Nancy K. Dillon in Concert, with Porch Cat opening

October 17, 2026

Nancy K. Dillon performs for 3RFS on Saturday, October 17, 7:30 pm, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1322 Kimball Ave, in Richland. Park in the back and enter through the basement. Tickets ($20 general, $15 for 3RFS members) can be purchased at the door or online at https://3rfs.net/civicrm/event/info/?reset=1&id=64 .

We are thrilled to present Nancy K. Dillon for our October 17 concert. A songwriter, performer, and visual artist, Nancy comes to us from Seattle. She writes compellingly, poetically, and sometimes mysteriously, finding inspiration in dreams and traveling across the landscapes of the western U.S. Her family heritage in Ireland, Scotland, Europe, and Britain provides rich inspiration and little known facts, like her father fighting in the WW2 Battle of the Bulge, and her 7th great-grand-uncle in Scotland writing a treatise called Lex Rex (“the law is king”) upon which the 2nd Amendment was based. Nancy grew up in central Oklahoma surrounded by music. With her father being a composer, professor, jazz saxophonist, and church choir director, and her mother a former vocal teacher, it is not surprise that her talent blossomed. She performed in roots-based bands and was a backing vocalist and session singer until she decided to focus on songwriting in the new millennium. Her songs explore her American roots as well as her ancestral Celtic roots.

A veteran Tumbleweed performer, she has three full length CDs and an EP, as well as singles, all available on Bandcamp. Her 2018 CD, A Game of Swans, debuted in the Top 20 of the Folk Alliance Folk Radio Chart. It was subsequently released in Europe and the UK where it received extensive air play. A fourth album Cawker City Blues, is scheduled for release this year.

Opening for Nancy is Porch Cat, a folk punk trio originally formed in Bellingham, WA, and currently located in Pasco, WA. Porch Cat is: Chan Benicki, Emily Awen, and newe…

On Saturday, September 26th, Three Rivers Folklife Society will present Tracy Grammer in concert.

TRACY GRAMMER is one of contemporary folk music’s most beloved artists, known for her pure, emotive vocals, masterful violin playing, and a guitar style that moves effortlessly between percussive drive and delicate nuance. A gifted storyteller, she brings a rare blend of vulnerability, intimacy, and hard-won insight to the stage. As one fan puts it, “With Tracy, it’s never just about the music; it’s a soul journey.”

Grammer rose to acclaim as half of the “postmodern, mythic American folk” duo Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer. From 1998–2001, the duo released three internationally celebrated, chart-topping albums featuring Carter’s mytho-poetic Americana songcraft. In 2002, they toured with Joan Baez as both featured artists and members of her band. Called “the new voice of modern folk music,” the duo was in clear ascendancy when, in July 2002, Carter suffered a fatal heart attack mid-tour. He was 49; Grammer, 34.

Determined to honor the duo’s trajectory and bring Carter’s songs—and those of other beloved writers—to wider audiences, Grammer continued touring, releasing several solo and archival recordings. In 2018, Grammer released LOW TIDE, her first album of original songs. “I didn’t see myself as a songwriter until it became the only way to resolve the unanswered questions of my life,” she says. “LOW TIDE is an album of revelations, confessions, and ultimately, healing.”

Grammer performs regularly in theaters, coffeehouses, and festivals across the United States and Canada, with additional appearances in Europe and Japan. S…

And right now, we may not have enough to make this year’s festival run smoothly.

Tumbleweed provides our performers and volunteers with a range of delicious foods all through the day on Saturday and Sunday. This year, unfortunately, our planned solution has collapsed, and we are in DESPERATE NEED of a KITCHEN MANAGER.

This will mostly include supervising simple food prep, reheating, and assuring that the Chris Mesford Hospitality Room is kept stocked.

If you would like to take on this challenge, PLEASE consider going to https://tumbleweedfest.com/support-tmf/volunteer/, filling out our volunteer form, & sending it in ASAP.

WE REALLY LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!

We can only offer Homestays to the extent that kind-hearted, generous people offer up space for people to stay in, whether a guest room, living-room-floor crash space, or a driveway or other area to pitch a tent or park an RV for the weekend. THIS YEAR, WE ARE DESPERATELY IN NEED OF 3 OR 4 MORE!

Three Rivers Folklife Society is proud to present Sofia Talvik in concert. Sofia comes originally from Sweden, lives now in Germany, and is currently on a long tour of North America. Sofia was one of our Saturday Night Concert headliners in 2023.

From the quiet forests of Sweden to the bustling streets and small-town venues across the United States, Sofia Talvik has shared her songs in 49 of the 50 U.S. states — as well as on numerous tours in Europe. But it’s not the numbers that define her; it’s the heart she pours into every note, the stories she carries, and the connections she forges with real people wherever she goes.

Join Tumbleweed family members PAULA BOGGS BAND for a show on Friday, March 27th at 6:30pm in Kennewick, at The Peacock, 910 S Columbia Center Blvd. Suite G, Kennewick, WA 99336

Formed in Seattle in 2007, Paula Boggs Band has spent nearly two decades walking the long American road — not chasing trends, but gathering stories. What began in the Pacific Northwest has grown into a national touring presence built on return invitations, resonant listening rooms, and songs that ask audiences to lean in a little closer.

