Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 11hMan, V/H/S Mixtape was... not great. I started watching it yesterday and got 5 minutes in before I had to shut it off. I was not expecting the GWAR stuff. The actual segments were fine. RZA's was the best by far. Everything else felt kind of like retreads of past V/H/S segments. 2/5 Stars 000
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 14hFlanagan knows horror backwards & forwards. He knows how to do quick jump scares & long drawn out frights. He can do them front & center or in the background. But most of all, he knows how to write good characters. Characters you root for & mourn. I'd love to see his take on Nightmare on Elm Street. 000
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 14hHe was signed to create a Hellraiser show for HBO and make a trilogy of Exorcist movies for Morgan Creek. The HBO show has seemingly be shelved and Exorcist: Believer was considered a disappointment both critically and financially which lead to Flanagan being brought in to make a new movie. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 14hMike Flanagan is who Hollywood thought David Gordon Green was supposed to be. I mean no disrespect to Green. I love his Halloween trilogy. H40 is my second favorite film in the franchise after the original. But after the massive success of 2018, Hollywood ran to him to revitalize horror. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 10/10/2026@mikeflanaganfilm.com Was the very ending/final scene of Carrie a callback to the ending of 2002 Carrie? Gave me flashbacks to watching it and waiting for the follow up TV show. 000
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Flanagan is a massive King fan & loves to incorporate different elements from across King's Dominion to his stories. Making it clear that Carrie is not alone (as well as a mention of The Shine) is such an interesting tease for what is to come. I hope this does well & we get to see what's next. 000
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026And then there are the changes. The addition of Ralph White and the circumstances of how Carrie comes to join Ewen High is a nice change. But the biggest change has to be the inclusion of the other psychic characters which will seemingly lead into the next 2 seasons that Flanagan has planned. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Rahul Kohli & Tim Bagley were all amazing in their roles. The updating of the story with things like social media & school shooter drills and such was a very nice addition. And again, I cannot compliment Summer H. Howell's performance enough. Her Carrie is amazing. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Every time she had a scene with her father berating her, I felt bad for her. But then she would turn around and focus her hurt feelings on someone else like Brooklyn or Carrie and become more of the villain. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026Perhaps it is the fact that this series has 8 episodes to unpack the story but this version also made me feel bad for Chris Hargensen. She makes all the wrong choices and is generally not a great person. But she is a person with real problems that lead her to making terrible choices. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I watched the first 5 episodes yesterday & finished the show today. I finally have a version of Carrie that I love. The cast is great. Especially Summer H. Howell. She is the perfect Carrie. Samantha Sloyan plays probably the most sympathetic version of Margaret White in any telling of the story. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026When it was announced that they were making a Carrie TV series for Amazon, I was skeptical. But they also announced that Mike Flanagan was making it so that meant it was a must watch. I have loved everything the man has made. My favorites are Hush and Midnight Mass. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 09/10/2026I have read Stephen King's Carrie & seen all the adaptations including The Rage: Carrie 2. It has never been a story that I have loved. The novel is good. The Brian De Palma film is good. I have a soft spot for the 2002 made-for-TV version because I love Angela Bettis. And the 2013 version is fine. 100

Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Second, go in a new direction with Freddy. I have seen a few actors campaigning to be the new Freddy. And they are good. But they are simply channeling/imitating Robert Englund. Don't. Take cues from the OG but do your own thing. Much like his form, maybe Freddy is losing his sense of self. 000
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Freddy has been a being of dreams for so long that he doesn't remember what he looks like. Maybe his form/face is constantly changing. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 05/10/2026With the recent announcement that Paramount is making a new Nightmare on Elm Street movie, I have two different requests/ideas. First, don't reboot or remake it. The Freddy of the new movie is the same Freddy from '84 to FvJ. Maybe he looks different but that is because he has lost his form. 100

Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026It was the salesman confused as hell as to what happened. I apologized and explained that I thought it was spam. Later, I clicked the link thinking it was that survey he had mentioned. It was a video of him thanking me for my business 🤦... and reminding me of the survey. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Cut to today when I get a text from an unknown number with a random link. I get these occasionally and they are always scammers trying to get info/spread a virus/whatever. I usually reply Fuck off/Fuck off and die because FUCK SCAMMERS. So I replied w/ the latter only to get a call from said number. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026But my OCD/Autism/whatever makes it so that I want my phone as clean as possible. I hate notification badges and I delete call logs and text logs that I no longer use. So a couple days ago, I deleted my text thread with the salesman. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I was an asshole today and feel shitty about it. Last week, I bought a new car. The salesman was cool and helped me get the loan. He even called to let me know that they had the spare key for me. He has texted me several times to check up on me and remind me that Hyundai will be sending me a survey. 100

Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The only halfway decent thing about it is Matthew McConaughey's unhinged performance. And that is no where near enough to save the film. Hell, near the end "The Boss" shows up to tell them that they are doing a terrible job instilling horror. And then he apologizes for the subpar experience. 000

Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 21/09/2026And I like the scene where Michael stalks Freddie who is also dressed like Michael. The visual of a second Shape stalking the first is great. And Busta Rhymes's delivery is really funny. 000
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I like the concept of a movie set almost entirely in The Myers House. I like the idea of a character being guided around via someone watching cameras to avoid the killer. Depending on the lighting, I like the mask. It sucks in direct light. But it is good in shadows and lightly lit. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Finally got around to #Halloween Resurrection. The worst movie in the franchise by far. Not only does it shit on the amazing ending of H20. It is also a very mediocre slasher in general. Even the opening credits are generic. But there are a few things I like about the movie. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 20/09/2026I'm glad that Resident Evil is getting good reviews & did well at the box office. I'm seeing it on Wednesday. But I do find it funny how the initial trailer was met w/ hate for not being more like the game. Meanwhile, they literally adapted RE 1 & 2 in Welcome to Raccoon City and no one watched it. 010
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I've been doing a #Halloween rewatch and tonight was H20. This was my first time watching the 4K Shout Factory release and I noticed something. Laurie stabs Michael 6 times before he falls off the balcony. Just like Loomis shot him 6 times before he fell of the Doyle balcony. Nice. 🎃 001

Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 10/09/2026All of that brings me to the new film and my anthology idea. We already have 3 timelines. Why not give the franchise to new up-and-coming filmmakers to make zombie films set in the RE universe? Similar to what Evil Dead has been doing since 2013. Zombies. Umbrella Corp. Raccoon City. Make a movie. 000
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Being released in post pandemic 2021 when theaters were struggling, probably didn't help either. It's only now in 2026 that theaters are on track to meet 2019 numbers. 100
Sam @type40sam.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Nearly doubling your budget isn't bad. But compared to the previous films which all had similar or slightly higher budgets & all broke $100 million with the last making over $300 million, it was a disappointment financially. 100
