I haven't worked with image, so I think i might have misunderstood something: if image similarity is precomputed and put in a lookup table, why is the aws lambda needed, or is that simply to provide a quicker/realtime/expanding version of the thing you're otherwise doing offline?

having been working a lot with local models (and taking the whole stack apart to put it together again in a different way) this was super interesting, esp the idea of open sharing....

A fascinating read about a key part of the early iot/sensing ecosystem - Usman has written up the history of Pachube pachube.haque.co.uk/about/

A first-hand history of Pachube, one of the world's first open IoT data platforms - written by its founder Usman Haque, from founding to the 2011 LogMeIn acquisition.

thanks! that workshop you hosted at Arup was a really important intersection point for so many things... funny how things turn out in retrospect; at the time it was simply a fun afternoon to spend with kindred spirits!

Pachube had quite a complex evolution, starting conceptually with a post-grad project I did around 1996, launching publicly early 2008 and continuing on to its acquisition by LogMeIn in July 2011, and to Google's acquisition of its successor in 2018 (after which they closed it down)
4 screenshots of the platform in various evolutionary stages: EnvironmentXML in 2005, cnctd.net in 2007, Pachube v1 in 2008 and Pachube v2 in 2010Further evolution of the platform: Pachube v3 in 2011, Pachube v4 in 2012, Cosm.com in 2012 and Xively.com in 2013

For those who remember #Pachube: I discovered earlier this year that most web references are lost in the #deadweb, its Wikipedia article redirects, and AI is inventing a whole new sloptofiction history. So I've resurrected the platform as a static archive site & written up a comprehensive history...

if essay format, I find @eflux.bsky.social quite easy on the eye for long form+image, combines inline images with slide over full height ads (which could be content images). I'd prefer if inline images were full bleed/larger rather than indented eg www.e-flux.com/architecture...