The word “soulgrass” hints at what sets Paula Boggs Band apart. Their music draws from the storytelling spine of Americana, the communal lift of bluegrass, the ache of the blues, and the rhythmic undercurrent of soul. It is at once rooted and urban, reflective and unflinching. The result feels less like a fusion and more like a conversation across traditions.

Onstage, Paula Boggs Band is built for rooms where listening is an act of participation. There is space in the arrangements, intention in the interplay, and the quiet authority that comes from years spent refining craft night after night. Nearly two decades in, they remain committed to the long arc — trusting that songs, honestly written and carefully carried, will continue to find their people.

On Saturday, March 21st, Three Rivers Folklife Society will present Hank Cramer, one of our most requested performers, in concert.

Based out of Winthrop, Washington, in the heart of the North Cascades, Hank’s repertoire is rumored to include hundreds (if not thousands) of songs, covering the gamut of cowboy, nautical, Celtic (both Irish and Scots), martial, and Americana music. Whether it’s a love song about a cowboy for his horse (or is it really an allegory for his lost love?), a rousing sea shanty, a ballad of an injured knight seeking healing from a witch of the moors, or a memorial to fallen comrades, Hank brings passion and ethos to all he sings. His guitar is the perfect accompaniment to his rich bass voice.

Hank’s background covers the gamut from underground mining, Army officer and paratrooper, 9-1-1 emergency communicator, deepwater sailor, and high-country outfitter/wrangler. His love of history and desire to educate, combined with his life experiences, brings a real sense of authenticity to his musical interpretations and formal presentations. Those passions have led him to presentations such as “Northwest History in Story and Song” for Elder-Hostel, “Music Along the Oregon Trail” at the National Historic Oregon Trail Center, and founding two specialized music education programs: Sea Shanty Camp; and Cowboy Song and Poetry Camp.

His list of notable venues reads like a who’s where of the American folk music world, including: Humanities Washington; Buffalo Bill Historic Center (Cody, Wyoming); the High Desert Museum (Bend, Oregon); the National Maritime Historic Park (San Francisco); the Maritime Museum of British Columbia, the USS Constellation (Baltimore); and the Grays Harbor Historic Seaport (Aberdeen, Washington). More recently, he has been providing on-board music and history presentations to cruise ship tours of the Columbia River. And, let’s not forget our very own Tumbleweed Music Festival, at which Hank has performed for almost all of o…

The Blue Ribbon Tea Company are Bill and Kathy Kostelic, who are prolific singer/songwriters in the American Roots tradition known for distinctive vocals and powerful songwriting. They are, in the words of various reviewers, “soulful,” “powerful,” “catchy,” and “refreshing.” They have performed at numerous fine folk festivals and venues large and small (including Tumbleweed) and have produced 6 albums of mostly original music, which the late Dan Maher called “Awesome, awesome stuff.”
Bill & Kathy also enjoy playing old folk, country, and blues tunes and have performed at multiple Woody Guthrie tribute shows. Bill plays guitar, harmonica, and sometimes banjo. Kathy plays mandolin, fiddle, guitar and sometimes autoharp.

We are thrilled to present Heidi Muller & Bob Webb for our November 15th concert.

Folk duo Heidi Muller and Bob Webb cross the musical boundaries between original songs and traditional tunes, blending each other’s influences from the Pacific Northwest to the Appalachian Mountains. Their songs feature award-winning
songwriter Heidi Muller’s crystalline vocals backed by guitars, Appalachian dulcimers, mandolin, and electric cello. They have recorded four albums together in addition to Muller’s five previous solo CDs.

Described as “arguably Seattle’s most beloved folk singer/songwriter” in the 1990’s by Heritage Music Review, Muller’s career has spanned four decades in the Northwest music scene. Her song “Good Road” was the theme song of the Inland
Folk show heard on Northwest Public Radio for 30 years until 2019. Two of her songs were published in “Rise Again,” the sequel to the legendary songbook, Rise Up Singing. She toured nationally, performing at venues from coffeehouses to the
Kerrville Folk Festival before she moved back East, where she became a popular mountain dulcimer instructor and performer.

In 2003, Muller formed a duo with Bob Webb in Charleston, West Virginia. Webb is a multi-instrumentalist who has played cello and guitar since childhood, and mandolin and mountain dulcimer for over 40 years. He has worked since the 1970’s as an
accompanist in the band Stark Raven and on the road with WV artists Kate Long and Dave Haas. Stark Raven became the house band for NPR’s Mountain Stage live performance radio show, where he accompanied artists such as Odetta, Tom Paxton, Shawn Colvin, Bill Staines, Peggy Seeger, and Arlo Guthrie.

