No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 5 Ebenezer turns into an ape to steal things from a mall to turn them into his villain costume. #WIPSnips
Rummaging through the racks of sports equipment, Ebenezer eventually spotted what he was looking for. A gym bag. Specifically one that had a compartment for sneakers. The boy needed a bag to carry his clothes, and while he could’ve brought one from home, he felt it’d be the smarter choice to grab something from the mall since he was stealing stuff anyway.

The next item on his list was running shoes, something that was made to move around in and could last for a while. The store had plenty of options, but since Ebenezer didn’t know what qualities made for a good shoe, he just grabbed the most expensive pair he could find. Corporations wouldn’t make their products super costly without good reason, right?

Before leaving, the chimp also grabbed a pair of insulated gloves. Ebenezer knew he needed to keep his hands covered so as not to leave fingerprints, but he might as well grab some extra protection just to be safe. The boy stuffed his stolen goods in his bag, then jumped into the hole he made and returned to scouring the vents.

His next targets were clothes that could hide his body while being easy to move in. The ape raided a clothing store for a red hoodie, a black vest jacket (for a few extra pockets), and a pair of jeans. The jeans weren’t any different from his usual pair, but Ebenezer figured he should make sure every part of his villain costume didn’t belong to his civilian identity

The boy also grabbed a crossbody bag that he’d use as a makeshift sheathe for his staff. While it was possible to store the weapon in his pocket, Ebenezer could imagine that method taking too long when he only had seconds to react. Having the golden staff on his back, ready to be pulled out at a moment’s notice would be more efficient.

Plus, it would look cooler…

It's been a while since I last dressed up for Halloween, but I've decided to get back to it, even if I'm only dressing up for myself. This year, I decided to be simple and nostalgic and dress up as Skully from Scary Godmother.

Crossworld Nodus - The Afterstory, Chapter 1 Disc gets Chozen to go easy on a girl that just tried to rob him. #WIPSnips
“Okay, here’s what we’ll do. I’ll take her to the Concord, where we’ll get her checked up and then temporarily detained. Then I’ll read the riot act, get her good and scared before letting her off with a warning. That work for you, Mr. Hero?”

“That’d be perfect, Chozen,” I replied, laughing off the “Hero” comment. If anyone else called me that, I’d be inclined to slap them in the face. But Chozen was doing me a favor, so I’d look the other way this one time. “Thank you.”

“Yeah, yeah,” the robot cop muttered as he slung the goth clown over his shoulder. “Just make sure you’ve got the good oil for my check-up.” I saw Chozen off and watched him walk towards his partner. Officer Zurea Smith stood outside, making sure nobody walked into the store while the metal bear handled the situation. It was an easy job for the lizard woman as her muscular frame and glowing plate armor made her an intimidating figure.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 2 Ebenezer had a talent for understaing Eastern Languages. He wanted to know if that was his Gifted Power, but is afraid to look into it because of his father. #WIPSnips
Ebenezer examined the pages and he took in the messy scrawl, his mind slowly scanning the symbols and digging up their meaning. Ebenezer liked learning about languages and found it interesting to compare the differences and similarities of the different dialects. This hobby of his was brought on by Ebenezer’s strange affinity with Eastern Languages.

For whatever reason, Ebenezer could understand Asian speech and writing, even though he’s only been taught English. Once, Ebenezer spent a few hours looking up Japanese Kanji and end up fluent in the language by accident. The only explanation Ebenezer had for this odd talent was that it was a Gift, a superpower. A very underwhelming superpower, if he was right, but not every Gifted ran around in tights and fighting supervillains.

Ebenezer desperately wanted to know more, to see if he was special, even if only by a little bit. If he was then Ebenezer would be able to endure all the pain and injustice, knowing later he’d have an advantage in life he could use. But the boy didn’t dare try to find out while he lived with Menelaus. Ebenezer didn’t know what that man would do if he found out that his son might have a Gift, and he didn’t want to know.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 12 rice - food Ethan battling Barrasso and confronting her about her brainwashed slaves. #WIPSnips
“What’s the matter?” she cooed mockingly. “You seem tired. Did you wear yourself out playing with my boys?”

“Just trying to see why a bunch of guys would throw their lives away for the likes of you,” Ethan spat. He could feel his body’s soreness ease slightly as the wukong stopped moving, but it was a slow process.

Ethan knew he should play along to keep Barrasso talking to buy time, but her tone of voice stoked his anger. That was the same tone used by Roth and Pery, along with the other classmates who used him like a slave. They knew what they were doing was wrong, that they were hurting him with their actions. But they did it anyway, and they enjoyed it.

“Oh, it’s easy when you have all the power in the world,” Barrasso replied smugly. Luckily for Ethan, Barrasso didn’t seem irritated by his slight. If anything, she was even more amused than before. Vampires must be the type of predator that enjoys playing with her food. “All I have to do is bat my eyes, and these boys will know I’m their queen. One that they must devote their entire lives too.”

“Is that what you call brainwashing? ‘Batting your eyes’? I can only imagine the hateful shrew you were when you were alive if you had to resort to this to become a “Queen”.” That got a reaction from the lady. Barrasso’s smile twisted into a snarl as she stared down Ethan with a burning hatred that seemed centuries old.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 22 Ethan's attempts at villainy backfire again when he breaks into his gym teacher's house, only to find she has a rather nasty set of skeletons in her basement. #WIPSnips
“What the fuck…” Ethan wondered aloud as he stared at the shut door. Like with her earlier reaction, James’s sudden attack seemed to come too soon. While Ethan did come with malicious intentions, it felt like James jumped the gun and started attacking him.

