Sad news today with the loss of Western United. They leave us as the most successful now-defunct team in the Unofficial A-League Men Championship. Long may they be remembered. #ALM #ALeague #ForeverWest #WUFC
An all black graphic honouring Western United’s time in the Unofficial A-League Men Championship.

They held 8 Titles for 21 Games & 254 Days

The last held the title on 16 May 2025, when they lost 3-0 to Melbourne City at AAMI Park. Had they not lost that game (or had they scored one more goal in the return leg of that semi final) they would have died and taken the Unofficial Title with them. That would have sucked.

Their longest streak as champions by games held was 7 games long, from 5 February 2022 to 19 March 2022.

Well Perth have gone and done it. They’ve retained the title and in doing so, guaranteed it won’t appear in finals for the 9th ever time. Either Brisbane or the Glory will end the season with it. #SYDvPER #ALM #ALeague

Well, here’s who to back this weekend if you want your team to grab the unofficial championship before the season ends. Pretty simple on one side… #ALM #ALeague
A graphic showing the title chances for every team in the Unofficial A-League Men Championship.

If Sydney win, they’ll be champs and Auckland can still take the title in the regular season. Newcastle will await the finals draw to see if/when they’ll compete for the title. Adelaide, Mariners, Macarthur, City, Victory & Wellingtons hopes depend on if they make the top 6 and for Brisbane, Perth & Wanderers it’ll be all over for the season.

Much simpler if Perth retain the title this weekend. Brisbane can take it from them next week, and every other team will have to wait until next season, neither team can make finals.

Here’s how the rest of the regular season will pan out for the Unofficial A-League Men Championship, with the potential for the championship to appear in finals… if Sydney take the title from Perth on Saturday. #ALM #ALeague
A graphic showing the scenarios of the Unofficial A-League Men Championship for the next 3 weeks.

If Sydney win, they’ll play Auckland next week. Following that the title will either appear in in Finals Week 1 or 2, depending on how the ladder ends up, but based on the ladder today, it is more likely that if Sydney hold the title we will see the Championship in Finals Week 1 (Elimination Final), whilst if Auckland are holding it, we will have to wait until the Semi Finals start in Finals Week 2.

If Perth retain the title, they’ll play Brisbane next week and the winner of that game will be the Unofficial Champion at the end of the season, neither team can play in finals.

Perth begin their first defence of the title since 2022 away to the Sky Blues. In order for the title to appear in finals, Sydney will need a win this weekend. More on that throughout the week… #SYDvPER #ALM #ALeague

i need to find a new fun fact about perth in the unofficial championship
the meme from toy story 2 (i believe) of andy dropping woody and saying “i don’t want to play with you anymore”. andy has the text “Unofficial A-League Men Championship Admin” over the top of him, whilst woody has the text “Perth Glory 1530 days without a title” overlaid
