Here at @cloudfour.com, we do a lot of design and prototyping in the browser via @11ty.dev (or should I say #BuildAwesome??) At the next free, virtual #Eleventy Meetup (March 12, 9am PDT), I’ll be sharing some of my favorite little helpers for quick and easy placeholder content: 11tymeetup.dev

Title slide from my presentation, featuring an illustration of three doofy-looking possums, one floating thanks to Eleventy’s trademark balloon. The title reads “Little Dummies: Simple FPO Content Helpers”

And here’s an embarrassing story of the time I almost stiffed the book’s creator 🫣

At this year's Rose City Comic Con, I decided I would commission a sketch from Stan Sakai, one of my favorite cartoonists ever! Stan asks, "What would you like?" and I excitedly respond "Space Usagi!"

But I was so transfixed by watching him draw that instead of handing money to him, I put it in back in a random pants pocket.

Thankfully Stan politely reminded me before I walked off! Stan says, "Um... I don't think you paid me yet..." (Signed Sep 8, 2018 with apologies to Stan Sakai)

My Steam Deck’s left joystick stopped acknowledging the rightmost direction. It's out of warranty, repair was quoted at $125-185. 😓 But Valve sells first-party replacements through iFixit for $20. Took my time carefully following the guide, now it’s good as new again! 💪

Before repair: Holding the left joystick all the way right resulted in input barely off the dead zone.

Steam Deck open, replacement joystick at the ready, crossing my fingers that I don't mess it up.

After repair: Holding the joystick all the way to the right registers correctly again!

How it feels having designed three games for walled gardens that no one can play anymore 🥲 www.gocomics.com/calvinandhob... #comics

Panel 1: Calvin shows Hobbes a normal looking Snowman. "*Any* dumb kid can build a snowman, but it takes a genius like me to create *art.*"

Panel 2: Calvin becomes more animated as speaks. "This snow sculpture transcends corporeal likeness to express deeper truths about the human condition! This sculpture is about grief and suffering!"

Panel 3: "One look at the tortured countenance of this figure confirms that the artist has drunk deeply from the cup of life! This work shall endure and inspire future generations!"

Panel 4: Both characters are silent as they notice the snowman has quickly melted in the sun while Calvin was monologuing.

Panel 1: Nancy peeks at their friend (lounging on a couch) through an open window. The friend asks "What are you doing here?!"

Panel 2: Nancy scowls, saying "What, I'm not *allowed* to wonder why you're not in school?"

Panel 3: Close-up of the friend looking irritated as Nancy continues speaking from off panel: "I'm not *allowed* to come to your house uninvited and walk around until I see you through one of the windows?"

Panel 4: Nancy is shown clumsily crawling through the open window ("crunch," "crash") as she continues speaking: "I'm not *allowed* to — oops, hang on — *allowed* to — whoops, my bad"

Sometimes it’s fun to experiment with using fewer outlines.