More crashing came from downstairs; James must be picking herself up. But instead of climbing up the stairs, it sounded like she was moving deeper into the basement. Regardless of the strangeness, Ethan decided to see this through and opened the door to follow her.

Like the rest of the house, Skadi’s basement was simple and what you’d expect a basement to be like. Dark, dusty, and full of random stuff you couldn’t find space for in your house. But there was one exception.

In the far corner, there was what looked like a makeshift studio, the kind for taking pictures. It had an expensive camera on a tripod pointed at an area where the walls, ceilings, and floors were painted green. There was also a lot of strange furniture that had leather cuffs attached to them, Ethan wasn’t sure what they were at the time, but he got the context pretty quickly.

But what really grabbed Ethan’s attention was the large cage near the studio. The door was swung open, and inside an old mattress where a boy laid down while handcuffed to the bars. He was around Ethan’s age, wearing nothing but an old blanket over his waist. There was a glazed look in his eyes that didn’t seem to register anything. The villain could tell the boy was out of it, as he didn’t even flinch as James grabbed him by the hair and held a switchblade to his throat.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 26 contract - pact When it looks like Ethan and the Vampires are about to get into another fight, Vlad steps in to negotiate on Ethan's behalf.
A sudden clap snapped Ethan out of his thoughts. He turned to the side and watched Vlad step forward and walk into the middle of the room, putting himself between the two groups.

"I believe it's time to renegotiate," he said, his tone only slightly smug. Wade shot him a withering glare but said nothing to stop the other vampire. Instead, she sat back in her seat and grimaced, a look of bitter resignation on her face.

"The best deal I believe we can come to at the moment is a simple non-aggression pact," the masked undead continued. "A mutual agreement to not interfere in each other's affairs."

"For that to work," Wade spoke up with a listless air. "Ebenezer will have to return John to our custody." Despite her words, Wade acted like she knew this request wouldn't be accepted and threw it out just to be annoying. But Ethan couldn't let it slide even if it was a pointless jab.

"Which isn't happening," the wukong snapped. Ethan could've sworn he heard the briefest of sighs coming from Vlad, but he responded to the discord quickly enough.

"We shall agree not to interfere in each other's affairs from this day forward," the bloodsucker amended. Then he turned to Wade and stared her down. "Besides, our "side business" will have to put on hold until the werewolf problem is dealt with. The last thing we need is for the Crusaders to start hunting those beasts only to stumble onto us instead."

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 2 Ebenezer tries meditation to relax and accidentally ends up in the Wukong's ancestral home.
Strangely, he felt the unfriendly chill of the attic turn warm and inviting like he was outside on a warm day. It wasn’t an unpleasant surprise and Ebenezer had to force himself not to think about it lest he break the immersion. The boy basked in the warmth and the odd feeling of… coming home that it brought. A feeling his actual home lacked.

Something soft brushed against Ebenezer’s cheek and landed on his nose. It felt like a flower petal but the rational part of Ebenezer’s mind labeled it a piece of paper. The boy didn’t want to touch it to avoid breaking his trance, but the bit of stationary was in the right spot to tickle his nose and coax out a sneeze.

Slowly and with a slackened hand, Ebenezer removed the paper and was about to flick it away, but then stopped when he properly felt the object. The item in between the teen’s fingertips was cool, slightly damp, and had the rubber-like texture of plant matter. It wasn’t paper, and it certainly wasn’t something you’d find in the Giroux family’s attic.

Ebenezer nervously opened his eyes, then shut them again when they were stabbed by an unexpected ray of light. Rubbing the stinging sensation out of his eyeballs, Ebenezer opened them wide to see what he told himself couldn’t be true.

But the truth was right in front of him. Ebenezer was not in his attic anymore. Instead, he was outside, sitting on a plot of gravel surrounded by a patch of trees. And if that wasn’t crazy enough, given the giant rising spire of rock nearby, and the fields of blue below him, he was on a mountain, surrounded by miles of open water.

“...What the hell?”

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 23 Ethan goes out to find some weed to placate John when he sobers up. #WIPSnips
Despite Poppytown not being the beacon of Normalist purity it claimed to be, Ethan hadn’t run into many drug dealers. There was one guy who hung out in an alley the villain was going to use, but Ethan never paid him any mind; he just scared the guy off and went about his business.

But there was one place he knew where he could get some marijuana. That garden supply store that Vlad had taken him and Zoe to when they were hiding from the Witching Heiress. Ethan wasn’t sure how invested the vampire would be in the store’s illegal side business, but hopefully, he wouldn’t mind the wukong taking some of the product for his new tenant.

Realistically speaking, he probably would mind. Illegal drugs would always be lucrative, even Ethan knew that, so no matter how small the portions the wukong took were, they’d probably put a dent in the store’s bottom line.

But while the villain knew this, his exhausted brain was more focused on avoiding the rude awakening he’d get tomorrow if John were allowed to freak out about the stuff that had happened to him. Rather than wonder if he was going to strain the already testy alliance he had with the vampire, Ethan just thought about getting the illicit substance and getting out.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 7 Ethan stops a mugging as part of his violence training and this get a little messy. #WIPSnips
The man let out muffled cries as he turned and stumbled out of the alleyway. For a split second, Ethan wanted to go after him to make sure he was okay. But he decided against it, not only that not what a supervillain should be doing, but Ethan doubted the thug wanted to be around him right now.

Ethan glanced at the alley floor and cringed at the mess left behind. Horrific injury or not, the man didn’t look too bad. But if you only looked at the giant puddle of ichor on the ground, you’d think something far monstrous happened.

Ethan wasn’t sure how much blood was currently staining the pavement, but knew if someone stumbled upon this scene, they’d think he had just brutally murdered someone. That’d certainly give him the villainous reputation he’s looking for, but making people think he was some kind of psychotic killer might be too much too soon.

