turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 08/08/2026these goddamn distance fields are gonna haunt me for the rest of my life, aren’t they (rangers FC stadium, glasgow) 000
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 02/08/2026and finally, the full end credits theme from outer wilds, which should be straight up illegal to perform in a public setting (it destroyed me for the Nth time) 1121
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 02/08/2026some of my own highlights: there was a gorgeous orchestral cover of eurydice’s “good riddance” from hades 191
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 01/08/2026thank you @cakejumper.bsky.social and @ivgorchestra.com for tonight! you guys put on a fantastic show!! 2819
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 26/07/2026making your own mochi is honestly pretty fun - just gotta remember to snap a photo before half of them get eaten D; 000
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 17/07/2026I don't know what I was smoking at the time, or why/how my supervisor signed off on it, but this was a figure that made it into my thesis report 140
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 04/07/2026attended a graphics conference for the first time! having known a lot of these names through papers and youtube videos and tweets, it’s kinda surreal to have met the real flesh-and-blood people behind all the cool research 130
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 18/06/2026So, funny story. I've seen this snippet of the CuRast paper probably 2, 3 times in a month. Added it to the pile, thinking "this'd be a cool trick to use someday". Then I clock into work Thursday morning, browse old code to rework some tests... 110
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 13/06/2026twinsies! (i didn’t have minto plush back in 2024 yet sadly) 120
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 19/04/2026Also, don't usually liveblog anime on here but *god damn* does Kamiina Botan have some drop-dead gorgeous splash screens 1226
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 19/04/2026All it took was over a month of procrastination + being bedridden with a fever, but I've finally gotten how Brian Karis' GPU MPMC queue works ... now to figure out something interesting to use it on 010
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 29/03/2026My tree is constructed top-down, i.e. starting from the root and subdividing. if a cell is fully inside/outside the surface, it's deleted, otherwise we split and recurse (see this drawing (by @mattkeeter.com) which shows the deleted cells) 100
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 29/03/2026It's the large cell that poses problems. We can't compute a vertex for it since it has no edge crossings. But it also can't be discarded without introducing cracks: it still contains a piece of the continuous isosurface (crappily drawn in purple). What do? 3/3 100
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 29/03/2026Hi friends, while implementing dual contouring, I ran into an edge case that I'm not sure how to deal with. Here's the problematic configuration: a coarse cell + 2 fine cells. There's a single (red) corner which lies inside the isosurface, and the remaining (white) corners are on the outside. 1/3 110
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 28/11/2025Btw, tip I learned the other day that would’ve saved me a ton of closing and reopening windows 030

turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 08/12/2024spent this week learning to use SIMD intrinsics with everyone's favorite fractal. I'm surprised at how the numbers turned out: between the 8-wide AVX instructions and 12 CPU threads, we can get pretty close - within 1/8x! - to the compute shader's performance 010
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 23/10/2024one cool feature of direct raytracing is that you can model full-blown lens systems - in this case, the famous Helios-44M lens used for the new Batman movie and Dune. the bokeh swirl in the background is really satisfying to watch! 031
turtlespook @turtlespook.bsky.social · 23/10/2024hi there! I'm just a regular nerd who's drifted through a few hobbies over the years - the latest being graphics and geometry. here's some screenshots from a recent project on camera simulation. point spread functions can get pretty wild! 031
