shut up and take my money
From the My Chemical Romance store, a thumbnail of an upcoming Black Parade One Step release. A graphic shows the vinyl packaging, that it's black vinyl. Text below reads: "The Black Parade (20th Anniversary one Step Audiophile Edition) 180G 2LP", "$124.98 USD", then a button that reads "Sign Up for Early Access". This is way too much money for a record, but One Step pressings slap and I will gladly buy this the moment I'm able to even though I already have a picture disc version of this album. I have a problem.

The latest Ta-Nehisi Coates piece in Vanity Fair is, of course, excellent.
This resonance was not appreciated in 2024. A party that was deeply identified with destroying apartheid within its borders attempted to win by ignoring apartheid abroad. It did not work. "There was an underestimation of what was really afoot and how much it meant to so many people from many different walks of life," says Pressley. "And I would say especially the younger generation. And I do believe it is why so many young people just did not participate and stayed home."
There is another way.

This is 100% valid CSS I just used. The supports is because color-typed attr doesn't have quite the browser support I need right now. Pretty cool.
@supports (x: attr(x type(*))) {
  a {
    background-color: attr(
      data-bg type(<color>),
      var(--color-accent)
    );
  }
}

This is completely cooked brain shit right here. Imagine thinking creative expression should be "efficient".
Text that reads: "Ideogram - A generative AI startup on a mission to make creative expression universally accessible, fun, and efficient."

Just got the Odyssey 3LP soundtrack in the mail. It’s lovely.
The Odyssey soundtrack vinyl box set — three translucent gold/amber marbled LPs spread out above the gatefold sleeve, which shows the film's Trojan Horse beach scene. Music by Ludwig Goransson, film by Christopher Nolan. Laid out on a colorful quilt.

lol same, my preferred podcast for this is Plain English with Derek Thompson. from www.theredhandfiles.com/how-do-you-s...
A snippet from a Red Hand File that reads; "I go to bed around midnight, but before I have time for any blue glow, dwelling on fragments of memory, or lyrical musings, I put on a podcast, which keeps intrusive late-night thinking at bay. This podcast generally amounts to one person who doesn’t know what they’re talking about, talking to another person who doesn’t know what they’re talking about, about something I know absolutely nothing about, and this triumvirate of stupidity generally lulls me into some approximation of sleep (the first sleep)."

Just got tickets to this. Stoked for it, but if these two bands would have toured together in like 2015 my brain would have melted from excitement.

A lot of times when I'm stuck and/or sick of a design I'm working on I like to make a copy and just start making changes that I know likely won't stick. Things that are unreadable/messy. Just to try to knock things loose.

Just came across a very well designed website, but was immediately taken out of it because throughout it they're using dumb quotes where they should be using smart quotes. This is one example (top is theirs, bottom is what it should be). smartquotesforsmartpeople.com

A vertical collage of four layered elements: crumpled lavender fabric or paper (upper left), macro animal fur in tawny browns and black (upper right), a large torn-edge dusty rose painted rectangle dominating the lower portion, with a dense abstract painting in black, blue, yellow, and green overlapping it at lower right, and a circular sky photograph cropped at the bottom edge.

Had my first real need for the new #CSS holy trinity; popover, anchor positioning, and starting-style. Everyone was right, these are all so good. Nothing here that couldn't be done without them, but it's so much easier and less brittle with.

I updated the post with links to both your posts and a link to @jim-nielsen.com post. 🤦‍♂️I swear I Googled before writing this!
Update: Even though I thought I’d done an extensive search for existing posts on this, my searching didn’t turn up any posts on the topic. But knew there had to be already. And of course, there already is. I swear I know how to Google, I think? Bramus has already written about this, and more. Jim too. You should read those.
