but, but... Shining city on the hill? American exceptionalism? Now you're telling me that's all lies? Americans without their holy words (e plebnista) of goodness and righteousness are all just assholes believing their own lies? Huffing their own farts and calling it ambrosia?

Image from the Star Trek episode "The Omega Glory" showing the savage but dignified chief of the Yangs (enemies of the Kohms) with his hand over his heart saluting the American flag and reciting his garbled version of the Pledge of Allegiance.

During a ceremony to celebrate the Yang victory, Kirk and Spock, discussing the Yang culture, connect the names Yang and Kohm with "Yankee" and "Communist". Spock then conjectures that the history of Omega IV had closely paralleled that of Earth until the former was devastated by a biological war that Earth had avoided. This hypothesis is confirmed when William produces a very old American flag, along with ancient documents from which he recites the Pledge of Allegiance in a garbled accent. The Yangs are shocked when Kirk chimes in to recite the end of the Pledge.

After a traffic accident, 52-year-old civil servant Kenzaburou Tondabayashi (large picture, background) awakens to find he's become Grace Auvergne (center foreground), a duke's daughter, and more importantly the villainess of an otome game. Not wanting to get in the way of the happy endings of the young characters around him, Grace sets out to play the role of the villain, but whether it's due to Kenzaburou's memories of being an affectionate parent getting in the way or not being able to remember those pesky foreign names properly, it ends up being a lot harder than it looks...