Muller and Webb now live in Joseph, OR at the foot of the Wallowa Mountains. Besides performing, they maintain an active teaching schedule and record their own and others’ music at their Mountain View Recording studio. They also host the adult
music camp, “Dulcimer Week in the Wallowas, ” held annually in July. For more about the a…

Steve and Kristi Nebel in Concert

Sat. Oct. 18, 2025, 7:30 pm
All Saints' Episcopal Church, Richland

We are thrilled to present Steve and Kristi Nebel for our October 18 concert.

Steve and Kristi Nebel (pron. knee bull) bring passion, finesse, and beauty to their audiences with their songs of social justice, knife-edge observations, stories they have picked up in their travels, and pure, simple love. They have traveled extensively, having done nine tours in UK folk clubs and festivals and toured the Midwest and east coast. They have recorded more than ten CDs, mostly of their own songs. Kristi’s solo CD, for which she was nominated “western swing female performer of the year” in 2014 is a combination of traditional western swing and Steve’s Americana songs. The Nebel’s style is informed by a wealth of experience playing their instruments and lending their voices to the other for a blend that exceeds the sum of two parts.

They are known for their working portrayals of fishermen and common people in Steve’s songwriting. “Raven Speaks” is a collaboration with Native American poet Duane Niatum. It is a commentary on global climate change using “Raven” of Native American mythology as a main character in some of the songs, and certainly in Niatum’s poetry.

Their most recent production, “Tandem,” is the most sparse of their recordings, and features only bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and their two voices.

Steve and Kristi Nebel perform for 3RFS on Saturday, October 18, 7:30 pm, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1322 Kimball Ave., in Richland. Park in the back and enter through the basement.

Tickets ($20 general, $15 for 3RFS members) can be purchased at the door or online at https://3rfs.org/concerts-2/

Thanks to a very generous donor, we were able to record this year’s Dan Maher Tribute AND the Saturday night Tumbleweed Benefit concert! Those recordings are up on our website, https://tumbleweedfest.com .

The Tribute (1 hour 25 minutes) presents many of Dan’s friends and fellow performers reminiscing about their friend and colleague, and performing songs that were favorites of Dan’s.

The Saturday concert (2 hours 45 minutes) presents The Geoducks, Deb Seymour, and William Pint and Felicia Dale. Also included is the traditional performance by the songwriter of the first place song from the Jane Titland Memorial Songwriting contest (based on the theme of this year’s festival, “Play Time”); this year it’s Patrice Webb (backed by Brad Keeler) and her song “Let’s Go Riding.”

If you liked these videos, and would like to see us record the concert next year, you may donate to us by tapping the “Tip Jar” button on the bottom of the video window. Thanks!

Three Rivers Folklife Society presents Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Arielle Silver in our September concert.

Equally inspired by Laurel Canyon and Greenwich Village, singer and songwriter Arielle Silver is a consummate storyteller whose songs are rich with imagery, empathy, and insight. Her latest 10-song album “Watershed” draws on watershed moments in woodsy and watery places like Venice Beach, the Florida coast, and the Appalachian trail. Renewing and reflective, her roots-y story-songs have crosscurrents that connect experiences, people, and places.

Born on Florida’s Gulf Coast and raised along the mid-Atlantic seaboard, Silver now lives just a traffic jam away from the Pacific Ocean in her adopted home of Los Angeles. Memories of places and times serve as touchstones through her songs, as do the troubadour music traditions of folk, country, and rock that she grew up singing with her guitar-strumming architect dad. An ethic of care runs through her music, each song ushering listeners to tune into their own relationship with both people and the more-than-human world.

Arielle will perform at 7:00pm on Saturday, September 27th, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 1322 Kimball Ave, Richland, WA 99354. Please note that this specific concert is NOT on the normal third Saturday schedule. Tickets are $20 / $15 for 3RFS members, and may be purchased at the door or online at https://3rfs.net/civicrm/event/register/?id=50.

The Three Rivers Folklife Society logo is presented with a superimposed mourning stripe, and the text: It is with deepest sadness that we report the passing of Chris Mesford, very long-time Tumbleweed and 3RFS family member, on Tuesday, July 8th. Chris was a very special woman: a mother, a long-time, dedicated teacher, a musical performer, and long-time Tumbleweed stalwart who ran the kitchen for our Hospitality service at every festival since the beginning, starting from a grill under the South Shelter in Howard Amon to running a full kitchen crew for both days in the Richland Community Center kitchen. Not to mention nearly single-handedly soliciting & collecting food donations from all sorts of farms & businesses!

Chris’s passing will leave a massive hole in the festival, and in all of our hearts. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.

A gathering of friends and family of Chris Mesford Kenoyer will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 1:00pm at Einan's at Sunset Funeral Home, 915 Bypass Hwy Building H, Richland, Washington. There will be no eulogy, just visiting and eating and remembering the joy and privilege of having known Chris. All who loved her are welcome. If you are a musician, please consider bringing your instrument(s) so that there can be music, which Chris would have loved.

Chris’s husband Tim asks that if you have any pictures of Chris that you’d like to share for a slide show at the memorial, please send them to us at tumbleweedsubmissions@gmail.com, and we’ll see that he receives them in good time.
