Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things. Here’s a blurb on what I mean:

Some thoughts:
When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge.
You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be.
Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history.
You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired.
Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.

Now I will say, if a mom's and pop closes it wont save 32 million trees from books. Most of it is for newyork bestsellers and pop fantasy books and self health books by rich ppl. But as we don't like AI use, and hope to ban it from our life, I think we should start looking for new ways to read.

An estimated 32 million trees a year vs jobs? Every change in trade comes with loss of jobs. It does not mean we should keep cow farms or keep cutting down trees just so ppl have something they are sentimental about more than a world we can breath in and animals we kill with defrosting.

To be a writer today, a superb TTRPG writer. You need to understand the fundamental colonialism and Victorianism that is inside "classic" Western European fantasy. Even if they stated not to be racist and supported all causes, they wrote from inside the imperial world. What do you do to change that?

I visited that synagogue 2 years ago...it was middle of the day and it was empty just me and my mom. The Jewish community is so small its like the only synagogue there. This makes me so sad.
