Another meeting yesterday and another change: start leave end of October Got my calculations wrong, 42wks leave had accrued. Takes restart to Aug’ 2027. Timeline just tightened considerably.

Plans have changed yet again….boss informs there is 42wks of accrued leave(33yrs in making) to take. So, the race is on, will we make it before the house vanishes in aged care costs. Stay tuned.

Wrapped up the rub-in with straight sand (local supplier can’t do mixes) Friday afternoon. Bloody Hell! At 23 I could rub a green in on my own, in Townsville, in November. Screeding the excess sand off now makes the legs scream with lactic acid. Thankfully Tom(helper) has 40yo legs, not 58.

Renovating the shed green(the Jimmy wheeler green-shines fingernails) Scarifying for 2 days and cleaning up- these 58yo legs not really up to holding back a raging bull for 2 days Easier day today. Lightly shaving the surface thatch with the “fat boy”. I’m not going to miss the dust.

Motel ready for 2nd level Gorgeous warm(24/25C) calm The payoff for 4 months of wintery showers. One week left of work.

Well, it’s official, after renovations next week, I’m off on leave for 6-8months. Have to reduce entitlements before transitioning to carer payment and then job seeker. Being a protected person keeps the house exempt from calculations(aged care costs)

NCAT decided to award family guardianship in respect to dad and his diminishing cognition. Have to become a protected person to keep home out of aged care calculations. Big changes/big challenges. Feel a bit miffed being relegated to care only-not fit to make decisions, apparently.

Virtual NCAT hearing early next month. Probably move dad into aged care and hopefully family gets guardianship. Gives us 2yrs to fund his aged care, beyond his pension, after that……not thinking until required.

Sick. My @smh @theage cartoon.
Four frames. 1. Terns on a beach. One says to another, “I feel sick.” 2. A fur seal on a beach beside lots of dead birds thinks, “I feel sick.” 3. A woman reads a series of news headline placards with “BIRD FLU JUMPS SPECIES”, “MORE HEAT WAVES, FIRES”, “NO END OF WARS”; she thinks, “I feel sick”. 4. The world, with fires and explosions everywhere, thinks, “I feel sick.”

Starting to look like a motel, well, sort of. I don’t miss looking after the bowling green that was there and, later on, the modified croquet green. 33yrs of history is all.

Back to normal Sunday routine: waiting in Maclean before heading to Yamba to return n earn bottles/cans. The new heat lamp/fan/light in dad’s ensuite has turned into a 1,2 and 3am sunrise-with exhaust note. Looking for a plan B, that involves us getting sleep.

This probably won’t come as an earth shattering revelation but dementia sucks. Caring for my 94yo dad wasn’t on my bingo card a year ago. Trying my best. Sitting here contemplating giving away work on the greens and doing care full time. NCAT hearing next month might make the point moot.

Nearly midnight having a clean run from Brisbane airport to home. Almost to Ballina. Going to miss Launceston and Tasmania in general. Looking forward to thawing out a wee bit. Back next year, all things being equal.

Two way street. My @smh cartoon.
Single frame. Title: “Two way street”. Scene: a road from foreground leading into distance. Left, a woman on a bicycle with a bag and backpack and a small child in a baby seat at the front, riding away from our viewpoint. At left, a series of roadside signs saying, “LEAVE AND I’LL MAKE YOUR LIFE HELL”; “LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO”; SHUT UP OR ELSE”; “BUT I LOVE YOU…”
On the right, driving toward us, a large truck driven by a barely visible man.

Mid-winter sod relocation and the first roots showing. Rain certainly helped and more coming tomorrow by forecast. Cutting it at 50mm was also key. Digitaria didactyla, poultry manure put down first. Drench of phosphite+aminogrow applied after transplant.

Another win with machinery! The 45yo roller(several rebirths) is back operational. This one tested the patience. Kevlar belts and a 18yo Honda motor-which is no longer supported for parts but loctite products fill the gaps.

The run of successes has ended ☹️ Roller repair of a flogged out shaft went well but after reassembling all the parts - it is not rolling as it should. Worn pulley or something misaligned. Definitely a job for a Monday brain.
