#jazzsky |Kenny Dorham, this giant of bebop—though underrated—was nonetheless a highly talented musician who played alongside some of the most prominent performers of the era. This LP features recordings of Dorham at the top of his game during a live concert held at the JazzWorkshop in SF in Nov 61.

#jazzsky | One of the masterpieces of post-bop is undoubtedly "Miles Smiles," recorded by Davis and the Second Great Quintet at CBS 30th Street Studio in New York City on October 24–25, 1966, and released in February of the following year. Hats off!

#jazzsky | The great drummer Gene Krupa recorded this album for Verve Records in 1964 with a quartet featuring tenor saxophonist Charlie Ventura, pianist John Bunch, and Nabil Totah on bass. The repertoire consists of standards and a theme composed jointly by Krupa and Ventura.

#jazzsky | "Pike's Peak" is an excellent straight-ahead album, vibraphonist Dave Peak's second recording as a leader, recorded in 1962. Pike is accompanied by bassist Herbie Lewis, drummer Walter Perkins, and Bill Evans on piano, in one of his first sessions following the death of Scott LaFaro.

#jazzsky | "Gleanings" is a compilation of material spanning 1963-1965, recorded by Coltrane during the period when he was signed to Impulse! accompanied by McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, Elvin Jones, and Roy Haynes, who appears on one track. The album was released exclusively for the Japanese market.

#jazzsky | "The Other Village Vanguard Tapes" is a double album released on the Japanese market in 1977 that compiles previously unreleased recordings from John Coltrane's residency at the NY club in November 1961. In these recordings, musicians Garvin Bushell and Ahmed Abdul-Malik join the quintet.

#jazzsky | Composed in the style of a diary during 2018 and 2019, "I Paint You" chronicles the time Finnish saxophonist Adele Sauros spent living in London. The album compiles a series of tracks, all composed and arranged by Adele Sauros, in an evocative and elegant post-bop style.

#jazzsky | "Walkin’" is a 1957 Miles Davis compilation album released by Prestige Records. It features recordings from two groups led by the trumpeter, Miles Davis All-Star Sextet and Miles Davis Quintet, made in April 1954 and originally issued on two 10-inch LPs. This is a reissue from the 1970s.

#jazzsky | This famous album was recorded during the period when Cannonball was a member of Miles Davis’s “First Great Quintet,” and it is also one of the few recordings Davis made as a sideman beginning in 1955, although the prominent role of his solos play leads one to believe it is a Davis album.

#jazzsky | In 2017, the sadly departed jaimie branch released her first solo album, "Fly or Die", which was named one of the 50 best albums of the year by NPR Music. The album marked the evolution on the East Coast of the avant-garde Chicago style that the trumpeter had been developing previously.

#jazzsky | Ronnie Foster is a funk and soul jazz organist and record producer. His albums, recorded for Blue Note Records in the 1970s, have been recognized—following the emergence of acid jazz—as ahead of their time. "Two Headed Freap" is his debut album, recorded in 1972.

#jazzsky | On May 19, 1961, Miles Davis gave a concert at Carnegie Hall in NYC, accompanied by his quintet—Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb. Hank Mobley was the saxophonist at the time. They were joined on stage by the Gil Evans Orchestra, in their first public appearance with Davis.

#jazzsky | On June 24, 1964, John Coltrane Quartet recorded a few tracks at Van Gelder’s studio that were to serve as the soundtrack for the Canadian independent film "Le chat dans le sac". Forgotten for years, the tapes were discovered and released by Impulse! on the album "Blue World" in 2019.