Crossworld Nodus - The Afterstory, Chapter 3 The Guitless Gang tries to mug Disc, but not only is he prepared for such an attack, he's also eager for something to take his mind off the awful day he was having. #WIPSnips
"Are you trying to mug me?" the man asked, a hint of a laugh in his voice.

"'Mug' is such an ugly word," Grayson responded. If he noticed that his intended victim wasn't scared of him, then he didn't show it. Maybe he thought the guy was just putting on a brave face. "I prefer the term-."

I was watching the guy like a hawk the moment I caught that smile. With my vision, I could catch things happening in the split seconds it takes for an activated light to illuminate a room. Yet, I was still caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the gun. One second, Grayson was giving his spiel about not being a mugger; the next, a revolver the size of a brick was shoved in his face.

"Was that term going to be "failing miserably"," the man asked, letting the grin blossom across his face. He held the revolver one handed and pointed it steadily at the wolf-man in front of him. The gun was almost the size of his forearm, yet he held the thing with such ease, there was no way he didn’t have training with it. "Cause I think that's the only thing that works here."

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 17 well - pool Ethan and Purebred fought and beat Poltergeist by pushing him underneath a falling pile of his levatating junk. #WIPSnips
“Oh, god…” a raspy voice said in horror. Leaning to the side, Ethan saw Purebred in her werewolf form staring at the mound of appliances in wide-eyed shock. “I-I killed him!”

“I’d argue he killed himself,” Ethan quipped. His words did nothing to calm down the wolf-girl as she grasped her head with her clawed hands and started hyperventilating. The villain held back the urge to roll his eyes over the cryptid’s reaction. He wasn’t judging her freakout, but now was not the time to panic.

They needed to get out of here, and fast! Despite the hour, their fight was pretty noisy. All it would take for one samaritan to overhear crashes and report them. The cops would be here any second, and they were the last people Ethan wanted to deal with, especially in the company of a Werewolf and a flattened corpse.

With one last glance at the rubble pile, Ethan was about to tell Purebred to get moving when he noticed something odd. The villain wasn’t an expert on biology, but if someone got crushed by an entire department store’s worth of goods, shouldn’t there be a pool of blood leaking out by now? His knowledge on the subject was based on violent and graphic video games, but it still seemed odd that the heap wasn’t even a little bloody.

“Purebred!” Ethan called out, making sure he was loud enough to reach the girl through her downward spiral. “Help me move this!”

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 26 prime - excellent Ethan's attack on the vampires ends with an uneasy ceasefire, curtosy of Vlad. #WIPSnips
"Despite this little… upset," Wade began through gritted teeth. "Ebenezer is still useful to us. As he pointed out, he's seen as a vigilante, so he's free to act out in the open. Perfect for dealing with our little pest problem." She shot an unkind look at Zoe, who tried to scooch behind Ethan to avoid her gaze.

The wukong narrowed his eyes but held his tongue. He knew Wade's words were more for her ego than to demean him, so he allowed her to say whatever petty thing she needed to justify going with Vlad's proposal. Though this did mean he'd be on his own when dealing with the werewolves, but he was already having to deal with those monsters by himself so there wasn't much difference.

"And besides," Wade added, her sneer now directed towards John. "Housing Mr. Anderson has become more trouble than he's worth. That's why we gave him to James in the first place." John said nothing, but he finally stopped staring at Ethan to glare at Wade.

"If Ebenezer wants to be his new caretaker so badly, then let's let him. We can wash our hands of the matter, and he can deal with any consequences that come after." Ethan still said nothing, not taking the obvious bait that Wade threw in front of him. He still needed to ask John about what the hell his deal was, but that could wait until after they properly escaped this place.

"Then we're in agreement?" Vlad asked loudly, clearly feeling the need to end things before the egos around him ruined the peace. No one said anything, they just looked at the two leaders. Ethan and Wade stared each other down in silence before Wade gave a begrudging nod, which Ethan copied in agreement.

"Excellent! And not a moment too soon!" Ethan looked over to Vlad to see he had taken his phone out. "Liam just reported that the Crusaders had moved. Perfect time to escort our guests home, which I will gladly handle personally."

Crossworld Nodus - The Afterstory, Chapter 1 delay - wait Disc goes open his day and manages his shop, but he's in a bit of a funk right now and the less successful nature of his business isn't helping matters. #WIPSnips
One quick elevator ride later, and I was on the ground floor of my building, where my shop, Varius Mechanicus, was stationed. I stepped out of the lift and let the wall containing a tool shelf slide back into place. After draping my coat on the back of my comfy chair, I walked to the front door, flipped the sign from “Closed” to “Open”, and sat behind my counter.

It would be at this point that I’d use the computer to summon an invention I was working on. It’d give me something to do while I waited for customers, but it also acted as a free sample of my capabilities. If someone walked into my shop and saw me fiddling with some kind of technological doodad, they’d immediately see I wasn’t just some shopkeeper, but an honest-to-god craftsman.

But today, I wasn’t in the mood. Instead, I just sat back in my chair and stared at my storefront, which only made my mood worse.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 13 Ethan breaks into the home of a wife-beating cop to give him a taste of his own medicine. #WIPSnips
“That fucking bitch!” Ethan watched as Cotton's face contorted in rage. His hands flew in the air, and he started stomping around the house. “After everything I’ve done for her, she fucking leaves?!”

He started ripping photos off the walls and throwing them across the room while yelling more obscenities. Ethan watched Cotton kick the trash can over and punch a hole in the wall. The villain simply stood by and silently observe the cop throw a tantrum and continue to wreck his home. He wasn’t sure what he was waiting for, but decided to stick around to see what would happen.

