Rather less angry than Chat GPT would have you believe. Also thinner on top. Tries to keep up with sprogs 1-6 and all their mini sprogs. Hopelessly devoted to the Chair of Balham FC. Takes footie pictures. Trying to get back into fencing.

I recall that even in its early days, Wikipedia was checked against the Encyclopaedia Britannica and was found to have greater coverage and fewer errors.

Yes. Surely the priority should be to disentangle the network of bias in the Wikipedia editorship? Can anyone contribute details? Something more than "there's a ton of middle aged white European men with time on their hands"? What are the barriers to entry?

I'm sure he meant what he wrote: ruder servants. Claude is altogether too civil. It's creepy. And insinuating.

As the sage Eyore put it so wisely, not knowing for sure until afterward is what makes it so interesting.

I guess a pollster would say that the poll seeks to assess what people worry about, regardless of the underlying facts. If they're genuinely worried about a misconception, shouldn't we want to know?

Surely the point of social media is not to change anyone else, but to validate ourselves? Luckily, AI now allows us to do this without inflicting our thoughts on others. So there's really no excuse whatsoever for this reply. :0)

Hmm: Myth as Paradigm. That works. But we need paradigms: how else can we understand the world?

Of course, all the stuff about branding and condoms is cover. Goodwin's real point is that we should stop foreign aid entirely and leave the world to China. Which is pretty much what we have done. I can't help wondering whether we will come to regret this in a decade or two. But I digress.

Not quite all the same things. An alert user would have spotted that this was the total cost of a twelve year program. Of course, keyboard warriors looking for easy gotchas to validate their world views tend not to be alert to this sort of "detail". A lesson for us all.

Perhaps there will be students who don't like the idea of tying our fortunes to Weidel, Melloni and le Pen?

Presumably we'd be aiming for a supermajority to reverse a recent referendum and convince the EU that we're serious?

If it's being said constantly and the government has a plan to address it, I'm not sure what the problem is here. Though I do hope Burnham's administration will do a better job of blowing its trumpet. And will include this in its manufacturing strategy. www.gov.uk/government/n...

Wasn't that exactly what the leavers had been doing? If you're saying that YOU don't make a habit of attending sporting events then: 1. I respect your choice 2. I respectfully submit that your views on the behaviour of European crowds might not survive rigorous fact checking.

After his steadfast refusal to come up with any sort of vision in opposition, the most I was hoping for was a steady hand on the tiller for this Parliament. All things considered, I think he more or less delivered that.

In the short term, yes. In the medium term, it encourages employers to invest in improving productivity (and take advantage of the support for this which has been put in place by this government). It is crazy to be subsidising low productivity labour.

Will Ross @twistedbyknaves.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
It is not obvious why, at a time when we have a serious productivity problem, we are encouraging employers to rely on subsidised labour rather than invest in improving productivity. There is a case for subsidising key sectors such as hospitality. Or we may need to pay the full cost of our pints.

That rather depends on just how glorified it is, doesn't it? I don't subscribe to the view that self awareness is some sort of magic. It emerges from a physical system which could be described in similar terms.

I have often seen this asserted on the previous generation of misinformation machines (social media). I have yet to see a convincing proof.

The USA may have had governments which were reliable in the short term, but no foreign country can be absolutely reliable in the long term. Science, defence, culture, technology, business all matter. We need to be contributing our share of all of these to our alliances.

This. Also, if we want rich people here, this needs to be the sort of place they want to live. Which means the very best museums, art and culture. What is the point of educating the next generation of movers and shakers if the place is such a hell hole that they leave at the first opportunity?

Firstly, some of the complaints arise from the perception that utilitarianism has to be about maximizing overall happiness rather than minimising worst case misery. So be careful about the grouping function. A society may well be best measured by how it treats the worst off. #WWJD ?

Well, this is excellent news! Does this mean we can look forward to some serious, good faith trust building measures for the negotiations with Hamas, demolition of the settlements in the disputed territories and an immediate cessation of fire in Gaza?
