work, monographs, lectures and diaries. He advocated its use by the medical profession. His fiancée, Mary Baines, learnt it so they could exchange private postcards. His children knew it too! See QSA tinyurl.com/3vpvtsn2 #EYAHandwriting
A transcription of Gowers’ shorthand diaries which has been diligently transcribed by Ann Scott, grand-daughter of Sir William Gowers. Two hard copies are available in Queen Square Library and Archives, London. On online open access version is available https://queensquare.org.uk/archives/new/gowersAnother example of handwriting as a transcription by the author. Transcriptions provide useful insights into all sorts of connections.