“And you!” Cotton whirled around and pointed at Ethan. “How fucking dare you stick your nose into other people’s business?!” The cop stomped towards Ethan and towered over the younger man, clearly trying to use their height difference to intimidate him. Ethan was of average height for his age, and Cotton was a good head taller than him. It might’ve worked if Ethan hadn’t easily knocked him out cold.

“What can I say?” Ethan began coldly. “I like giving abusers a taste of their own medicine.”

“‘Abuser’?!” Cotton snarled, his angry face twisting even further, which made him look like a rapid bulldog. “You think me showing my wife who’s boss is abuse?! I am the man of this house! It’s my job to look after my family, and if they mess up, it’s my job to correct them! If I don’t slap that bitch around whenever she fucks up, she’ll never learn!”

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 17 nation - country When Ethan meets Zoe again, she tells him about the werewolf pack she was stuck in. #WIPSnips
“They…” the werewolf said slowly. “They told me that they could help me… protect me. I believed them… I-I wanted to believe them… But they just wanted to use me. Just like everyone else. I was just-.”

“Alright,” Ethan interrupted. The she-wolf was hitting way too close to home with her story, and the Wukong had to silence her before she drove his inner Nice Guy insane. “I get it. They’re bad people. Is there any specific reason they turned you, or were they just building their forces for something?”

“The second one…” the girl muttered glumly. “I’m not that important to be singled out… I think they’re trying to take over the world.”

“Seriously?” Ethan asked skeptically. Of all the goals for a bunch of oversized dogs to have, having the most cliché bad guy goal just sounded silly.

“That or they want to make some kind of pro-werewolf country,” she added vaguely. “I don’t know. I stopped caring about what they said after a while.”

Crossworld Nodus - The Afterstory, Chapter 2 One of the Guiltless Gang, Ophir Jung, was a former con man that escaped to Maelstrom City after his protection racket was ruined. #WIPSnips
“Morning, Mal!” the voice of Ophir broke me out of my thoughts. I turned to stare at the rotund figure as he bounded his way towards me. He still wore that white collar and suspenders get-up to look fancy. Grayson said he looked like a banker from the 50s who lost his job and became homeless.

I made sure my face kept a neutral expression. I wasn’t sure what Ophir would do if he knew my true feelings for him, but I doubted it’d be pleasant. The best word to describe Ophir Jung was incel. According to Grayson, back in his old world, he ran a protection racket scheme that involved forcing women to join his harem.

I don’t know how it fell to pieces, but Ophir swears that he could’ve lived like a king if some meddlesome kid hadn’t poked his nose in his business.

“How’d you sleep?” he asked with what he thought passed as a friendly smile. The way he stared at my face was disconcerting, but the looks he gave me when he thought I didn’t notice were worse.

I never saw myself as pretty. Mainly because I was raised to be an unthinking soldier in my early years, so things like “attractiveness” and “femininity” were deemed irrelevant by my teachers. Ophir’s attention didn’t exactly fill me with confidence about my looks. Not only did I not value his opinions on beauty, but I could easily see him “settling” for me because he was desperate for female attention. And unfortunately for me, I was the only female around.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 8 After The Cleaner's attempted terrorism fails, he uses a flashbang to try to escape. #WIPSnips
“Dammit!” The Cleaner swore before diving into his backpack again. This time he pulled out what looked like a thermos, then removed something from it and threw it at Ethan’s feet. Now, the villain didn’t know what gadget the would-be terrorist used, but he knew the basic movements involved with using a grenade.

“Shit!” Ethan screamed. Acting on instinct, the villain swung his staff like a golf club and sent the object flying into the air. The people panicked and ran away like spooked chickens. They didn’t care if their routes took them into buildings or the street, so long as they got away from the explosive.

Ethan watched the bomb tumble into the air, which was a mistake. Instead of a fiery explosion, there was a flash of blinding light. Ethan recoiled as the gleam burned his eyes. His mask blocked some of the glare but the Wukong was still stunned. There were cries of surprise and pain, some of the peanut gallery got hit as well.

When Ethan could see again, he was greeted by the sight of the stragglers rubbing their eyes and moaning in discomfort. The Cleaner, however, was gone.

Crossworld Nodus - The Afterstory, Chapter 2 meltdown - crack Mal is pretending to be a regular girl for personal reasons, and that Grayson feels safe in trying to manipulate her into staying with the gang. #WIPSnips
“Not only would you, a poor defenseless girl, be out on your own again. But the hole you leave behind could never be filled. A member of our family just walked out on us with no warning… Can you imagine how much that would hurt?”

I clenched my fists so hard I was worried my bones would crack under the pressure. It was obvious what Grayson was trying to do. Gaslight, guilt-trip, general manipulation. It should’ve just rolled off my shoulders, but the things this cocky werewolf son-of-a-bitch was saying were hitting way too close to home. I had half a mind to bash the bastard’s snout into his face for what he said.

Instead, I dipped my head and whispered a quick: “S-Sorry.” I hoped the tremor in my voice made it sound like I was on the verge of tears rather than seething in murderous fury.

“I know you are, baby,” Grayson said smugly. “Just want to make sure you won’t do anything we’ll regret later.” He gave my shoulders one last “reassuring” squeeze before walking away.

I made my way to my tent as quickly as I could without stomping all the way there. It wouldn’t do for me to blow my cover by cracking the concrete floor.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 5 Ebenezer was having doubts about becoming a villain, but after getting a taste of vengeance, he decides to stick with it. #WIPSnips
Looking like an escaped mental patient, the scarecrow-like woman paced around the ruined husk of her car while muttering to herself. If anyone tried to talk to her she’d snap and screech at them until they ran off. One coworker tried to talk her down, which sent the woman into a hysterical rant that only ended when one of her flailing limbs smacked into the wreckage, sending Ms. Albert to the ground, clutching her hand and letting out a loud stream of inappropriate swears.

