#Puya micrantha is currently in full bloom in the Deserts of the Americas collection, bed 155. Accessioned into the Garden in 1956, it produces dramatic, towering flower stalks packed with rich nectar that pollinators simply can't resist! #UCBotanicalGarden #Naturephoto

This spectacular Peruvian native #orchid, Phragmipedium kovachii, was first described for science in 2002. It's been heavily poached from its tropical cloud forest habitat. It's now listed as critically endangered by the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Blooming now!

The Puyas are currently blooming in bed 612: Chagual (Puya chilensis) is unforgettable with its striking chartreuse flowers, while a nearby stand of Puya coerulea var. intermedia boasts deep purple blooms. Both are magnets for local birds and pollinators. #Puyachilensis
