Boy made of ice. Boy made for ice. Boy, with his feet on the endless white, flying, flying. Boy becomes god when he flies. Boys become gods just to fall. And so he falls with a sickening crack of his bones. Boy, wingless. God turned boy turned walking corpse. Walking corpse finds its way to Tokyo.

And here we are. Standing with god/boy/corpse in the middle of the busy roads of Tokyo while his knuckles turn white around his phone. The maps opened on his phone dims, ready to switch off. He taps on the screen and brings it back to life.

If only it could return the favour.
His knee throbs along his heart. Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.

Crack.

Oikawa closes his eyes, breaths out through his nose and continues walking towards his physical therapist's clinic. He had things to do and nothing (not his knee, not his heart, not his pain) could stop him.

Hiya!! My name's Kit, I'm an illustration artist who's absolutely loved haikyuu for years. And I'm honoured to be a part of this.

Indeed, after fifteen or so minutes, Osamu walks out of the bathroom, toweling his hair dry. Suna has made himself more comfortable, sitting on the floor with his back leaning against the bedframe, idly scrolling through his phone.

"What d'ya think?" Osamu asks, squatting down and showing Suna his new hair. It's the same shade of silver he's always had, maybe just a bit darker.

"It's a mess," Suna bites back, and this time he doesn't resist before reaching out to run his hands through Osamu's hair, smoothing it down. Parting it to the left like he always does. His fingers ghost behind Osamu's ear, and for a moment, time stills.

For a moment, Osamu just remains watching him, something unreadable in his lidded eyes. And Suna jerks away like he's been stung, embarrassment coating his features as he mumbles, "Sorry."

"It looks nice?" Osamu asks, like he didn't hear Suna at all.

"...Yeah," Suna relents. "It does."

Osamu's answering smile is brighter than he expected.

The skin beneath his eyes crease as they lift with his smile, and there's a certain glow of happiness to his face that Osamu hadn't noticed before. As they're both tickled by a passing breeze, he thinks, /have I seen him before?/

"Thank you for the pleasant chat," Kita speaks up, cutting into Osamu's train of thoughts. He takes a step backwards, carrying his cat in his arms once more. "I hope I'll see more of you."

"Yeah," Osamu smiles, his hand hovering in the middle of wanting to reach and wanting to let go. He takes a step back too, crossing the border between inside and out. "See you around," he says in farewell, and they exchange a final look before they close a door to each other.

It’s…” Bokuto pauses for a moment, trying to find the words. “It’s like those astronomers deciding that the constellations weren’t official any more. Just because some old atsronomers say they aren’t real, it doesn’t stop the owl and the crow and the cat from being up there and being together! And just because me and Kuroo are graduating or whatever, doesn’t mean I won’t still be around or that I won’t still be playing volleyball and thinking of you as my teammate and my setter and my vice captain!”

He grins over at Akaashi again. “Things will change, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing!”

heya-! haikyuu was my first fandom & i still come back to it whenever i want to feel cosy - it’s kept me company over the years, even if it deluded me into thinking i could play volleyball too (spoiler: i could not!!). i still love dabbling in their world, though, and practicing some badly-aimed spikes [heart emoticon]

It's there when he looks for Kuroo and catches the small betrayals of instinct; it lingers beneath the familiar teasing and effortless confidence, the faint outline of someone already turned toward departure.

It's buried in the urge to text first and the half-second tilt of his head looking for a voice at his shoulder, only to meet the precise shape of an absence that once fit perfectly.

Time moves on anyway, stubborn and indifferent as ever, and somewhere in the long drag of the year the emptiness begins to soften at the edges, reshaped by other presences.

Yaku's care is sharp-tongued and unsparing, but solid underneath while Lev crashes into his space again and again, loud and bright and earnest, utterly impossible to ignore.

The others linger in their own familiar ways, offering company and presence without demanding that he call it need.

Kenma doesn't even notice at first when reliance quietly becomes trust, when habit deepens into fondness, when the ground continues under his feet the same way it has for years.

