And I truly didn’t think anything could do that, too much time having passed and too much nostalgia involved now. But this did. And, frankly, I love Tom Holland as an actor. He got so much to chew on, and let bubble beneath the surface. It was like a haze of grief, thick enough almost to touch.

So “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” may be my favorite Spider-Man film now. Just might supplant “Spider-Man 2.” Honestly, kinda shocked at how well-written it was, the threads spun and woven and never quite out-of-control. Tight. What Aunt May says, in the bedroom flashback, rivals the steady speech.

This is gonna sound dumb, but partly for me, it’s the foreknowledge that all the men will be covered up in big coats and long pants, yet somehow the women will be scantily clad: it will heighten the silliness of the designs, and probably break any dim sense of immersion.
