Our researchers recently solved a medical mystery. They knew that TRPM4 gene mutations cause serious heart diseases or serious skin diseases, but never both. The team discovered that body temperature and other factors played a role in gene activation. Image: Researchers wear white coats in a lab.

First-year medical student, Abigail Vidrio, grew up in Orange Cove, a small town in the heart of Fresno County. Her path to medicine was shaped early by her family's access to health care. Video description: Abigail Vidrio stands outside, speaking directly to the camera.
