I love your finance/more abstract policy videos!

Do we know if the government still intends to hit the target? I'm not sure what the latest from the feds is on immigration

FYI, even for-profit developers will overbuild to the point that prices go down given the right regulatory environment, i.e. zoning reforms. We're seeing this effect push rents down in places Portland OR and Austin TX right now. It's *alarming* that the NDP hasn't grasped this policy's value.

I'm not sure I buy this argument, it kinda amounts to government sanctioned sports gambling advertising and it's hard to imagine that having a positive impact. I will admit to being a hardline "this shit sucks ass and has net negative social utility, BAN" guy though so ymmv

the only good-faith argument for it I can think of is to build it at the terminus of a BRT route (but we would need to commit to funding BRT for that... which is just as fantastical atp)

My approach was to give negative feedback for the options that I didn't like on the grounds that all of them seemed like substantial scope/cost creep compared to keeping it all on one street (in addition to having network downsides like being less direct routes).

Is it just me or are all of the north-south options kind of pointless?

I didn't follow the HAF saga in Ottawa--did they do a good job with the housing reforms, or halfass it?

feels weird to look at this at a neighbourhood level but the result is interesting! I'd only seen the effects considered in aggregate in relation to demographics and/or commercial classification

I think they're supposed to look like doll clothes--exaggerated texture and funky mismatches of scale, not literal suede leather.

Leaving the issue of minors aside, you could even weight adults' votes based on their age demographic's turnout vs participation statistics. Frankly I think all of these ideas are pretty badly flawed, but so is having parents vote on behalf of their children.

✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
As far as options go, it IS a rock and a hard place. There may be no right answer, but I'm not convinced there aren't other options to explore. You could let kids' votes be saved up and spent in young adulthood, or do some kind of portfolio-based senate reform including a youth policy tranche.

Also re: engagement, I was referring to the lively discussion in the comments. I think when folks see you make something that misses the mark or lacks your usual thoughtfulness, it raises the question of why--and in the clickbait era it's easy to assume and hard to give the benefit of the doubt.

✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I agree "if everyone would just" is unrealistic, but isn't that also a problem with your proposal? If everyone would just agree to act in children's best interests "by giving parents more power" vs "by voting for better policy"--the former is just an example of the latter.

✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I'm sure it's great for engagement but it was kind of a disappointing episode, especially because you've spent so much time in comments sections defending a policy idea you yourself acknowledge is totally unachievable. If it's meant as an unrealistic "what if" video, why not explore other options?

✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
You do! The topic of disenfranchisement/underrepresentation is interesting and important; the episode places a lot of emphasis on a fringe hypothetical using airtime that could have been spent exploring the issue more in depth. It grabs attention, but in a way that pulls focus from the bigger theme.

✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 07/09/2026
I mean "manipulation" as in systemic tweaks. There are a lot of options to tackle this type of disenfranchisement; proxy voting seems no more compelling--or achievable--than others. IMO the ideal would be to somehow get voters at large to care about the future of the pluralistic society they live in

The final location I have for now: Gazer Peak. No one knows why it's called that, but the coaster just reopened after an extended closure. It looks like a wild ride!
Illustration of a mountain with big Hollywood-sign style letters on its upper slope and rollercoaster tracks snaking in and out of openings in the rock face. The sign spells out the words GAZER PEAK. There is a rustic cabin with a rickety set of stairs at the top of a tall scaffold partway up.

Next up, the Haus of Bobos! Can't have a fairground without clowns, but mercifully in Ludo Land they have been quarantined to a single building for everyone's safety.
Illustration of a large victorian style mansion whose features have been warped into liquid shapes so that the windows look as though they are melting off. There is a giant inflatable clown sticking out of the turret's chimney holding a balloon which reads "HAUS OF BOBOS" and clown motifs adorn the weathervane, front doors and lintel.detail view of previous image

I like the idea of a Doug Ford whose commitment to culture war bullshit political footballs is weaker than his desire to execute ooh-rah populist nose-thumbing maneuvers.

It is strange! I just think it's a stronger argument for vaccine mandates than it is for proxy voting, which is a pretty hard sell. Things get weird when you try to redress uneven representation with manipulations like this.

✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Wild to bring up the example of vaccines as a positive case of important choices being left up to parents when we have active measles outbreaks due to irresponsibility in that regard. For me this issue is more of a social responsibility/voter conscience problem than being about (dis)enfranchisement.

Next location from my unfinished D&D module: Wongo's Tunnel of Love. Did you know red is the colour of love? I hear Wongo's eyes are also red, probably because he's full of love.
Illustration of a landscape with a series of artificial hills covered in lush jungle foliage. There is a flume ride style ride platform under a bamboo and reed awning that connects two cave openings in the hills, and a sign above embellished with hearts that reads "Wongo's Tunnel Of Love". A path leads from the foreground to a queueing area in front of the platform stairs. The area is conspicuously empty and devoid of people.

From my unfinished D&D module project, the park entrance! Recently a mysterious fairground complex surrounded by high walls appeared in an empty valley not too far from town. Music and festive noises sometimes can be heard from within; some townsfolk went to investigate, but no one has yet returned.
Illustration of a vaguely Tudor-style theme park entry gate surrounded by trees and foliage. There are no workers or attendees present. The arch bears a banner that reads "LUDO LAND" in large illuminated-script style letters, and the central spire has has the faces of smiling cartoon goblins on its sides. At its peak is a long pennant that snakes its way through the air.

Will be uploading a bunch of art I made for an unfinished D&D module project based on a fantasy theme park that fell on hard times. This was my keystone "park map" planning drawing that shows all the major (and a few minor) locations.
Illustration captioned "LUDO LAND" in large medieval-style text at the bottom. Main image shows a bird's eye view of a fantasy theme park with a variety of rides and a central cathedral tower capped by an enormous animatronic mascot, drawn in a cartoony style. The mascot is a friendly-looking cartoon goblin wearing a wizard's cap and holding a magic wand with a star on the end.

"it's good if it leads to better policy and bad if it leads to worse policy" is looking increasingly attractive as a political rubric despite worrying implications. posiwid or whatever

Definitely it qualifies as "most potentially achievable passenger rail project in HRM" but I'm not convinced it would appeal enough to riders/commuters to be worthwhile as just a conversion
000
✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
Land use by the old via station is getting better but it's still not near enough to the majority of the commuter destinations in the beating heart of downtown or good enough in its own right. Could see this option being very reasonable as part of a future brt->lrt conversion though!
100
✨💀 Bill 💀✨ @tyuran.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
My position on this is that using the existing track for commuter rail only really works if we're willing to do a LOT of redevelopment in the south end--and maybe some track extension to bring the Halifax terminus further downtown from the old train station.

I continue to be big mad about it but "wait and see and hope" does always seem to be the official answer to the housing crisis too so I guess I'll keep doing that for however many more years it takes ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

I'm mostly just still stuck on the sticker shock of how crazy rent is in the big 2026 tbh. Guess I cross my fingers for more press blocks so vacancy rates in the central city go over 3%

Pretty far off the mark here. Fillmore leads the regressive, anti-data-driven-policy, pro-austerity faction on city council. There's no reason to suspect that empowering him would better prepare the city for growth based on his tenure so far. One assumes he's got a friend on the editorial board?
