New research by Palmo Brunner and Tenzin Dorjee examines the costs of political unity in the #Tibetan diaspora. They argue that moral authority, reputational pressure, & institutional constraints can suppress dissent over independence & resistance strategies. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Bajpai warns that competing claims over the Dalai Lama’s succession could pull India into a crisis with China, turning tensions over #Tibet into a threat to border stability. indianexpress.com/article/opin... #nashequilibrium
Newspaper opinion column by Kanti Bajpai titled “India & China are at a Nash equilibrium. Will it hold—that’s the question”. The article argues that neither country can achieve its full territorial ambitions, sustaining an uneasy border status quo. It warns that rival successors to the Dalai Lama recognised by Beijing and Tibetans could leave India caught in the middle, escalating tensions and risking conflict. A highlighted passage identifies two potential disruptions: the Dalai Lama’s succession and an India–Pakistan war that draws China directly in.

#Qinghai may be China’s most restricted province for foreign travellers, but clear, current information is hard to find. David Fishman mapped its closed and permit-restricted areas himself, learning #QGIS along the way. substack.com/@feelingthes...
"I couldn’t find an up-to-date map of travel access restrictions in #Qinghai Province, so I made one myself. It was a good excuse to learn #QGIS. 😅 Hope it’s useful!

A combination of military facilities, restricted administrative zones, and other poorly documented access controls has left some chunks of Qinghai functionally closed or permit-restricted to foreign travelers. Entire counties will either be fully restricted, or allow pass-through but not overnight stays.

These restrictions have changed over time and have led to more than a few tourists, especially long-distance cyclists, finding themselves in a region they aren’t supposed to be, escorted by the PSB to the next city.

When people think of Chinese travel restrictions (they generally think of #Tibet (which is accessible on tours via a combination of the Tibet Travel Permit and other local travel permits) or maybe #Xinjiang (which actually isn’t restricted at all, except for a few border counties). But actually Qinghai is likely the most restricted province in China overall.

Qinghai basically overlaps with the ancient Tibetan kingdom of #Amdo. There are just 6m people in all of Qinghai, and nearly half of them live in the capital, #Xining, making the rest of the province about as sparsely populated as the Tibetan Autonomous Region today." David Fishman

Example: the real NYC protest ran 2–5pm. The doctored flyer said 10am–1pm. Show up hours early, find nothing, go home. No counter-narrative needed: just quietly break the logistics of assembly.
Composite image from a Graphika report showing three screenshots of Facebook posts attributed to Spamouflage-linked accounts. Each post shares altered protest flyers related to demonstrations against China’s “Ethnic Unity Law.”

* Top image: A black-and-red flyer reading “STOP FORCED ASSIMILATION” with Tibetan, English, and Chinese text, announcing a protest outside the Chinese Consulate in New York. The accompanying Facebook post incorrectly advertises the event as taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

* Bottom left: A white flyer for a San Francisco protest featuring a map of Tibet and the slogan “Global Action Needed!” The Facebook post incorrectly lists the protest time as 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

* Bottom right: A red protest poster reading “CONDEMN CHINA’S ETHNIC UNITY LAW” with raised fists. The Facebook post claims the event details are shown on the image and displays an incorrect protest time of 3:30 p.m. outside the Chinese Embassy in London.

A caption below explains that these are examples of Facebook posts from Spamouflage-linked accounts promoting protests in New York, San Francisco, and London using flyers with altered event times, apparently to mislead participants. The Graphika logo appears in the bottom-left corner.

Screenshot of a DW article section about #Tibetans in exile. A highlighted quote says that #Tibet now has a “high-tech #surveillance web” monitoring every village, monastery, and household, making it nearly impossible for average #Tibetans to reach the border. Below, a yellow area chart titled “Newly arrived Tibetans in exile” shows a steep decline from 12,093 in 1995–1999 to 81 in 2020–2025, with source noted as the Central Tibetan Administration in #Dharamsala. #Tibetan