It was at that moment that Ebenezer did something he hadn’t done in a long time.

He giggled.

The sight of his hated teacher losing her mind over what he did filled him with such joy that he couldn’t help but laugh. There was a toxic quality to the mirth he felt, there was no denying that. But at that moment, Ebenezer couldn’t care less. He felt good. Yes it came from the suffering of another, but that person hurt him first, so they got what they deserved.

When he was done enjoying the show, Ebenezer took off and flew back home, feeling accomplished.

‘Maybe being a villain won’t be so bad after all,’ he thought.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 11 Ethan gets trapped in the Capito house and has to think of a way out that doesn't expose his powers. #WIPSnips
Ethan placed a hand over his mouth to muffle his breathing. A pointless gesture thanks to his mask, but the last thing he needed was for the Labbies to hear him start to panic. Ethan tried to reign in his growing terror, but as he stared at the metal wall, a familiar feeling of helplessness took root in his soul, and he felt a sudden desire to scream in despair.

‘Stay calm!’ He ordered himself. ‘You’re not helpless and they don’t know everything you can do!’ The goon started gloating about how great Neo Spectrum was, but Ethan wasn’t listening. Instead he sent out a distress signal to his clones. Every available bird clone was now perched on nearby houses and waiting for the cavalry to arrive. If the worst happened and Ethan had to face off a bunch of goons with blasters, he’d have his own backup.

With that safety net in place, the villain managed to cool his anxiety and start thinking clearly. No doubt the metal casing covered the entire house, but the thing wasn’t air-tight. The goal was to hold Ethan, not suffocate him, so there had to be a place where fresh air could come in. If Ethan could find that place, he could transform into a bug and crawl out of it, the same way he came in. It’d be an easy escape, but one Ethan shouldn’t take.

If the Labby was to be believed, Ethan Sun was now an enemy of Neo Spectrum. The boy didn’t know what that entailed, but he doubted things would end if he managed to escape. The gang would come after him, and probably have weapons specifically designed to hurt him. That’s what mad scientists did after all, make weird gadgets for specific purposes.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 11 Ethan gets trapped in a house by Neo Spectrum, so he decides to burn the house down to escape. #WIPSnips
The bottle had a cork blocking the entrance. Ethan didn’t have a corkscrew, but that wasn’t a problem. Simply grabbing the bottleneck, Ethan twisted his wrist and snapped the thing in half. Tossing the broken tube of glass aside, Ethan began dumping the contents all over the kitchen, making sure to soak anything that looked flammable.

That’s when a phone started ringing. But instead of Jack’s cell, this ringing came from a landline on the kitchen counter. Grabbing and opening a bottle of whiskey, Ethan moved to answer the phone while he continued pouring the alcohol.

“Hello?” Ethan answered casually.

“What the hell are you doing?!” the Labby screamed.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Ethan responded, acting like the goon was playing dumb. “I’m getting ready to set the house on fire.”

“Are you insane?! That’ll kill you too!”

“Are you sure about that?” Ethan asked smugly. “You said so yourself, you have no idea how I got into the house. You don’t know what I can do. Who’s to say I’m not fireproof?”

Crossworld Nodus - Chapter 3 After beating up the Guitless Gang, Disc gives Mal a smelling salt to help them avoid the Peacekeepers. #WIPSnips
“Here!” the stranger called out as he threw something at me. I caught it without thinking and found myself staring at a weird blue stick.

“What is this?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“A special smelling salt!” the stranger called out as he started running out of the alley. Despite being the victim here, he was bolting out of the back street like he was carrying stolen goods. “Use it on your friends to wake them up! Consider it payment for keeping me entertained!”

And just like that, he was gone. Leaving me with the guys that tried to mug him without so much as a backward glance.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 13 Ethan thinks that the best way to become a villain is to be an enemy of the cops. He goes to the house of Cotton, who is a wife-beater to attack him, but things get a little heated. #WIPSnips
“You won’t get away with this!” Cotton screamed as he ran into another room. “It doesn’t matter what you tell people! All my boys will see is that you attacked one of their own! They’ll be on your ass for the rest of your life!”

“I’m counting on it,” Ethan responded as he calmly stalked Cotton through his house. It was odd how calm Ethan found himself acting. He could feel his anger simmering underneath his skin, yet he didn’t feel like he was going to explode. For once, the anger was working with Ethan as he worked to slowly tear Cotton to pieces.

The villain’s response made the cop flinch slightly, and he redoubled his efforts to find a weapon. He started chucking furniture all over the place, causing them to either collapse or make more holes in the walls. Cotton made sure to throw the furnishings towards Ethan, either to attack him or block his way. Both were pointless as Ethan’s agility made dodging and sidestepping the appliances child’s play.

Crossworld Nodus - The Afterstory, Chapter 3 DIsc finds himself in the sights of Lucas Lopez, the CEO of Anything and Everything Industries. #WIPSnips
"Ah, Ephraim!"

I froze in my tracks. I only ever introduced myself as Disc to the people I talked to. Very few people in the Maelstrom knew my real name, and nearly all of them knew better than to use it. There was one man who thought he was the exception to that rule, and I was not in the mood to deal with him.

But regardless, I turned around to face the man with a fake friendly smile on my face.

"Mr. Lopez!" I exclaimed with exaggerated cheer. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" Lucas Lopez, CEO of Anything and Everything Industries, sat in the outdoor dining area of a Tomato Oasis--one of the few franchises with the guts or lack of foresight to open in Maelstrom City--and was smiling at me with a practiced look of fatherly warmth.

