Would you taste so good if you weren't here?
I start to think, usually three days after you
leave me, heading towards your promised
sanctuaries, where I cannot be present, that
I must transfigure myself like the night and
cascade into shadows of syrup and anxiety,
emerging always from the other side as the
same but undeniably overthrown in spirit,
which tells me all I need to know about your
unshakeable phenomena and drifting mind.

The seventeen gods
in my head, radiant; dead
and white; viciously queer;
no understood in the
slightest; not slightly
divine
sit around the low
living-room table, and
talk of anything
but scripture.

We like the warmth
of the fireplace.

They come and go,
some more absent
than not,
some worn into
their usual places.
Some trickle out as
night flows in.
But two are just
pouring their first
drink.

Where am I?
Where do I
sit?

Certainly not in
the seat by the fire.

man's warm marlboro.

Listen along, air's motion,
slowed–down, invisible
by only vision.
Ignore brain's
ingrained–deficiency.

Flow in waft–till you see with
aural hallucination.
Realize all this nation's issues are
sonic. Smoke.
see absurd–divine.
Joke.

STEP TWO

FORGET SMOKE because
SIGHT BY SOUND CAN'T EXIST.
KILL CONCEPTION.
come BACK TO
SANITY.
DON'T GET TRICKED INTO
enlightenment.

MAKE CASH.

WRITE EIGHT WORKS
OF fiction,
NOT GREATER,
DON'T CUT SHORT.
EIGHT. ARBITRARY.

you get it, after all
you sit on it, the rock precipice.
you feel its gravitational tug.

i betrayed you in not asking of it
i felt no need for your permit
i stare at you, so hurt by it

we; you, i, it
we pity you as pities i
we both submit, you and i

they slit young, weak, wrists, i watch
they bleed a bayou of blood, weeds emit, i watch
