Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 05/10/2026She was never famous. Never changed the world in any way the world would recognize. She was a Puerto Rican woman from Boquerón who built a life in Newark and spent 30 years fighting an illness most people around her couldn't name. But her life mattered. Join me on the journey of her story 053

Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 29/09/2026If you have a story that cost you something to live through, you have a story worth telling. People are waiting to read it. People who never found the words for their own. People who need to know they're not alone. It doesn't have to be perfect. It has to be true. Dare to be like Tuta. 031

Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I just wrote my first note on Substack substack.com/profile/5534...substack.comThe Tuta Letters (@thetutaletters)There's a sentence early in TUTA that took me six months to get right. Twelve words. I rewrote it more times than I rewrote entire chapters. 010
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Author's Note - For too long, Puerto Rican and Latino families have been written about from the outside. As sociological subjects. As political symbols. As problems to be understood. TUTA tells a story from the inside. No apology. The truth of a family who loved each other fiercely & imperfectly. 011
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I showed up for my younger self writing this book. As a 6yr old, I washed work clothes by hand in the kitchen sink and didn't tell anyone. I read the silence in a house and acted accordingly. The son who said everything was fine when nothing was. I had to write it down & I did. #DaretobelikeTuta. 000
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Something unexpected happened while writing TUTA. I got closer to my mom again. Not the versions I feared growing up. The full versions. Who they were before I had language for any of it. Writing about someone you love is the longest conversation you'll ever have with them. Dare to be like Tuta. 000

Part heartfelt memoir, part writing/creating guide, this is my most personal and vulnerable work. I hope it inspires, educates, and entertains. ❤️🌹 📖 ✍️ 1931044
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Today is a hard day for me. I graduated basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood that day, family en route, when we got the news. 4yrs earlier I chose USPS over a job at the World Trade Center. Thank you to soldiers past and present. Teach our children to love, not hate. Let’s rekindle unity amongst all. 000
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 09/09/2026You were allowed to be afraid. You were allowed to be imperfect. You were allowed to love someone without fully understanding them. TUTA lets you stop apologizing for how you survived it. Dare to be like Tuta. 000
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 08/09/2026My mother, holding my sister in the nursery. She was gentle with her. She understood what this baby needed. I stood right next to them, proudly. I was a big brother now. That kind of love that shows up quiet, in how someone holds you. Dare to be like Tuta. 000
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 04/09/2026She's pregnant with me in this photo, leaning into my father at the boardwalk like she already knew everything was about to change. I look at this one differently than the others. This is the moment right before I existed. The last quiet stretch before everything got complicated. DareToBeLlikeTuta. 000
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 02/09/2026She was not a diagnosis. She had me hand-copy every word of La Isla Bonita into a notebook just to learn it. She also once held me underwater in a bathtub, convinced she was protecting me. Both things were true. TUTA won't let you forget either one. Dare to be like Tuta. 000
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 31/08/2026She had this photo laminated. Carried it and kept it safe because she loved how she looked in it. After she passed, I found it among her things, and I couldn't part with it either. Some photos aren't just pictures. They're proof of how someone saw themselves. #DaretobelikeTuta. 010
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 27/08/2026Some days writing this memoir is just... this. No answers, just trying to find the right words. Dare to be like Tuta. 010
Tuta @tutathememoir.bsky.social · 24/08/2026Before the wedding, she was just a girl in the Bronx, dressed up for a studio photo. I don't know what she was thinking that day. I wish I could ask her. The hardest part of writing this memoir. Piecing together a life from photos & memory, one frame at a time. Dare to be like Tuta. 000
