This #SocialJusticeDay, ask: Who pays the price for the AI boom? In Southwest Memphis, xAI’s massive Colossus facility is placing new demands on water and energy in a community already burdened by pollution. The AI boom must not come at the expense of environmental justice.

Days ago, pilots spotted a 5-mile oil sheen in Cook Inlet, Alaska. The source is unknown, it was observed near Hilcorp’s long-idle Spark platform (an abandoned well that hasn't produced oil or gas for decades). A reminder of what’s at stake as offshore drilling expands and safeguards are dismantled.

The ocean just hit a record 21.1°C (70°F). It’s more than a number... oceans absorb 90%+ of excess heat from greenhouse gases. Warmer seas mean stronger storms, rising seas, marine heatwaves and stressed ecosystems. El Niño adds heat, but climate change is driving the trend.

World's oceans hit highest temperature on record as El Niño grows
The record "is another clear signal of an ocean under growing stress", according to Dr Samantha Burgess from the European Copernicus climate change service.

👏 Illinois is standing up to plastic pollution, making “nurdles” officially recognized as pollution! With 36+ nurdle facilities and microplastics found in 76 of 77 waterways, Texas should follow suit. Protect our waters, not the plastics (and fossil fuels) industry. #nurdle #plasticcrisis #goodnews

Illinois law is the first in the Great Lakes region to designate industrial plastic pellets as pollution
Companies that manufacture, use or transport nurdles must report spills and will be required to develop plans to limit them in storm runoff.
