I made a deliberate choice to run differently: outside the two major parties, without money from millionaires, billionaires, corporate PACs, or lobbyists. I knew it meant fewer resources and a financial disadvantage. I made that choice anyway—and I’m proud I kept it. Learn more at www.TyPinkins.com

My entire adult life has been spent in public service. During my 21 years in the U.S. Army, I learned to live by a simple set of values we called LDRSHIP: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. They still guide me today. www.TyPinkins.com

Election after election, our politics is framed as a choice between the same two options: Republican or Democrat. Red or blue. Democracy should be about giving voters more choices, not convincing them to settle for the least worse out of the same two options that got us in the mess we are in.

Why is @mississippitoday.org, which is supposed to be a nonprofit newsroom, working so hard to erase Independents from the conversation? They won’t host debates. They crown candidates before a single vote is cast. And they ignore the fastest-growing voting bloc in America. I'm calling it out.
