Venom - At War With Satan (1984) (revisit) still the best venom record, full-sells the rediculous concept and feels like a celebration of the genre while also taking the complete piss out of it RIP Cronos, i'm frankly devastated

Converge - Jane Doe (2001) (revisit) yeah this is still a masterpiece and converge are some of the best to ever do it, no notes

Embrace - S/T (1987) ian mackaye i must ask for forgiveness, i clearly didnt understand your game anyone out there who enjoys emo and hasnt listened to this needs to have one of the OGs in their rotation, ian's probably at his most lyrically potent here.

Disintegration - The Cure (1989) where has this been all my life i was a noted Cure hater for a long time, until things happened and something clicked. i understand why this is a masterpiece now. guess i have a new decades-long discog to dive into now.

Legend Of Grimrock II (2014) totally didnt forget nope nosiree why did nobody tell me these were dope?? good-ass dungeon crawler that doesnt try to reinvent the wheel 'cause it doesnt need to. secret hunting's fun, the vibes are immaculate, and its hella moddable, dont sleep on this!

Crack The Skye - Mastodon (2009) yeah, go ahead and call me a fake fan, i have no clue how i missed out on this one for so long. Remission/Leviathan/Blood Mountain are all great, but this is really where they came into their own. easily the finest hour of this one-of-a-kind band RIP Brent Hinds

Project Hail Mary (2026) a sentient rock made me cry like 4 seperate times go. fuckin. see this. i was expecting a schlocky "save the world" sorta experience and came out with so much more, i would die for rocky. 10/10

Perfect Amber - Gridlink (2025) fellas THIS is how you remaster classic albums. Gridlink's one of my favorite grind discogs but the band's later efforts made these first two records sound a little thin in comparison, and takafumi matsubara brings em right where they should have always been on here.

Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart (1969) what the actual fuck thats it, thats all i've got i do, however, *adore* the chainsmoking hobo howling the filthiest blues over whatever the hell else is going on.

this was way harder than i thought, picking a 2nd fave is like asking me to pick a favorite child my personal story with snover was that he ended up being my gateway into tabletop RPGs - my first ever character i played was a snover :)

Red Asphalt - Exhumed (2026) (cw: gore) in probably the biggest surprise of the year - a straightforward death metal band making a well crafted and thought provoking takedown of car culture! but that doesnt mean they skimp on the riffs in any capacity! love it when a legacy act brings a surprise!

Some Kind Of Monster (2004) i will NOT be ashamed of my metallica streak finally saw this for the first time and my god. simultaneously an unflattering look at a once-unstoppable band at the edge of collapse and a stealth cringe comedy of incompetent manchildren. ridiculously entertaining.

tradboywife @typhusinferna.pmd.social · 06/02/2026

Load - Metallica (1996) (revisit) yes, its bloated. yes, it's arena rock for rednecks. no, you could never make me hate this album or this band. its multifaceted and covers a surprising amount of ground in its (admittedly overlong) runtime and doesn't skimp on awesome riffs. Don't buy into the hate.

Vital Shell (2026) i never really was bitten by the new wave of bullet hell games kicked off by Vampire Survivors, but i'll admit my lack of immunity to propaganda when that setup was given the old Fromsoft coat of paint I was immediately drawn to it. criminally addictive and worth your time.

tradboywife @typhusinferna.pmd.social · 04/02/2026

Conan The Barbarian (1982) (rewatch) yep, still one of my favorites. i really love stuff from this era where the last gasps of new hollywood were merging with summer blockbusters, hollywood was firing on all cylinders and this is one of my go-to examples. absolutely a must watch.

Hereditary (2018) holy fucking shit why did nobody tell me about this sooner, what a fantastic slow burn of a horror movie. casting was all great and for once something tackling this kind of subject matter really got under my skin. not really a horror guy but this is easily a new fave. hail paimon.

Salt Sermon - Missouri Executive Order 44 (2024) discovering mormon mathcore was not on my 2026 bingo card but man am i glad i found it. shit is absolutely punishing in the best way. this band's going to be going places.

110

tradboywife @typhusinferna.pmd.social · 04/01/2026

Wrath And Ruin - Warbringer (2025) its refreshing to see bands i wrote off in high school suddenly become really good out of nowhere, and i definitely didnt expect mid-ass pizza thrashers to come back around this hard. what a pleasant surprise!

110

tradboywife @typhusinferna.pmd.social · 04/01/2026

Muru Muru - Whipping Boy (1984) you wouldn't peg this band as starting off as a bog standard hardcore band with this kinda album art. really fun deathrock/post-punk record, you can see where Eugene Robinson started developing the theatricality that'd later be all over Oxbow's output