That look made me want to punch him in the face and run away screaming at the same time. Instead, I stood still with a polite grin on my face, thankful there was a fence separating us, even though either of us could easily step over the little thing.

"There's no need for the formalities," the older man laughed. "Please, just call me Lucas."

"I feel more comfortable being polite, Mr. Lopez," I replied with a bashful chuckle. "After all, we hardly know each other."

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 20 Ethan and Purebred find the lair of the werewolves with the help of Vlad. Their base of operations is a newly opened bakery. #WIPSnips
Looking at Grandma Mel’s Bakery, Ethan had even more trouble thinking of it as the secret hideout for a pack of werewolves. The place wasn’t decrepit, there wasn’t a sinister vibe hanging in the air, the building in front of them looked like a regular old bakery.

There was a window that displayed the baked goods, a flowery canopy over the front door, and a couple of tables outside where people could enjoy their fresh pastries when the weather was good.

With all the bright colors on the exterior, you’d be more inclined to mistake the place for a florist shop than a monster’s lair.

“I swear to God,” Ethan muttered darkly. “If Vlad is fucking with us, I’m going to test all my silver weapons out on him!”

“He’s not,” Purebred whispered. Ethan didn’t notice before, but the wolf-girl had stiffened up the moment they neared the bakery. She stared at the little shop as if it were the gate to Hell itself. “They’re here… I smell them…”

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 2 Ebenezer has to put up a lot in his life, which includes his father's warped sense of masculinity. #WIPSnips
Menelaus had also calmed down. Watching Fight Club had that effect on him, but seeing his son take his punishment without complaint also helped. The family patriarch was always happy to see his children respecting his authority. As Ebenezer got on his hands and knees to scrub the bathroom floors, his father passed by and surveyed him for a few seconds before leaving with a small smile on his face. In his younger years, Ebenezer had thought that meant he gained some form of approval from the older man; he knew differently now…

“A man takes what’s coming to him without question,” Menelaus had once said when Ebenezer had mustered up the courage to protest his penance. Strong words from a proud man, but it just confused Ebenezer. Menelaus would also talk about how a man had to stand up for themselves, and that was what Ebenezer was trying to do at the time.

The boy would get these moments of courage to question his father’s decisions and hopefully lead to a discussion that change his punishment to something that felt fair. But every time Ebenezer tried that, his father would shut him down and make the sentence worse. That one time Menelaus explained his reasoning for blocking any bit of defiance led to Ebenezer’s grounding going from one week to one month, and that was one of the tamer escalations.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 1 One of Ebenezer's teachers, Ms. Albert, doesn't give the boy any breaks despite being a top student. As far as she's concerned, all of her students are troublemakers just waiting for an excuse to act out. #WIPSnips
“Cutting it close, Mr. Giroux,” Ms. Albert stated coldly as the boy robotically stepped into the room seconds before the final bell screeched. Her beady black eyes were like pools of darkness that could tear you apart with a single gaze. Combined with her dry skin, thin body, and permanent scowl, Ebenezer’s science teacher had the look of a withered scarecrow brought to life.

“Sorry, Ms. Albert,” Ebenezer replied listlessly. The woman glared at her student as if his near tardiness was a personal insult to her. Ms. Albert was known for being harsh to the point of pointless cruelty. Treating a top student like Ebenezer with disdain for almost breaking the rules, might seem surprising, but to Ms. Albert, everyone was a potential delinquent.

Usually, her treatment would make Ebenezer want to lock himself in a closet for the rest of his life. But given the day he was having, her cold gaze was just a drop in Ebenezer’s bucket of suffering. The boy took his seat while silently wishing someone or something would just kill him on the spot or cause him enough pain that he could be distracted from the Hell he was trapped in.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 25 wedge - squeeze When Ethan fights Colbert, the older and experienced villain gains the upper hand in the fight and almost kills Ethan. #WIPSnips
That thought drove Ethan to put everything into his swings. He smashed Vigra into Colbert’s head again and again and again, the strikes growing more desperate as the man’s skull stubbornly refused to cave in. He couldn’t think of anything else to do, just hoped that committing to this violent act would get results.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work. With an angry choke, Colbert threw out his arms, and the next thing Ethan knew, he was tumbling through the air and crashing into the street. Despite landing on the unforgiving asphalt, Ethan wasn’t too damaged from the fall. He could’ve picked himself up easily, but the birdman didn’t give him that chance.

Suddenly, a hand was around Ethan’s neck, and he was slammed back into the ground with the force of a cannon blast. Opening his eyes, he saw Colbert glaring down at him with extreme hatred.

“That does it, you little shit,” the bird-man rasped angrily. The mask did a good job of covering his wounds, but it couldn’t soak up the blood, making the teacher look like someone had dumped a bucket of red paint over his head.

Colbert squeezed the wukong’s throat so hard that it not only deprived Ethan of oxygen, but it made the boy fear that his teacher would crush his neck with his grip alone. Not that Colbert was going to let Ethan die like that without a bit of payback, if his raised fist was any indication.

“No more mister ni-!” Ethan wasn’t sure what happened next. One second, Colbert was above him, ready to beat and/or strangle him to death. The next, he was gone, and the wukong could suddenly breathe again. There was a loud crash in the distance, but Ethan was too busy enjoying the air to care about it.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 12 Ethan first meets Vlad when he comes to collect Barrasso after Ethan beats her up. #WIPSnips
“What are you doing?” Ethan barked at him.

“Collecting a stray,” Vlad answered without hesitation.

“Stray…?” Ethan stared at the man as he lay out the large bag on the floor next to the unconscious woman. It was then that the boy finally noticed how unusual Vlad’s clothes were in the current weather. It was a warm autumn day, so a normal person wouldn’t need to be bundled up from head to toe. But a vampire would need Vlad’s ensemble to stay covered from the sun. “She’s with you?”

