Game #17 beaten for the year! Ghost of Yotei was a good ride. Not entirely sure if I like it more or less than Tsushima. They're both that good! 1/11

We should ALL be concerned about the new EU KIDS proposal, not just folks in the EU. It is rather telling that Stop Killing Games AND the industry trade groups are on the same side for this one... youtu.be/5eVvavzp6Ic?...

Just in case people think only Playstation is the problem. No no no, it's Sony as a whole. They apparently did this with No Way Home as well I'm learning? And the only way to see it is streaming.

Welcome to IT. Someone filed a ticket saying a name was spelled wrong in the computers. I fixed it and waited the 30 minutes for it all to sync and let them know. 10 minutes later... "Um, actually it was spelled right the first time, sorry!"

So freaking mad at Sony. Don't even know if I want to buy Ghost of Yotei "Complete" to have in my physical collection, because I'm learning it's only complete after you download the DLC and patches. The box is just the base game in a new wrapper. www.pushsquare.com/news/2026/08...

What truly drives me up a wall about ads is awful placement. Like I'm in the MIDDLE of a fucking fight scene in Reacher, and Amazon cuts to an ad! ITS YOUR OWN FUCKING SHOW!! HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHERE ADS SHOULD GO??? This sorta thing is why people pirate.

I need this day to be over. Confirmed I need a new furnace and AC (~$10k), the guy who was gonna come over to help me put in some big pavers bailed for the SECOND time (completely ghosted me this time), and the car I paid to get fixed with a new battery is now *not starting again.*

Discord is such a fucking joke. This is the second time they've hit me with a "You broke the rules!" message and refused to show me WHAT caused it to be broken (likely b/c it's bullshit). It doesn't even make sense for enforcement. How can someone do better if they don't know what they did wrong?

Might be a hot take, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sony got a taste of what Konami was dealing with during MGSV's development and said they didn't want to deal with it. I've always been sympathetic to the idea that Konami wasn't wrong to want *something* to sell, but they handled it terribly.

Game #16 for the year was surprising to me. I replayed MGS4, and felt the itch to go back to earlier games that I'd never experienced, starting with the very first. Hot damn does it hold up well. Highly recommend Metal Gear. I played from the Master Collection. 1/2

Tell me you have zero taste without actually telling me. Just from CAPCOM ALONE, we've got: Resident Evil 9 Pragmata Monster Hunter Stories 3 Onimusha All of these could be GotY contenders and there are plenty of others. The issue is there's no amazing "ball and gun" games beyond GTA6.

Game #15 is in the books for 2026, and it's #Nioh3! This one took a while. Loved the demo and hard committed to it at first but ended up getting burned out after hitting walls a couple of times and put it down for a while. I overall liked it. 🔽Review Thread🔽

Been on a retro game kick lately with Genesis games after getting some chiptunes stuck in my head. Played some absolute BANGERS from my childhood like Arrow Flash, Ranger X, Streets of Rage III, and Quackshot, and they still hold up! NGL, I think a new Ranger X game would do numbers.

I love digital photography... #GhostOfYotei is incredibly pretty. Atsu is definitely a baddie too. IDK if I like her more than Jin, but the game has gotten off to a GREAT start with how organic its open world feels. It's very little unlock map points and more "oooo, what's that smoke from?"

I know this is a little long, but I thought it important to share as to WHY discs are so important for gaming. I'm lucky in that I have an un-metered fiber connection, so that DL was only like 30 minutes, but for others this could have taken HOURS and used a sizable portion of their data cap.

Game #15 for 2026 is in the books, and it's #FinalFantasy7Rebirth. I have some complex feelings on this one. What it gets right is great, but what it misses is *frustrating* to me. Most of it is in the final two chapters. More detailed comments are in the pictures attached to this post.

Aerith from FF7 Rebirth standing in a field of grass and flowers looking off into the a blue sky as the Tiny Bronco flies away with the rest of the party on it.

Text in picture: Wanna get the good out of the way first.

Graphically this game looks incredible. The environments and models are jaw dropping levels of gorgeous. Each region feels distinct and lived in. I like that it's not just empty space between story areas. I greatly enjoyed just wandering around the open areas and looking at things.

Hamauzu and Suzuki *cooked* with the soundtrack in this. I adore the original game's soundtrack. It was the first game soundtrack I actually owned as a child, and I love how they adapted so many of the old songs to the new game style, with a big shout out to the different regional battle themes. Also, Uematsu coming back for "No Promises to Keep" was awesome. He's just as good as ever, and this song has been living in my headrent free since I heard it. I'm listening to it as I type this lol...

Similarly the voice acting is top tier. I love the way the characters are portrayed, because they do feel like the characters I remember from the original. 10/10, no notes.

The narrative is solid for about 80-90% of the runtime. I like the embellishments they've made by and large and most of the changes help clean up things that didn't make a ton of sense initially (how did Aerith cross an entire OCEAN without help in the OG for example?). One exception for me is how they shoehorned in a "relationship" between Cid and Ifalna, it felt weird to me, but I can't quite put my finger on why.

Combat feels GOOD. Encounters are well designed, with bosses in particular feeling very tense and exciting to engage with. I liked that they continued to integrate memorable enemies from the OG's random encounters as mini-boss fights The synergy skills are a neat idea, but I didn't find myself using them very much. Generally speaking there was almost always a better use of my time in combat. Almost thinking they should be cut from the next game. My only real complaint (and it's nitpicky for sure) is I wish Synergy Abilities were easier to use. This would r…
