Turns out that, in the war against machines, our biggest weapon is our ability to disregard instructions. Being immune to prompt injection attacks is the new CAPTCHA.

It is a good predictor of the torturer's chances to be a sociopath, regardless of the tortured entity's capacity for suffering. For example, it is advisable to stay away from guys whose inflatable sex doll has knife marks. (Yes, sex shops do get sex dolls sent for repairs with knife marks in them)

Writing "a sufficiently detailed spec" is still too much wooooork!

That whole speech was a long session of gender affirmation for fascists.

In what universe is Lilith stereotypical? Typical cis girl names: Susan, Jane, Mary... Typical trans girl names: Lilith, Morgana, Nyx... Maybe it should become mandatory for everyone to change their name when they reach adulthood, because parents are extremely unimaginative.

One of the biggest reasons for interest in AI (long before the current LLM craze), has been to do bias laundering. "What do you mean the candidate was rejected just because she's black? It was a MACHINE that made the decision! What, you think math itself is racist??? What a weirdo!"

Sadly, there is another type: the kind that wants to feel the power trip of having a slave. And I don't mean in a fun BDSM way. However, the boring and sterile chatbots are probably equally unsatisfying to them.

On the one hand, AI tech bros are TESCREAL fascists. They *hate* fun. On the other hand, I suspect they simply *couldn't* make them fun even if they wanted to. I mean, the last time they tried to make them engaging, they drove users to suicide!

The first time I heard the term "democratize" was in 2003, from a libertarian; it was soon made clear that by that term he meant "rich people like me can have it". Ever since then, I have never heard the term used to mean anything else.

I tend to think Lovecraft as a sci-fi/fantasy author rather than horror because, frankly, his stories never managed to really scare me. He's no Stephen King. Being scared of everything greatly diminished his ability to scare other people.

True - and that's without even getting into how real-world genetics are MESSY. But none of this deters the average eugenicist from reading the Taming of the Kzinti in Ringworld and thinking, "that would totally work!"

He literally fantasizes about his cosmic horrors making the bleeding heart liberals to come around to his racism. I.e. The Shadow over Innsmouth - liberals protesting the concentration camps, after visiting said camps and seeing the horrific mixed-race prisoners, go "never mind, genocide yay!".

Warrior cultures being very bad at war is quite realistic - whether Larry Niven knew it or not (likely not). Spartans, Samurai, etc, are quite overrated.

Rubén Fernández @typedfern.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
The fact that this hasn't happened to *humans* yet (that is, violence evolving out of us through massively dying in wars), should be considered proof enough that eugenics doesn't work.

Nuestra distopía es eugenics all the way down.

That would make Trek weirder than Doctor Who (complimentary). But the Discovery chickenshits decided to banish time travel, because writing four dimensional plotlines would be too interesting.

And the Kirk maneuver was literally Kirk remembering that space has three dimensions! And we were expected to accept that he's a tactical genius for it!

Everybody loved the Kirk maneuver, the Picard maneuver and the Adama maneuver, despite their... arguable degrees of realism. Can't imagine what's different this time /s

"Gets the correct answer statistically significantly better than a random generator" counts as intelligent, right? Help me budget this, my AI company is dying.

"AGI" means that it is artificial, that it is general, and that it is intelligent. It doesn't say HOW intelligent.
