I knew that Casey Newton was becoming ever more annoying about AI but I didn’t realise that he was properly losing his mind in the process www.programmablemutter.com/p/machine-go...
Neither future seems to be at all convincing to me, but they are most certainly convincing some people. Casey Newton and Kevin Roose are partnering with NPR to create the
"Machine Gods" podcast as part of "a bold new era of content strategy for the network." In his newsletter, Newton thanks the fates that he and his collaborator were a little too late to tech podcasting to be "beguiled" by Sam Bankman-Fried, and suggests just two paragraphs later that critics of Roose's famous shoggoth freakout were "previewing the ways in which the commentariat would continually twist itself into pretzels to deny that anything important was happening with LLMs." Indeed.

Folks may or may not know that I like to make creative adjustments to Bob Ross-style paintings, resulting in paintings like our friend Moby Duck. I cannot for the life of me figure out what to put in the forest river painting, though. Taking suggestions.

Investors, I get the feeling that the free AI money isn’t going to be around a lot longer so please give as much of it as possible to me. I need money more than OpenAI does and I promise not to use it on an AI project Instead I’ll just do more of this sort of thing

unbelievable. they really *are* using AI to create the new NZ curriculum "analysing and synthesising information from international curricula and related educational frameworks," is just another way of saying "we're turning them all into untraceable hallucinations" #NZpol #kikorangi
Too long for alt text: an OIA response from the MInistry of Education NZ showing AI being used in the curriculum creation process. The most relevvant part is: the Ministry is leveraging Al tools to enhance development processes across the curriculum as a whole, particularly by analysing and synthesising information from international curricula and related educational frameworks. It is important to note however, that Al is not used to directly author curriculum content. Instead, it supports Ministry writers by providing background research, comparative insights and thematic analysis. The ability to process and evaluate research from other jurisdictions efficiently is especially valuable as we work towards delivering a national curriculum that is internationally comparable.

"how many humans can already recognise 22,000 objects in the world" literally everyone
"Parts of machines will supersede human intelligence... Part of it is already here.
How many of us can already recognise 22,000 objects in the world... how many humans can translate 100 languages?" said Fei Fei Li, founder of World Labs, a start-up that is creating "spatial intelligence" in AI by developing humanlike processing of visual data.

tworuru.com I do a lot of art but the most notable recent piece is probably this gargantuan duck I added to a Bob Ross tutorial painting as part of what I call Project Everybob
It's a giant rubber duck in a lake with a mountain in the background all painted in the style of Bob Ross. It's called Moby Duck

This is what happens when you get AI to write your ad for a humour specialist (Also probably worth noting that $200k an hour is only $416 million a year, i.e. quite a lot less than the billionaires earn.)

I’m thinking of starting a print club, for all the art I’ve ever made (lots) and all the art I’ll make in future (ideally much more). Options for both email and real-mail. What do youse reckon? A reminder: this is the variety of stuff I make.
Whole bunch of paintings I’ve done from left to right a spaceman steering at a ring around the planet he’s standing, on a cat, a communist cat, a sunset, a tomtit wearing a top hat, Christopher Luxton in some kind of flesh nightmare, two cute kids in a portrait, Vincent Van Cow, and a skyscraper sized rubber duck floating on a lake

rereading all of Aubrey/Maturin and Post Captain is the most remarkable book - Jack and Stephen, through misunderstanding, end up chasing the same woman - matters come to a head; a duel beckons, but - a daring action; Stephen saves Jack from blood loss - and fills the cabin with 60,000 bees
too long for alt text, but essentially Stephen fills Jack's cabin with a hive of 60,000 bees that promptly begin escaping. page 387 of Post Captain by Patrick O'Brian for the interested

Folks, I can now reveal that the Trump/CoC economy has come for my job. Another job has not yet forthcome so now would be an extremely doubleplusgood time to commission yourself (or a loved one) a painting. Here is a very small selection of what I can do
A whole lot of art in a whole lot of styles. From left to right we see a realistic-ish spaceman staring at a planet, a photorealistic cat, a communist cat, a watercolour sunset, a tomtit wearing a top hat, a nightmare portrait of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, a nice portrait of two kids, a Vincent Van Cow, and a skyscraper-sized rubber duck floating in a Bob Ross lake. All artwork is by me, Josh, and I can be commissioned at tworuru.com

They will. I would be happy to help! Here is a little sampler of the - I'm being conservative here - *wildly* varied art I make. All these paintings/pictures are by me.
It's a collage of nine pictures of paintings that I've done, including a realistic space landscape, a photorealistic cat, a communist cat, a watercolour sunset, a little tomtit wearing a hat, a nightmare portrait of Prime Minister Chris Luxon, a nice portrait of two kids, a Vincent van Cow and a skyscraper-sized rubber duck floating in a lake.
