But complicating matters is that Kennedy’s on-the-job efforts are only part of a larger story, which includes a steady stream of related problems, including difficult ethics questions. The New York Times reported:

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accepted $4 million in book advances and more than $270,000 in gifts over the past year from close allies who are working to advance his Make America Healthy Again agenda, according to his latest financial disclosure form.

After the shooting, Mr. Garces Perez called his wife, Elizdar, crying, to say that he was in pain after immigration agents had fired at him in the vehicle, she said in an interview in Spanish. When she got to the scene under a highway overpass in Northwest Austin, officers told her he had already been taken to a hospital, she said.

The agreement also included conditions that would permanently insulate the president, his family members, and businesses from IRS audits. Those aspects of the agreement remain in place.

It’s unclear exactly what the DOJ seeks from the appeal.

Williams’ order did not formally eliminate the settlement, since it was a purely executive-branch arrangement. But her findings of collusion and improper purpose created a factual record that could support future efforts to void the settlement

The result of all this is that the United States is losing a war to a third-rate power in the Middle East. The Russians, meanwhile, are continuing their rampage in Europe and apparently considering things so perilous that the CIA director had to fly to Moscow just to warn the Kremlin off of whatever it was thinking of doing. The Chinese are watching as Trump and Hegseth have stripped the Pacific theater of its only American aircraft carrier. In the midst of this chaos, Hegseth does chin-ups while he ponders calling all of America’s admirals and generals back to another mass meeting so he can again carp at them about fat soldiers and bearded sailors.

Alongside the DOJ, a dozen Republican attorneys general are defending USPS’s new rule. In Thursday’s hearing, Missouri Solicitor General Louis Capozzi argued the agency should be allowed to “preempt” state election laws through the new rule.

Talwani’s order does allow states to voluntarily comply with the law if they so wish, by sending mail ballot designs to USPS for approval. But she refused the red states’ request to exempt them from the order, which would have allowed USPS to refuse to deliver ballots in those states if they did not comply with the rule.

In the document, ICE says that the agency will initially provide a list of specific states it wants to acquire public voter registration files from, though the successful contractor will need to have the capability to obtain data from all 50 states. ICE is also seeking voting history data “for each federal election specified by the government, including general, primary, runoff, and special federal elections.” ICE is seeking publicly available information from each state, which each have their own rules around how it is obtained. This would include voter registration, and in many cases, voting history. Either could potentially include party affiliation—a move that experts believe will violate a right to privacy for US voters.

They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?” Trump wrote on social media.

America and the rest of the world are now witnessing a public exhibition of narcissistic rage. Trump embarked on a war for personal glory, and what he got instead was ongoing humiliation. He clearly finds it all unbearable.

Trump both fears and respects the autocrats who rule Russia, China, and North Korea, and so he dares not cross them. Instead, he is seeking to assuage the psychic injury of his loss in Iran—including the American public learning of the shameful conditions to which he has subjected U.S. forces—by kicking America’s allies, the nations he can punish without fear that they will kick him back.

Trump does not seem to comprehend that Iran has a higher pain tolerance than America. Two more deaths are not, as Trump calls them, merely a “very sad thing.” The president led America into a major shooting war. American service people are getting killed and wounded. Trump only yesterday demanded national airtime to rant about electoral conspiracy theories. Before one more member of the U.S. military is killed, he should return to the airwaves—and stand before Congress—to explain what he’s doing in Iran and how many more lives he’s willing to risk.

The press release, which did not say whether there was any evidence of actual voting by noncitizens or explain how DHS reached its finding, was circulated inside the agency ahead of Trump’s planned prime time speech in which he had promised to reveal “really big news” on election security.

It is also not clear how DHS obtained the data. While some voter registration records are publicly available, the Trump Justice Department has sued more than two dozen states across the U.S. for this type of data. All 15 judges who have ruled on those cases so far have rejected the requests as overly broad and without a clear purpose.

"All of the National Guard activations connected to the 2024 election were ordered by state governors, not by Biden. And all 12 of the states that responded to CNN’s requests for information said that none of their troops were deployed to polling locations.

Rather, the states said their Guard personnel worked behind the scenes at other locations — helping with election cybersecurity or serving as internal liaisons — or that their state Guard was not actually activated for the election after all."

Put another way, Hegseth didn’t merely push a false claim about the Obama era, he also twice pushed a very specific false claim about the Biden era about which he got literally every detail wrong.

The proclamation contained a provision authorizing Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, to reduce by up to half the tariffs for aluminum or steel producers that operate facilities in Canada or Mexico and supply U.S. makers of cars or trucks. The adjustments would be limited to quantities of aluminum or steel “equal to newly committed United States production capacity, as determined by the secretary,” the document said.

Power plants, desalination stations, oil wells, roads, bridges and other infrastructure.

They are the foundations of civilian life in Iran, and their destruction by American and Israeli forces would cause widespread suffering among the country's 93 million people - and in most cases would be considered a warm crime under international law.

Yet President Trump has repeatedly threatened to do exactly that, with the aim of sending Iran "back to the Stone Ages, where they belong," as he put in a speech on Wednesday.