“She was,” Vlad corrected. He dragged Barrasso into the bag, and as the man started zipping it up, Ethan realised it was a body bag. “One day, Shelley here decided she deserved more than what she was getting and went out on her own.”

“Where are you taking her?”

“Home. There we’ll hold her, discipline her, and hopefully make her see the error of her ways. Though it shouldn’t be too hard, I’m sure the beating you gave shattered the arrogance that warranted this behavior.” Vlad closed the bag with Barrasso inside. Then he stood, but instead of picking up the bag, he simply turned to face Ethan. The villain noticed Vlad deliberately placed himself inbetween him and his fellow vampire. “I trust that won’t be an issue.”

Ethan was about to object, but stopped himself. He felt his body grow sluggish, the exhaustion from the battle was setting in, so it wouldn’t be the smartest move to pick another fight. And even if he did and won, what was Ethan going to do afterwards? It felt wrong to let Barrasso get taken by the other vampires, but Ethan didn’t have any alternatives to hold her, as detaining the vampiress was never part of his plan. He couldn’t imprison her in his base, which only left two options that Ethan refused to consider. Calling the police or killing her.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 6 When Ebenezer decides to stop doing his classmates' homework, they confront him at his home. #WIPSnips
“What do you want?” the double asked. Ebenezer had it speak neutrally but with a slight edge to his voice to imply the two of them weren’t welcome here. The boy’s poker lasted for only a few seconds, as Leanora suddenly lunged forward and slapped him across the face. Ebenezer himself felt no pain, but the act alone was enough to stun him. He looked at the girl in shock as he instinctively held the struck cheek.

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” the girl screamed, her fake calm was gone as she released her borderline rapid personality. Leanora barred her teeth in an animalistic snarl as she barked out her outrage. “Do you know how badly you almost screwed us?! We all could’ve gotten detention thanks to your little stunt you, selfish asshole!”

The moment of shock passed and Ebenezer’s own anger rose to the surface to overshadow his anxiety. It helped that the girl’s audacity to scream at him like he was the problem only angered him further. He glared at Leanora, and his clone followed suit, which surprised the blonde for a second before she returned to her previous scowl but with an extra helping of fury.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 21 rig - clothing Ethan keeps dealing with the vampire named Vlad. He's not sure why the vampire has an interest in him, but he tries to gleam information on his kind while they talk. #WIPSnips
“Good evening,” the vampire greeted casually. “May I come in?”

“It’s getting late, Vlad,” was Ethan’s response. He tried to act nonplussed despite the tension, but it made his words come out as snarky. “Shouldn’t you be crawling back to your coffin before the sun comes up?”

It was past 3 A.M., and the sun would be rising soon. Ethan didn’t know where Vlad lived but it seemed to be cutting it close for someone who was deathly allergic to sunlight. Briefly, the boy wondered if his coven lived nearby but dismissed the thought. His ex-neighbor Barrasso might’ve been arrogant, but she didn’t look dumb enough to live in the same neighborhood as her old gang.

“I assure you, I’ll be just fine.” Vlad gestured to his frame, which was covered head to toe in clothing. “I would prefer to talk inside, though, if that’s alright?”

“Do you really need my permission? Can’t you just walk in?” Ethan phrased it as a joke, but he genuinely wondered if the idea of vampires being unable to enter people’s homes without invitation was true or not.

And if it was true, did his factory base count as a home? The Cleaner definitely lived here before Ethan took over, but the villain himself didn’t live here so much as squatted in it from time to time.

“Of course I don’t,” Vlad said coolly. “But it’d be rude to just barge in unannounced."

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 7 Ethan accidentally saved a politician which doesn't help his goal to become a villain. #WIPSnips
“You have my thanks, young man!” the suit wheezed. “Honestly, the nerve of these ingrates! You walk back one promise, and these animals want to tear your head off! Honestly, if I didn’t need these inbreds’ votes, I wouldn't bother talking to them! They’re nothing but bottom-feeding savages!”

‘“Votes?”’ Ethan repeated, confused. Then had to suppress a groan when he pieced things together. ‘Oh God, did I just save a politician?!’ Ebenezer didn’t pay attention to politics, he had enough problems in his own life, and worrying about the rest of the world seemed pointless. The only thing he knew about politicians was unflattering pop culture references, which painted them all as slimeballs just itching for a bribe. Given the elitist rant this man was going on, those caricatures have some basis in fact.

Ethan wasn’t sure what to do here. He can’t just leave the guy while he has a positive opinion of Ethan Sun. But the villain was also too drained to think of a way to break it, and he wasn’t ready to just attack someone yet. Maybe if Ethan just left, the guy would think him rude and forget all about the rescue.

“I need to go,” Ethan said, cutting off the suit as he started talking about budget cuts. Without waiting for a response, Ethan turned from the man and walked down the alleyway.

“Oh! Going after that bastard? Good! Make sure to finish him off! Nobody will miss him!” His words sent a shiver up the boy's spine. The idea of murder had never crossed his mind, and he definitely wouldn’t be killing anyone any time soon. But would that change? Would Ethan Sun have to kill someone at some point?

The villain shook his head to clear the chilling thoughts as he quickly left the politician behind. He mentally added Murder to the list of lines not to cross as he rode his staff back up to the rooftops. He tried to take his mind off the disturbing topic by looking up ways to clean blood off of metal on his phone, but he couldn’t focus.

