The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers was founded on September 1, 1893 despite unimaginable conditions-- wages at $2.50 a day, child labor violations, & nonexistent healthcare, pension, or paid holidays. Today, they stand strong at 50,000+ members strong!

We congratulate the nearly 4,500 members from IAM Union Local 6 in Bath, Maine who secured a historic agreement with Bath Iron Works. These shipbuilders are showing the union difference with strong wage increases, secure benefits, and greater flexibility.

Tomorrow, August 22nd, marks 81 years since flight attendants made history and formed the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA. In the last 8 decades, the union has successfully fought for workers' rights, women's rights, and aviation safety.

In 1932, civil servants were up against wage cuts, furloughs & nonexistent benefits. 94 years ago on August 18th, these conditions inspired them to form AFGE. Despite the challenges, both old & new, AFGE has never stopped fighting for federal workers. Happy Founding Day!
