So, yeah, I'm not surprised. If I felt I had to choose between my life and choosing not to inflict a debt that can't feasibly be settled within a human lifespan on a family member, I might choose the first option. And I might want to make sure it was a meaningful choice in the only way I had left.

Yeah, I do understand. I will say, though, that what they're doing is far worse. It's creating a veil as thin as a razor's edge and then saying, "We're just capitalists! We aren't doing anything wrong." No, you aren't doing anything ILLEGAL. Those are two very different things.

Exactly. Some people learn how to do this in a horribly wrong way. Instead of expanding our categories or understanding of the way things are, they just create sinkhole dismissals. And then everything they are too lazy to try to understand gets tossed in there.

The reason they see it this way is because what they truly see when they see resistance is a threat. They've convinced themselves, and all those that follow them, that any dissent, real or perceived, is a danger, so they urge response in the only method they know—violence, cruelty, and inhumanity.

The poor thing doesn't notice him as he advances alongside it until he begins to recite the Words of healing he has used so many times before. Words to knit the scattered pieces of this creature's soul back together.

...Not resentment. Worse. Guilt. He wasn't strong enough then to say what he had wanted to. What his friend had needed to hear. Guilty of selfishness enough to believe that he could have everything without giving anything of himself in return. He watched him leave, hurt. Guilt, and now atonement.
