I'll be honest, I don't know if I will ever feel safe again. Even if the Dems win in 2026 and 2028, that only buys a short reprieve. Every election cycle will feel like we are fighting for our lives all over again. He will not be here forever, but the threat he created will not die easy.

It would be a shame if the people behind the shield wall held up umbrellas so that tear gas canisters fired over their heads on the front line will be bounced away. It would be a shame if protesters began constructing improvised armor vests out of duct tape, hard-backed books, and ceramic tiles.

It would be a shame if the protesters began making their signs out of quarter-inch-thick plywood to stop rubber bullets, forming a tight shield wall to prevent police from singling out and mobbing individual protesters.

To keep myself sane this year, I am turning my back yard into a little park. Decluttering, planting perennials, setting up bird and squirrel feeders. A space to go for a cup of tea when the outside world is screaming. I just need a sanctuary for my sanity. Pictures to come soon.

While I am a very political person, I find that the more I engage in political discourse, the more depressed my real life becomes. Also, I feel a growing danger to my person and property, even my freedom. While I will still engage, I do feel I need to limit my exposure for my health and well-being.

We have become so dependent on electronic payments, etc. It may be the time to go dark and get offline. Pay bills in person with cash. Use the internet for amusement, but not for business.