He learns, slowly and unwillingly, that Kuroo leaving isn't the same as being left behind. That the world after him is still a world, still warm, still inhabited, and that once a door to a friendship has been opened it doesn't seal shut so easily.

Maybe that's growing up, too, he thinks. Maybe it's simply understanding that someone can be your first home without needing to be your last.

Hello, I'm Spring! I got back into HQ after SO long when the Dumpster Battle movie came out and beat myself up every day for what I missed in that time. [Crying emoticon] Karaneko has my whole heart... [heart emoticon].

Certainly, as their third and final year of high school winds slowly to an end, this is the first of many lasts to come. He knows it is not the way Bokuto meant it when he said that, but it has struck him nevertheless, despite Kuroo being the one to impose the conditions. A last date before the Tokyo qualifiers. A last joint training camp. A last team practice in the Nekoma gym.

A last official volleyball match.

It's something they've only spoken of in hypotheticals and abstracts—even at this stage, at this point, it's still nothing more than that. But each time they have faced each other across the net, again and again, the trickle that began the day he met Bokuto has been picking up speed, slowly but surely.

Out of nowhere, distant thunder rumbles the earth, pulling Euini out of his concentration and toward the smudged, inky sky. One glance tells Euini it's bound to get darker soon, and he supposes that with the threat of rainfall he ought to get back to his lodgings with Alaira.

Just out of sight, Euini's bottle of ink wobbles against the tree trunk it'd been perched on.

Once, twice—

—and then the ink spills, all across the paper Euini had been writing upon. Ruining his morning's worth of hard work all in an instant.

When Euini sighs, it's from a deep place in his chest, colored with annoyance, apathy, and a smidge of desperation. It'd taken him four days to build up the courage and start a letter to Richeh. After all the cheerful updates he'd been getting from her about Qifrey's Atelier, he wanted to have something nice to update her on. He'd been doing that fine just a minute ago, but now that he was to start all over again...

Before the feeling can well up within him, raindrops pelt against the ground, hard and fast. He gathers his belongings and rushes back to camp, narrowly dodging puddles as they begin to pool against the grooves on the ground.

Luffy stood on the dock and stared at the clouds. The sky always felt so big this close to the water, especially right before a storm. Monstrous thunderhead puffs rolled over the waves and bridges and the bumpy trees stretching into the harbor mouth — colourful, fluffy giants hovering thousands of miles away that he could almost touch. This was why there were so many art galleries.

There were no ghosts on the marshes. The constant water level flux kept anything that didn't get caught in the mud from sticking around for too long, creeks wiggling through the paint-mix grass, brown or blue track marks depending on the tide. Here, though, on the very end of the peninsula, a hundred feet out with nothing below him but old wood and brackish water and pluff mud, Luffy felt — immortal. Invincible. Nothing could touch him, not hunger or a friend or a speeding car.

His toes hung off the edge of the dock, the flat bottoms of his Tevas keeping him from tipping into the harbor. Little waves lapped at the posts. If he jumped off, would he sink? Would the river rush in and fill the Ace-shaped hole in his chest before he forgot how to breathe?

"This is probably the worst thing that's ever happened to me," he deadpans, before he follows up with, "I need to invest in curtains."

Kageyama is flushed and breathing heavier, and he is sixteen again after a mad dash to the school gym, Hinata's breath coming out as white steam next to him.

"Fine, whatever. Loser pays!" Hinata retorts, and takes off running, even though he has no idea where the hell they're going and Kamei Arena Sendai is nowhere near Aoba-ku. Kageyama chases him, of course he does, because he would never think of doing otherwise. Chasing after the sun is a privilege, Kageyama realises.

They do not make it to the restaurant on foot, after more than a few minutes involving Kageyama dropping his phone on the pavement in the midst of mapping their way to Aoba-ku, and more than one close call with angry drivers. They screech to a halt at the exact same time, their strides perfectly in sync. Kageyama turns to the sun and Hinata is wearing the exact same smile.

Kageyama is twenty-two, and he's still learning to love.