Crossworld Nodus - The Afterstory, Chapter 1 As an adventurer, Disc never went anywhere without his gear, even if he was just going down to his shop. #WIPSnips
In stark contrast to the rest of my place, my bathroom was a bit more unique, mostly thanks to the strange metal cabinet that I added to it. My apartment didn’t come with a washing machine, so I had to make one. The metal cabinet acted as a washer and dryer for all kinds of clothes, though I really only used it to clean one set of clothes at a time

After showering, I opened the cabinet and pulled out a snow white shinobi shozuku. Well, I called it a shozuku, but I’m pretty sure it was called something else in Tolkien. It covered most of my body and came with wrap-like gloves for my hands, feet, and lower face. It originally had a hood, but I never needed it, so I had it removed.

Once I got dressed, I activated one of the gear’s enchantments and left the bathroom. Instead of walking out as a highly visible ninja, I left my bathroom wearing a set of brown overalls, an orange t-shirt, and black worker boots. My footwear even clomped on the floor realistically as I moved through my apartment. After grabbing my coat, goggles, favorite beanie, and a few other essentials, I was ready to start my day.

Walking over to the grandfather clock, I pulled a lever concealed in the clockwork and stepped back as the wall split open to reveal a hidden elevator. It was a very unnecessary addition to my home, but I thought it was cool, and it was more convenient than the building's original staircase.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 4 When Ebenezer first meets the Wukong, Klara explains that many of them don't Mt. Huaguo because its safer there than the outside world. #WIPSnips
“Don’t mind them,” Klara said afterward. “They’re always excited to hear the stories of newcomers.”

“But I’m nothing special…” Ebenezer muttered.

“You are to them,” Klara replied. “Most of the Wukong here don’t leave this place, so anyone from the outside is a novelty they aren’t going to pass up.”

“They can’t leave?” the boy asked with growing concern.

“It’s not like that,” Klara quickly reassured him. “It’s just that most feel safer here than in the outside world.”

	“Why is that?”

“The world isn’t kind to things they don’t understand,” Klara said with bitter matter-of-factness. “Most Wukong struggle to fit in after they’ve uncovered their true nature.”

“How come? I know my hometown isn’t safe for Gifted, but there has to be other places they can live in.”

“It’s not that simple,” Klara sighed. “Bucking tradition and social norms is in our blood. The Wukong don’t do well with conformity and most communities don’t appreciate our brand of willfulness.” Klara’s words struck Ebenezer deeper than she probably meant to. Wukong are naturally rebellious, does that mean his anger at his life only came about after discovering his powers, or have they always been there, and becoming a Wukong has just made them worse?

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 12 Before fighting Barrasso, Ethan tries to shut off the lights of in her warehouse base to make sure none of her hostages can see him. #WIPSnips
Ethan crawled underneath the door and entered the closed-off space. The area was smaller than he expected, and the room was barely bigger than a walk-in closet. Though it made sense in a way, how much electrical equipment did one warehouse need?

The room was spartan in appearance, no posters or anything, just a beige-walled room filled with metal boxes and tubes attached to the wall. Ethan had no idea what any of them did, and he couldn’t tell which one was the fuse box. Shifting back to his human form, the boy started opening panels to see what the boxes were for, but it didn’t help Ethan all that much.

He had a general idea of what to look for, thanks to the circuit breaker back home, but that was also no help. Ethan found what he was looking for, only for there to be two boxes with switches that could be the switchbreaker.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 2 After Ebenezer gets suspended, his father yells at him for screwing up so badly. Ebenezer never gets a chance to defend himself, but it wouldn't matter if he did. #WIPSnips
“Suspended,” Menelaus spat. “How did that happen?!” Ebenezer didn’t speak, and didn’t even think of defending himself. Menelaus didn’t want to hear excuses, no matter how justified they were.

When he thought something was wrong he wanted to scream at the offenders to make sure they knew they screwed up and how much their life was worse now. Any other details concerning the accused’s lack of accountability were to be considered later, if at all. Ebenezer knew Menelaus didn’t care about how the suspension happened, only that it did and how it was going to cause issues for them.

“Do you have any idea how this is going to affect your chances to get into college?!” the older man growled. “Why am I paying for you to go to school for if you're just going to fuck around and cause trouble!” If he hadn’t broken down in class today, Ebenezer might have collapsed in tears then and there. Luckily his soul was too exhausted to break again.

Yet, his father’s words still stabbed into the fresh wounds from earlier that day. He tries so hard to make everyone happy and this is the thanks he gets. One slip-up, one bad day, and he’s treated like a waste of space. Ebenezer suddenly felt tired, like he was forced to stay awake for the past two days.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Chapter 5 When Ebenezer puts together his villain costume, he looks for something to check himself out with and ends up scaring himself by accident. #WIPSnips
Creeping into the streets, Ebenezer looked around for some sort of reflective surface while also keeping an eye out for civilians. The boy was not ready to come out as a villain yet and didn’t want to deal with people until then. He hoped it was late enough at night not to run into somebody, which was why the boy jumped out of his skin to suddenly see a masked hoodlum right next to him.

Letting out a cry that sounded like a drunk making baboon noises, Ebenezer leaped back and pulled out his staff. He readied himself to defend himself and saw the assailant had done the same, even pulling out his own metal stick.

It took longer than it should have for Ebenezer to realize he wasn’t facing some shadowy figure, but the very reflective surface he was looking for. Specifically a shop window that was illuminated by a street lamp. It gave the boy the full body view he wanted, but Ebenezer was too focused on not being seen to notice.

After a moment of feeling mortified, Ebenezer put away his weapon and slowly approached the window. He stared at the masked man in front of him in silent awe. Despite his doubts, Ebenezer had to admit that he was intimidating in his villain costume. It was simple and made only of casual clothes, but the mask made him look like a proper threat, especially as he stood silently in the dark.

Would he have to stay quiet and only commit crimes in the night to be an effective villain, or was this enough for now?
