we wanted something, we bought it, if we didn’t like it, we moved on. It was incredible.

I was advising CEO’s and CPO’s at Palo Alto, Cisco, gigamon, imperva, fastly, Akamai, Aqua, Redlock, Arbor, Signal Science, Perimter X, every CASB company, god this list goes on regarding cybersecurity product strategies and they were building products for us that eventually became GA products

from July 2013 to the end of 2017 we demoed, installed and fully operated at CMMI 4 over 100 different cybersecurity products and kept maybe 15 of those. I was working my ass off and it was so much fun.

We got into a massive lawsuit with Stealth Security because I told my CTO that shit would break everything to hell but he wanted it and stealth lied to him and said some stuff was possible that it absolutely could not do lmfao

I got to be a product advisor to aqua security like shit, 18 months before they came out of stealth. Container scanning automation in CICD pipelines in gosh January 2014 I think?

my CISO and I worked every year from Christmas to New Year’s Eve like 14 hours a day lighting up our cybersecurity vendors getting PO’s in by midnight on New Year’s Eve. We were working with start ups still in stealth mode buying security products before they were even known to the public.

every year for seven years my CTO would text me on Christmas Eve, tell me to enjoy Christmas morning and to call him on Christmas afternoon for my yearly Christmas present which was to spend several million dollars of his budget by New Year’s Eve on whatever cybersecurity tooling we needed lol.

if you make me write PowerPoints and toss me off into the most politically charged oppositional personality problems that are solely due to lack of maturity and unwillingness to get along then you are gonna have to pay me a LOT.

they had me pretty cheap for the first several years but they gave me a massive budget every year to do whatever fuck I said needed to be done and gave me full support and access to whoever I needed to get it done.

it was all mutual respect and high trust, I had to earn that seat at the every day and had to know every single aspect of how that company ran and my solutions HAD to be exceptional. I did that and they gave me the world in return

I was allowed into any meeting I wanted and everyone in the company was told that if I come into the meeting to let me have the last 5 minutes and to do everything I said to do. These engineers and developers were all smart as hell, I had to work to keep up and they took my ass to school everyday

we developed cyberfraud signaling channels integrated into our mobile apps and had 850 million signal channels globally feeding into a Hadoop cluster for cyberfraud activity detection and response. In 2017.

I had a job for 7 years where my CISO hired me to tell the CTO and CEO “give me 10 million dollars a year and unfettered access to the entire company and tell them they have to yes to everything I say has to be done” It was awesome we built some incredibly bad ass cybersecurity capabilities.

the part of my job where I have been trained to keep my panic on the inside because people need to feel safe when bringing things to me when they are panicking on the outside. I’m panicking on the inside. It’s gonna be okay.

“No organization posses a single complete view of the threat landscape; each captures only a fraction of the available signals, the collective benefit created through trusted information sharing exceeds what any organization can achieve independently” This is so critically important *sobs*

ideally you understand what a data pipeline is and are building signal fabrics into shared data pipelines

there are several mentions of signal cross correlation and every defender group needs massive support from the highest levels of leadership to at the very least federate high quality signals across secure operations quadrants and stop being adversarial to each other’s perceived capability and skill

“Beyond the scope of this report” is “the impact of AI on human psychology and decision making” Well that’s just great because that is what I am currently designing a solution around lol. I’m always working on “out of scope” stuff lolsobs

I will say this: more and more the basics of running a program are stepping in geopolitical poo and that will continue to get more precarious for cybersecurity folks just trying to cover the most basic due diligence parts of their jobs. (Looking at you Microsoft)

this where me being a charm build with impeccable credibility and integrity pays a fuckload of dividends because every time there is seemingly intractable conflict I get tossed into it and I find an answer where everyone’s bellyaches are heard and I don’t stop pressing on the hurts until we solve it

I say “we’d tagged and bagged” but really I did that by myself. I don’t want to brag, but yeah I was doing that myself running search queries on access log patterns using splunk query language while understanding in my mind the entirety of how Expedia worked by key/value/path/parameters alone
