My next house (also while in military & also, by necessity, 100% financing) went unoccupied for 22 mo after I had to move. Never missed a pmt, and I ended up "selling" (misnomer) that as a straight transfer, no $ down, "buyer" assumed my mortgage. Set me up for my 3rd 100% financing purchase.

Two representations of my life: me at 20, and me now (66)! I can relate 😄😥

Bought my first house in 1986. I was a young, 26 year old military pilot. Needed 100% financing for the $96K house. Best rate I could get was 13.75%. Lots of repairs & some upgrades later, then I moved on orders after a few years. It sat empty 9 months & then sold for $98K. Good times.

My house (Central FL) is about 2100 sq ft, built in 2002. All my kids' friends in their school days thought we were so rich to own such a big house! It's also a zero-lot line neighborhood, so houses are stacked side by side, 10' 0" of space between (right at code minimums).

Risky. What if a stray animal, or some abrupt, loud sound spooked the mom? I was hand feeding a caged cockatoo once, when some wandering dogs startled nearby macaws. They began screeching and the cockatoo instinctively bent over & latched onto my thumb. Didn't bite clean through, but man, it hurt!

Not disputing the corporate consolidations across many industries, but there are more than 4 major airlines (per DOT definition of > $1BN revenue). Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, Allegiant, Breeze round the list out.

When my daughters were at that age 20 years ago, the Tooth Fairy was an unheard-of story to my European wife. So I was it, by default. My spin was to write a little personal, congratulatory message each time from the TF, giving each girl her very own fairy (with the same name as their middle names).

I thought I was more familiar with this than I actually am... so I looked it up. According to Google, the British gallon is approx 20% larger than a US gal. You're correct on the math(s): my cost is about $0.18/mile in the US (non Calif/Hawaii/Washington).
